Description

G. E. I kann z.

Fig. 2 zeigt ein weiteres Ausführungs- bei6piel.

In Fig. 2 betrifft dies z. B.

Man kann<I>z. B. A,</I> als hochohmigen Wi derstand ausführen und A, als Photozelle.

Method and device for displaying changes in state by means of an electrical device. The present method is used for example to operate any signal or command devices by very small electrical currents or current changes that z. This can arise, for example, from changes in conductivity in photocells or in ionization chambers.

An extremely small electrical current can be operated by a signaling device or command device by amplifying it with electron tubes. or by feeding an electrometer, the pointer of which actuates a contact, through the voltage drop that arises from this small current at a very high-resistance resistor. All of these facilities are relatively complicated and expensive.

It has therefore already been proposed to convert the currents into a signal by using them to ignite an independent gas discharge G of this type, in which the burning voltage u "is lower than that for initiating the charge carrier as a result of the change in the electrical field caused by the charge carriers independent gas discharge necessary ignition voltage u +.

In the following, such a discharge, gas discharge of the first type, abbreviated to G.E.I. When. G. E. I can e.g. B. a glow or arc discharge: serve. Experience has shown that a minimum current Z + is necessary for their ignition, which is often greater than the available current to be measured.

So that the ignition current i + can nevertheless arise, it is known that the small current i creates a capacitance C during the time t with the charge
EMI0001.0020
to charge and thus to the tension
EMI0001.0022
bring to. A part of this charge e of the capacitance C flows off when a gas discharge is ignited until the burning voltage u "is reached. The resulting current surge
EMI0002.0003
can be used to trigger further signals.

Experience shows that this method does not work either. it is possible to use extremely small currents i to ignite a gas discharge, since an extremely small current flows through the gas discharge path before the actual ignition voltage u + of a G.E.I is reached. Such discharges are referred to below as G. E. II. The capacitance C can therefore never be charged via a voltage u that is significantly higher than the burning voltage u "of the gas discharge path G.

A first embodiment of a device for carrying out the method according to the invention, which enables a higher charging of the capacity mentioned, is shown in principle in FIG. The gas discharge path G. = is only now and then suddenly connected to the capacitance Cl by the switch S in such a way that a G. E. I can arise from the additional voltage du ".

Only if the capacity C, at the moment S is switched to position 2, has a voltage u, which, together with the voltages u "and du, is higher than the ignition voltage u2 + for a GE I in G, the same ignites. The resulting from the ignition with the subsequent collapse of the voltage u1 to the extinguishing voltage of the GE I in G2 current surge i "can z.

   B. trigger any signals via the transformer Tr.

If instead of the changeover switch S only an obvious circuit breaker were used, the entire line from G2 to S would have to be highly insulated and low-capacitance, so that the line through the small current i via a GE 1I in G2 would have to be at a suitable voltage of of size 2c "would be charged. In addition, by using a switch S it is possible to select a suitable voltage u".

The switch S can be operated automatically. However, the voltage <I> du "</I> can also be switched on automatically to the voltage uo at suitable time intervals by means of a breakover oscillation.

The unit A1 is provided so that the capacity Cl is not already charged to such a high voltage u by a current that falls below a certain limit that the glow lamp G. = ignites. For this purpose z. B. a high resistance was used, or a unit in which the applied voltage u, only above half a certain, through the same flowing current i assumes large values, that is, a device operating with current saturation. For this purpose z.

   B. a glow electrode tube, photocell or ionization chamber can be used. This use is advantageous if a current i * that exceeds an upper limit is to be signaled by choosing the photocell or ionization chamber so that the current saturation at i * is as complete as possible. A smaller current then does not produce a large voltage u ,, but the current which is equal to or greater than i * does.

As a result of the gas discharge path G2 with. the ignition voltage u2 + therefore only generates a current surge if i is at least as large as i *.

Fig. 2 shows a further exemplary embodiment. In this exemplary embodiment, a significantly larger current io flows than in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1.

Here, too, the capacitance C i is charged by the current i. If the voltage u2 <I> = </I> uo -i- duo <I> - </I> u, is greater than the ignition voltage u2 + the GE I in G2, this is caused by the charge e = u, C @ ignited when the switch S2 is closed.

As a result, the voltage across G2 falls to the running voltage u2 ", and the voltage across the gas discharge path G1 increases. The same now also ignites when the voltage u" -I- <I> A% </I> is higher than the sum formed from the voltage drop at R, the operating voltage u, 2 'at G2 and the ignition voltage u, + of a GE

I in G ,, or because periodic voltage changes due to the ignition of G2. arise at G1, which cause an ignition. can.

