Description

B. Naphtalin, in Frage.

Process for the production of cores for the production of hollow metal castings. The invention relates to a method for the production of cores for the production of hollow metal castings.

Up to now, sand cores or steel cores for shell (gokillen) castings have been used to manufacture metallic hollow cast bodies.

After the casting has cooled, the sand cores are destroyed and cleared out; the steel cores should be pulled in the direction of their axis through suitable devices immediately after the metal flow has solidified and then put back into the mold for the next casting.

Both types of cores have major defects in their manufacture and use. The core boxes required for the production of the sand cores are expensive because they have to be painstakingly put together from individual pieces of wood. The preparation and mixing of the core sand require considerable space, labor and transport costs and are associated with undesirable dust generation. Furthermore, the cores must be fired at a higher temperature. The sand cannot reproduce the desired contours sharply enough and needs organic binding agents to be stable.

These organic binders are said to be burned, evaporated or charred by the temperature of the metal around the core. At the same time, however, the porous core from the metal bath should absorb gases released during solidification, so that air channels are arranged in the core or wax cords have to be embedded in the core in order to be able to dissipate the resulting gases. Many like to have to be made resistant to metal pressure by special inserts made of wire or the like.

By destroying the organic binding agent after casting, the core should be able to yield to the shrinkage pressure of the metal in order to avoid micro-cavities and tension in the casting. The removal of the core sand after the casting has cooled down has to be done by hand, is time-consuming and, like that, is associated with harmful dust development. The sand often forms a mechanical bond with the metal on the surface of the core, which is rough and unsightly and which forms a troublesome cast skin for further processing of the casting.

The steel cores used for shell casting must be conical or other aids must be provided if they are to be drawn after the melt flow has solidified.

Due to the temperature influences in the company, they warp and become so rough on the surface that they only have a short service life in relation to the high production costs: The biggest disadvantages of permanent cores, however, are that the time at which the cores are pulled is never precisely who can be determined, so that the metal has already shrunk onto the core and thus the shrinkage of the metal it was hindered before the core could be pulled.

The invention aims; to eliminate these disadvantages. The method consists in pouring a slip into a core mold made of plaster of paris, after a layer has been deposited on the mold walls, pouring out the excess slip by overturning the core mold and drying the hollow core, whereby it disappears from the mold wall.

This production of the cores initially eliminates the need to produce expensive core boxes, since simple plaster mold boxes can be used. Since sand is no longer used, any processing and mixing of the same falls away, and any dust development harmful to the workers' health can be avoided during the manufacture and destruction of the cores.

The cores are smooth on the outside and never connect to the metal of the weld pool, so that the cavity of the cast body is always metallically pure and smooth. Exemplary embodiments of the method according to the invention are described below.

A plaster mold is filled with slip, whereupon the slip gradually settles on the mold walls. After the time required for the hollow core to settle from the desired wall thickness, the slurry that has not been set is poured out by tipping the mold and the hollow slurry formed on the walls of the mold gradually disappears from the walls and can be more stable after air drying ,

porous and temperature-resistant hollow core. can be removed from the mold. The walls of the hollow core are completely smooth and show the desired sharp contours that can never be achieved on sand cores.

The gypsum core boxes are two or more parts and have an opening for pouring in and pouring out the Sahlieker. The slip is made from inorganic substances, as these do not gas. when the core is washed by the metal flow.

As such, for example, clay, kaolin, quartz, chamotte, barium sulfate or the like come into question, the agents with liquefaction, such. B. alkalis are processed to slip ver.

The thickness of the wall of the core depends on the size and shape of the core to be manufactured and its use with regard to the cast metal. Smaller cores for light metals, for example, only need to be very thin.

During the first they surround the metal flow, such a core prevents any stress in the casting.

Since, for example, fatty clays and kaolins shrink more than the industrial cast metals in the temperature range in question for the purpose at hand, the desired shrinkage of the cores for the metal to be cast can always be achieved by selecting the appropriate substances and adding lean agents.

With regard to their shrinkage during casting, the cores can therefore be precisely adapted to the shrinkage coefficient of the cast metal, whereby a healthy cast is achieved that is free of stresses and micro-cavities, since no resistance is opposed to the shrinking metal.

