Gluing machine for films. The present invention relates to a film splicer, comprising the members necessary to maintain in a strictly correct relative position the two ends of a film to be glued, so that once the gluing has been carried out, the alignment and the position of the perforations are absolutely exact. This splicer also has, like other constructions already known, members for automatically cutting, placing in position on a gluing support and pressing against each other during gluing, the two ends to be glued.
In most of the known constructions, the support members of the two parts of film to be glued are mounted in an oscillating manner on a common axis and each comprise, on their underside, a knife cooperating with a fixed part of the gluer, for cutting the ends of the film parts when they are brought into the bonding position.
To obtain a clean connection of the two film parts, it is essential that the two ends, which are superimposed on the bonding, are cut without burrs. However, the known devices all include fixed knives and it is clear that over time these wear out and, consequently, no longer cut the film cleanly.
The object of the present invention avoids the aforementioned drawbacks, by the fact that each oscillating support comprises a knife subjected to the action of at least one spring and acts in the manner of a scissor blade, in cooperation with a fixed cutting part against which it is resiliently pressed.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevation thereof, the left half being cut along the line I-I of FIG. 2; Fig. 2 is a plan view, with parts broken away; Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views, FIG. 4 being a section along the line IV-IV of FIG. 3. The splicer comprises a frame 1, with an axis 2 on which oscillate two supports 3 and 3a intended to retain in correct relative position, during gluing, the two film parts.
Each support comprises the protrusions, marks 4 intended to penetrate into the perforations of the parts of the film, as well as a plate 5 that folds back on it to immobilize the film. A locking device f3 re holds, on the one hand, the support in the bonding position and, on the other hand, the plate :) set re (@ on each support.
Between the two supports 3 and 3tr, the frame 1 comprises a fixed knife 7, the upper face 8 of which serves as a support for the two ends of the film during bonding.
On the underside of each support. 3 and 3a, is placed a knife 9 ('fi ,, -. 3 and 4') articulated in 10 and freely repainted in po, extreme itiott by two via 11 crossing with clearance of the corresponding openings. L n spring; 1? tends to rotate the knife towards the middle of the device, i.e. against the fixed knife 7.
The position of the knife 9 is. adjustable with respect to the fixed knife 7 on the support or 3a. This adjustment is obtained by means of a socket 14 slightly higher than the thickness of the. blade 9. This bush is disposed with play on the axis 10 and it serves as a bearing for the blade 9 which rotates freely on it. The adjustment is obtained by putting the blade 9 in the correct position with respect to the knife 7 and by tightening the screw 15, the rod of which constitutes the axis 10 and which fixes the sleeve 14 in position on the support 3 or 3a.
The same result could be obtained by providing a bearing consisting of a bush placed without play, but eccentrically on the axis 10.
The operation of the splicer is as follows: First, a part of the film is fixed on one of the supports, for example 3a, by clamping it by means of the plate 5a, the end of the film resting on the fixed knife 7 By lowering the other support 3, the knife 9 slices the part of the film protruding from the corresponding edge of the fixed knife 7.
The support 3a containing the film, the end of which has been cut, is raised, and the other part of the film is fixed on the support 3. By lowering the support 3 (r, the end of the rope protruding from the edge of the stationary knife 7. so that the two ends of the sliced line overlap .on the lower face 8 of the stationary knife.
After coating the end of the film held by the support 3 with glue, the gluing is carried out by bringing the support 3a. in the bonding position shown in the drawing. The pi-csion springs 13 of the plate 5a are intended to clamp against each other the film ends during. collage.
