Description
A method of decorating a metal dial. The object of the present invention is a method of decorating a metal dial, characterized in that by grinding the dial driven by a slow rotational movement, a curvilinear streak is produced on at least part of the visible surface. of the dial, that the effect of the curvilinear streaking is attenuated by brushing with a fine bristle brush filled with abrasive and that at least the surface thus treated is covered with a protective substance.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, two dials decorated by the process forming the subject of the invention.
The round watch face shown in fig. 1 has a curvilinear radiated stripe over its entire upper surface or visible surface - the decorative effect of which is reflected in a very light flamed reflection, the luster of which does not adversely affect the reading of the hour mark.
To obtain it, the procedure is as follows: a thin metal disc constituting the blank - of the dial, for example a brass disc, is slowly rotated on its axis, and its visible surface is subjected to grinding by means. of one. cork rotating disc. coated with abrasive.
This operation produces, in the case of FIG. 1, a curvilinear radiated streak resulting in a very intense flamed reflection. The striped surface is then brushed with a very bristle brush. fine immersed in an abrasive paste, for example in an aqueous stone paste, from the Levant. The streaking is thus attenuated, which has the effect of reducing the flamed reflection to an intensity which cannot adversely affect the precision of the reading of the hour circle.
The surface thus treated is then covered with a coating or a galvanic deposit such as copper, silver, nickel. The attenuated flamed reflection persists on the metallic deposit.
The dial shown in fig. 2 has a curved peripheral zone which, on its own, is ridged by grinding. Before the striation of this peripheral zone, the entire surface can be subjected to rectilinear brushing with a graining brush,
which has the effect of making the central part of the visible surface more matt than the striated peripheral zone.