At the usual temperatures, the core material remains soft after casting and shows no signs of destruction. However, there is also the possibility of composing the slurry in such a way that the core material - especially at the temperatures of higher melting metals - sinters and the core is shattered as the metal shrinks.

The gutting is therefore extremely simple and can be done in two different ways. In the case of cores that have remained soft, all that is required is to throw the finished cast pieces into water, and the core then immediately disintegrates into mud. The sludge can then be completely removed from the cast body by shaking it in the water. If the cores are sintered and shattered, the fragments only need to be shaken out of the cast body.

In both cases, there is no development of dust even when the core is removed, so that any damage to the health of the workers is not possible.

If you want to have particularly porous cores for cast metals with high gas evolution, you can achieve such a high porosity by adding material with certain physical properties or mechanically by piercing holes.

As additives to achieve the porosity come at a relatively low tem perature gasifying materials such. B. naphthalene in question.

The gasification occurs, for example, as a result of the heating that occurs during casting. At the points where the additives are located, cavities are created after gasification. The great advantage here is that the degree of porosity can be adjusted to the respective requirements with the greatest possible accuracy by appropriately metering the additive and its grain size. Of course, the additive must not be water-soluble, as it would otherwise dissolve in the slip.

Naphthalene is very suitable for the present purpose because it is cheap, insoluble in water, and gasified at a relatively low temperature. it does not affect the properties of the clay slip in any way, ie it forms a foreign body in the structure of the core. There are of course a number of other suitable substances besides naphthalene.

The gasification of the additive can also be done when the core is dried. If the gasification is carried out by the heat of the casting material itself during casting, the proportions are expediently chosen so that the gasification suddenly occurs at the moment of casting in order to ensure a discharge for the gases that are created immediately during casting. A change in the surface in contact with the core must not occur even if the gas vent is stopped even for a moment. The gasification during casting will be easier the thinner the wall of the hollow core.

Since the hollow cores can be made from slip with very thin walls, it should therefore be possible in many cases to gasify the additive during casting itself.

The required large parosity can be achieved mechanically by poking a large number of holes that go completely through the core into the finished, cast hollow core in the tough state and the diameter of which is so small; that the metal cast around the core cannot enter them.

These holes then form the feeder channels for the gases to the discharge channel forming the cavity inside the core. Since you can arrange a particularly large number of holes at the points of the hollow core where a particularly good discharge of the gases is required, you always have the distribution of the holes over the entire hollow core in your hand and can also test the more complicated cores in their porosity adapt the requirements to be met at all points.

The production of the holes is possible in many ways and, if it is done by machine, on an economical basis, since one can machine 10,000 holes per minute with ease.

An embodiment of the in addition to the method also the subject of the inven tion forming device for performing the method is shown schematically in the accompanying drawing; 1 shows a longitudinal section through a device along line A-B in FIG. 2, FIG. 2 shows a longitudinal section along line C-D in FIG.

The device has a housing designed as a handle approximately in which a rotating shaft b is arranged, which forms either the end of a flexible shaft or the end of a motor shaft, the motor of which is arranged in the upper part of the housing a, not shown. The shaft b carries at the end a reinforced shaft piece c, which is provided with a curved groove d, which for example has a pitch of 8 to 10 mm.

In the groove d engages with a guide pin e a slider fine, which carries a needle holder g at the lower end. On the needle holder g, a number of needles h is arranged, which are in the highest position of the slide just retracted into the housing a and protrude in the lowest Stel ment by the measure of the slope of the groove d from the housing a. The shaft b and the slide valve f are guided in bearings i indicated schematically.

The rotating movement of the shaft b and the cam drum c is transmitted through the cam groove d and the guide pin e to the slide f as a reciprocating motion, so that the at the end of the slide f in the needle carrier < I> g seated needles h can pierce holes as soon as the device is drawn over the surface of the kernels by hand.

The handle can be designed, for example, in the form of known hair clippers. Since 2000 revolutions per minute, that is to say 2000 strokes of the tine carrier, are easily possible with such apparatus, 10,000 holes per minute can be Herge with five tines in the carrier. Of course, this number can be increased at will; since the tine carrier can hold any number of tines.

The thickness of the holes to be made in the hollow cores can be about 0.1 to 0.2 mm and has the most advantageous thickness with an average of 0.15 mm. This thickness of the holes guarantees that the metal cast around the core cannot enter them.
