Description
Sewage sludge fertilizer and process for its manufacture. The present invention relates to a sewage sludge fertilizer and a method for its production.
It has long been recognized that sewage sludge contains excellent soil nutrients. For this reason, many attempts have been made to use sewage sludge for fertilization purposes.
If, however, the sewage sludge has not yet been able to be introduced as a fertilizer in larger quantities, this is due in particular to the fact that it is very difficult to dry the highly water-containing sewage sludge, up to 80%. However, it is possible to use filter presses to convert the sewage sludge into a consistency that is necessary for subsequent drying and grinding.
Such a stiffening of the sludge by means of filters would, however, be extremely expensive and would make the fertilizer obtained in this way more expensive until it was practically unsaleable.
For this reason, attempts have also been made to mix the very thin sewage sludge with peat waste and to convert it into a more direct consistency in this simpler and cheaper way. to dry out.
However, such fertilizers are not to be regarded as full, because on the one hand they contain relatively little sewage sludge as a building material and on the other hand because the peat waste used as a carrier for the sewage sludge contains almost no soil nutrients.
All these disadvantages are now intended to be eliminated by the invention. For this purpose, according to the invention, the sewage sludge coming from the digestion chamber is spread over drying beds and exposed to the weather until its water content is reduced to less than 60% through evaporation,
after which the stiffened Klärscl-amm is pressed into brick-like cakes and the press cakes produced in this way are further dried until a brittle structure occurs, whereupon the cakes are ground to powder.
An implementation example of the process is explained below.
until its water content is reduced to less than 60% through evaporation. The sewage sludge made stiffer in this way is then pressed into brick-like cakes by means of screw presses such as those used in brick production. The cakes produced in this way are then laid out in weatherproof drying racks for about fourteen days to three weeks until the cakes have become brittle.
Here the hardened cakes are finely ground using a hammer mill so that the seedlings contained in the sewage sludge are mechanically destroyed. Additional soil nutrients such as phosphorites, nitrogen, potash salts, etc. can be added to the sewage sludge powder obtained in this way.
In this way you get a very cheap fertilizer of very high quality. In addition, it is also possible in this way to dispose of the sewage sludge that falls in large quantities in many places and is otherwise unusable in an economical way.
