Description
Screw connection on electrodes of electrolysers. The connection of the electrodes in bi-polar electrolysers is accomplished by screwing, riveting or welding. During the last two processes mentioned, the material is stretched! cause, which means an increased risk of hydrogen brittleness, this is only the case with the screw connection if the screw connections are stressed beyond the flow limit. Experience shows that this danger usually exists with screw connections, since the screws must be tightened firmly in order to ensure a good electrical connection.
According to the invention, the above-mentioned disadvantage of this screw connection is avoided in that a continuous screw with a tapered shaft is used, which acts as an elastic member. This means that the electrodes can be reliably and permanently pressed on without overstressing the material. Fig. 1 of the accompanying schematic drawing shows in section a conventional execution of a screw connection, where 1 the anode, 2 the partition, $ the cathode, 4 the diaphragms and 5 means a screw connection.
The latter consists of two screws 7 screwed into a sleeve 6 on both sides.
2 shows an embodiment of the invention with the through screw B. The tapered shaft 9, which is subject to the highest stress, is shielded from the electrolyte by the sleeve 6 in order to avoid the risk of hydrogen brittleness.
