Description

Process for the production of a chromium compound of naphtochrome green G which is soluble in organic solvents containing hydrogyl groups. The subject of this patent is a process for the preparation of a chromium compound of naphtochrome green G which is soluble in organic solvents containing hydrogyl groups (Schultz, color tables 1931, no. 851).

If the green chromium compound of naphtochrome green G, which is shown, for example, by conventional methods and is insoluble in water and organic solvents, is treated, advantageously with heating, with hydrochloric acid or compounds that split off hydrochloric acid, in the presence of organic compounds, one obtains after chasing away of the diluent is a dark green powder that is very soluble in lower alcohols and the color of the paint is characterized by very good lightfastness.

Example 1: 136 parts of the chromium compound of naphtochrome green G (Schultz, No. 851) are added dropwise in 600 parts of alcohol at 60 to 78 ° C with stirring within one hour with 50 parts of 33% hydrochloric acid, whereby the new compound with green color goes into solution.

By distilling off the alcohol and drying the residue in vacuo, one obtains 150 parts of a dark green powder which is soluble in ethyl alcohol to an extent of 10 percent or more and which is very lightfast green in color from cellulose ester varnishes.

Example 2: 5 parts of the chromium compound of naphtochromium green G are slurried in 40 parts of alcohol and stirred with 3.5 parts of aluminum chloride at 78 ° C. for 90 minutes; a clear, purely green solution is obtained. After the alcohol has evaporated, a dark green powder which is very readily soluble in lower alcohols etc. remains, which shows good lightfastness in cellulose ester lacquers.

Similar compounds are obtained by using iron or tin chloride in place of aluminum chloride.
