Description

Zeit be kannt.

Process for the production of highly elastic molded structures from polyvinyl chloride. The manufacture of threads, tapes, hoses and the like from polyvinyl chloride / plasticizer mixtures by injection molding or pressing has been known for a long time. However, these products have the disadvantage of poor elasticity and great permanent elongation.

It has now been found that the elastic properties of injection-molded or pressed structures, such as threads, tapes or thin-walled hoses, made from a suitable Pmlyvinylchlorid / plasticizer mixture, can be largely improved if the structures are stretched while they are warm. Due to the stretching, the permanent elongation is significantly reduced.

The stretching operation can now be carried out at various stages of manufacture, either immediately when the nozzle is left, using the heat required for plastic deformation, or switched on later as a special operation. The stretching of the polyvinyl chloride material can be carried out in air or in an easily controllable liquid bath.

Substances which have proven to be advantageous as bath fluids are those which cause the polyvinyl chloride strand to swell slightly, such as nitrobenzene, quinoline, gresol, tetralin, tricryl phosphate, dibenzyl ether.

Depending on the degree of polymerization of the polyvinyl chloride and the type of plasticizer, the plasticizer content can vary between 40 and 60%.

In addition to pure high-polymer vinyl chloride, mixed polymers can also be used in whole or in part.

Example: 55 parts of high molecular weight polyvinyl chloride and 45 parts of dibutyl phthalate are mixed well and gelatinized by heating to around 170 C for 30 minutes. The gelled material is then poured into a mold with a nozzle of 2 mm fö. The temperature of the die is 170 C. The temperature of the nozzle is approx. 200 C kept constant.

After the filled material has assumed the temperature of the mold, the polyvinyl chloride material is pressed together with the nozzle closed with strong pressure and de-aerated by releasing the pressure. After opening the nozzle, a fine, clear thread flows under slight pressure. This is pulled out with careful stretching from about 2.5 mm Q) to about 1.5 mm O, cooled with water and wound up.

In an aftertreatment, the thread is pulled through a bath of nitrobenzene that has been heated to around 100 and, after brief air cooling, is dried under tension. The result is a highly elastic thread with about 1.3 mm fo.
