Process for the preparation of a pigment dye. In the German patent specification No. 491999 a method for the preparation of water-insoluble azo dyes is described, which consists in the fact that the diazo compound of 2,4,5-trichloroaniline with the arylides of 2,3-Oxyna.phthoesäure alone or on one (@rundlage couples.
It has now been found that a particularly valuable red pigment is obtained if the diazo compound of 2,4,5-trichloroaniline is coupled with 1- (2 ', 3'-oxynapbthoylamino) -2-methylbenzene.
To prepare the dye, a solution or suspension of 1- (2 ', 3' oxynaphthoylamino) -2-methylbenzene is combined with the diazo solution of 2,4,5-trichloroaniline, as can be obtained, for example, by diazotizing the base in formic acid or acetic acid or sulfuric acid. Because of the decomposability of the diazo compound, it is advisable to couple in an acidic medium. The mineral acid originating from the diazo solution can be wholly or partially blunted by acid-binding agents such as the salts of organic acids in order to accelerate the formation of the dye.
It is advantageous to emulsify or emulsify in the preparation of the dye. Also use dispersing agent.
The new dye is a red powder that is very difficult to dissolve in oil, alcohol and common paint solvents. It stands out from the well-known products by its great clarity and color strength. It is very lightfast and very sparingly soluble in oil, alcohol and the usual paint solvents.
Because of its good properties, it is particularly suitable for use in oil paints and graphic prints, for coloring nitrocellulose paints where good overspray fastness is required, and for the preparation of lime, linen and wallpaper paints.