The two gas discharge paths G1 and G2 can be placed in a common vessel, which basically means a three-electrode tube with a control grid. This arrangement not only allows the Vorrich device to be simplified, but it also allows new results to be achieved, since then z. B. the ignition of G2 can already be done by the ions released by G1.

With such an arrangement it is then easily possible to design it in such a way that after the ignition of a G.E.I between the central and one of the outer electrodes, a direct discharge between the two outer electrodes, between which the voltage w1 + u ;; lies, can arise. As a result, the difference between the rest voltage ml -f- m2 and the operating voltage u1 "-i- u," of the gas discharge is greatly increased, and a much greater power is obtained for the relay R.

As the electrodes penetrate one another with an arrangement in which the two gas discharge paths work in the same vessel, it is possible to get by with a lower ignition energy for a G.E.I.

The arrangement also allows the very substantial Verklei reduction of the isolation points that are in the open air with small currents. It is possible to place the capacity Cl and the unit Al, which is used to divert too small currents, into the vessel of the gas discharge paths or to build it together directly. In this way, it is possible to reduce the number of surfaces in the open atmosphere that have to be designed with the best possible insulation. In Fig. 2 this relates, for. B.

, the four surface isolation points at G1, G2, Cl and Al, which can be reduced to a single one by assembling G1 and G2 and by incorporating Cl and Al.

By making the isolation points smaller, safe control is made possible by extremely small currents, such as those that occur in photo cells or in ionization chambers, if this isolation point can be made sufficiently good. This causes difficulties, since the glass or porcelain-like material necessary for the hermetic conclusion can attach electrically conductive surface layers, since a water skin forms.

This can be avoided by covering the surface at least partially with a waterproof layer with high surface resistance after this water layer has been removed. becomes.

In order to avoid the formation of condensation on this layer, it can be warmed up slightly. In order to have to use as little heat energy as possible, it is advantageous to use the heating resistor, e.g. B. to place a heating coil directly in or under this surface layer.

F'ig. 3 shows a third exemplary embodiment. The two units Al and Az acting as voltage dividers divide the voltage wo in the ratio of the conductance values of the two units A and AZ. As a result, the capacitances C1 and C2 are charged to the voltages u1 and u2.

If the two leakage resistors Al and Az are high-resistance, and the two capacities Cl and Cz and the voltage J% is not too large, then the quiescent current or the capacitive current surge when switching on Au. the relay R is not tightened.

The voltage u increases when the voltage Auo is switched on for the first time
EMI0003.0077
This additional voltage Aue decreases at different rates over time, depending on the bleeder resistances A and AZ used and the capacitances Cl and C2 used. However, it is sufficient if the rest voltage u2 is sufficiently large to ignite the gas discharge path G. =, which then also leads to an ignition of the gas discharge path G.

This increases the current i. considerably and actuates relay R.

The two units A, and A_ can, for. B. high resistance, photocells or ionization chambers. A gas discharge is ignited and the relay R is activated, depending on the ratio of the conductance values of units A and A. The device can therefore serve to display such changes in the aggregates A1 and A., which change their voltage characteristics.

One can <I> e.g. B. A, </I> run as a high resistance resistor and A, as a photocell. If the photocell is now illuminated, its internal resistance drops and the voltage u becomes smaller. If the switch S_ is switched on, a gas discharge ignites and the relay R responds.

If you swap the photocell and the resistor in the circuit, the arrangement can be dimensioned so that the relay R responds when the photocell is darkened. You can also use two photo cells, both z. B. be illuminated by the same light source. An alarm is given if the light beam to the photocell A is weakened. This circuit has the advantage that the voltage distribution within a large range can be independent of intensity fluctuations in the illumination source.

If you choose a high resistance for A, and an ionization chamber, i.e. two electrodes, between which gas is made conductive, an alarm is generated when the ionization decreases or when the flow of ions in the ionization chamber is shielded . In the first case, the device can be used as an X-ray dosimeter or to display the chemical composition of a gas or the number of molecules in cm ', that is to say the gas pressure.

In the second case, it can be used to trigger an alarm when a part moved between the electrodes of the ionization chamber has reached a certain position.

The flow of ions can also be shielded by larger floating particles such as dust, smoke or molecular complexes brought into the ionization chamber. It is therefore possible to use the device described to build a fire alarm that is extremely sensitive to combustion gases.

The high-resistance resistor A can be replaced by a second ionization chamber through which a gas flows which does not contain the impurity to be displayed, so that the device acts like the compensation circuit for photocells described above.
