Hydraulic installation with device for the evacuation of floating materials accumulated in the openings intended for the passage of the shut-off members of said installation. In hydraulic installations such as dams, the floating materials passing through the grids tend to accumulate in the openings intended for the passage of the obturation members such as cofferdams or valves. It follows that special devices must be provided for extracting the materials thus accumulated, if it is desired to ensure the functioning of the closure members. The devices provided to date for this purpose are mechanical and operate in the same way as devices for cleaning grates.
As a result, they are relatively expensive to install.
The present invention relates to a hydraulic installation with a device making it possible to avoid the installation of special cleaning devices, by the fact that this device is constituted by a communication between the upper part of the openings of the tines to the passage of the bodies of 'closure, and an evacuation channel, in order to pass the floating materials arriving in the aforementioned openings, in the eva cuation channel.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, schematically an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section; fig. 2 a cross section along the line II-II of FIG. 1.
The drawing shows the grid 10 of a bar rage 11 with the channel 12 directing the water towards the turbines. The valves (not shown in the drawing) which are normally maintained above the water level., Pass through openings 13 of the dam 11 to close the channel 12. An evacuation channel 14 is provided in the upper part of the dam for the evacuation of materials removed from the grid by suitable devices. Between the channel 14 and the openings 13, in the upper part of the latter, there are openings 15, the lower edge 16 of which is below the lowest level, B, provided for the dam.
Small valves 17 are provided to close the openings 15 or to regulate the level of water flow from the openings 13 into the channel 14.
The operation of this device is as follows: The floating materials of small dimensions passing through the grid tend to follow the upper wall of the channel 12. When they arrive opposite the openings 13 for the valves, they engage therein. and accumulate in their upper part in such quantities as to prevent the normal operation of the valves.
By virtue of the openings 15 establishing communication with the discharge channel 14 and the valves 17, it is possible periodically to cause the discharge of the material accumulated in the openings 13 into the channel 14 by lowering the valves below the level upstream of the channel. grid 10. All the materials in the openings 13 are then entrained by the current in the channel 14, without it being necessary to provide a special device for this cleaning.
If the water flow is sufficient, provision can be made to leave the communication between the openings 13 and the channel 14 open continuously. The cleaning is done in this case automatically.
One could also provide for the case where the openings 15 are not closed by particular valves, a single valve being provided to close the discharge channel 14 at at least one of its ends. In this case the same water level is established in the openings 13 and the channel 14 and the floating materials entering through the openings 13 are distributed over the liquid surface of the channel 14 and the openings 13. By periodically opening the valve of the channel. 14, evacuation of all the accumulated materials is caused. A valve could also be provided at each end of channel 14.
It is also possible to cause the openings 13 to emerge in the bottom of the discharge channel 14. A single communication opening 15 could be provided between the openings 13 and the channel 14, or one or more for each opening 13, for example two. located at the side ends of each opening 13.
