Description

Atmnngspatrone.

Breathing cartridge. Breathing cartridges, which are charged with caustic alkalis to bind carbon dioxide and water vapor, are often used to purify the breathing air. As a result of the easy deliquescence of the caustic alkalis, these cartridges tend to form lye, which collects on the bottom of the cartridge and often gets into the breathing apparatus, where it naturally causes undesirable damage.

To remedy this drawback, it has already been proposed to mix the caustic alkali grains with porous absorbable substances such as pumice gravel, diatomite or bodies of blotting paper or to arrange layers of these porous absorbent bodies on the bottom of the cartridge below the caustic soda. A pipe socket which protrudes into the lower part of the cartridge in the shape of a shaft has also been used to hold back the lye.

Mixing the chemicals with porous absorbable substances, however, proves to be uneconomical because lye occurs only in the lower part of the cartridge, so the absorbent bodies in the upper part are not or only slightly stressed. The arrangement of porous, absorbent layers in the lower part of the cartridge has the disadvantage that when the cartridge is heavily used, lye could still drip onto the floor, which could overflow over the edge of a short pipe socket if the cartridge were inclined at an incline.

The invention now relates to a breathing cartridge with a lye trap, by means of which the inconveniences mentioned are to be eliminated.

The caustic trap consists of a partially soldered ring placed on the lower connection piece, which prevents caustic solution from flowing into the connection nozzle when the filter is heavily used, and which is provided with some supports for attaching a cap and a sieve funnel, which protects the lateral Durchgangsöff openings between the ring b and the cap e against the penetration of the surrounding porous absorbent mass.

In the drawing, the breathing cartridge according to the invention is shown, for example, in a vertical section. A denotes the connection piece, b the ring, c the cap, d the sieve funnel and e the porous absorbent material.
