D'habitude, la réduction progressive du diamètre du manchon1 commenceà l'extré mité du manchon opposéeà celle présentant la bride et progresse vers celle-ci, mais elle peut aussi commencerà peu près au milieu du manchon et avancer progressivement, de chaque côté de cette zone centrale; l'écoule ment du tuyau vers la. rondelle est limité par cette dernière comme cela a. été décrit plus haut, tandis. que l'écoulement dans l'autre sens est permis par l'extrémité du manchon, qui est ouverte;
Comme on le voit le mieux dans la fig. 5, mais aussi dans les fig. 1 à 4, la pièce infé rieure, 2, peut présenter des rainures 14 etlà disposées de façon que la bride7 et la ron delleà (qui, pendant l'assemblage, peut pas ser sur la pièce intérieure, jusqu'à l'épaule ment6) soient forcées par le resserrement du manchon1 d'entrer dans ce-s rainures;
Comme on le voit dans la fig. 5 et aussi- dans la fig. 6, on peut disposer l'extrémité du tuyau en enlevant le revêtement extérieur de caoutchouc jusqu'à la tresse10, de façon à découvrir cette dernière;
Assembly consisting of a flexible pipe and connection elements. The object of the invention is an assembly consisting of a flexible pipe and connecting elements, in which the flexible pipe can be made of rubber or of a sinterable material.
The assembly according to the invention comprises an interior part introduced into the end of the pipe and a sleeve fitted to the end of this pipe; it is characterized by a deformable metallic element dis posé inside the sleeve and against which the end of the pipe can abut, this defarmaible element being pressed against a shoulder of the.
inner part which holds it against the end of the pipe, itself clamped between the sleeve -and the inner part, the- all arranged so that by reducing the diameter of the sleeve, the pipe knows pressed on the inner part and the deformable element is wedged between the latter and the inside of the sleeve by pressing on the end of the sleeve, so as to form a tight seal.
As is known, the rubber is to roughly incompressible. It follows that during the progressive contraction of the sleeve. the rubber is forced to flow longitudinally and this flow results in a deformation of the deformable element (generally a washer) which, as a result of its deformation and the reduction of the diameter of the sleeve, can be pressed strongly against the inner wall of the sleeve and thus achieve a tight seal.
The deformable element does not only allow the eco-expansion of the rubber, but it can also adjust it so that, during the progressive contraction of the sleeve, the rubber is pressed against the outer face of the inner part, and against the inner face of the sleeve with a pressure which depends on the resistance of this deformable element, so that intimate contact is established with these faces.
In order to increase the efficiency of the assembly even more, the internal part can be provided with a bead which forms a bulge in the pipe opposite a stop of the sleeve, to make the assembly even more sure.
Preferably, the inner part has an enlarged part which constitutes a stopper and which, when the inner part is forced into the pipe, forms a bulge in the latter, and a reduction in the diameter of the sleeve forces the latter to abut against the bulge produced by the, stopper of the inner part.
The appended drawing represents, to by way of example, several embodiments of the assembly according to the invention. Figs. 1 and 2 are longitudinal sections of a first embodiment, la, fig. 1 being a section showing the assembled parts, ready for the fixing operation, and FIG. 2 a section showing the parts after this operation has been carried out. Figs. 3 and 4 are similar sections of a second embodiment, and figs. 5, 6, 7 and 8 represent yet other forms of execution.
Overall represented by FIGS. 1 and 2, a manclion. of a connecting element is represented at 1 and an inner part at 2, this inner part having a, partially splieric head 3 #, being integral with it, this head , being intended to be pressed into a corresponding recess of the other part of the fitting, to in the usual way, with a nut (not drawn), intended to exert traction on a shoulder formed by the head.
T-Tu pipe 4 receives the inner part 2 which we y introduced, and the sleeve 1 % u'on slips outwardly on its end. Before putting in place the interior part 2, we slide on it. a metal washer 5 up to a shoulder 6 formed by a reduction in the diameter of the inner part, this shoulder limits the longitudinal displacement of the washer on the inner part towards the head of the latter. The 1 sleeve is provided with a 7 flange facing inwards and pierced with an opening to pass over the head.
The parts having been assembled as shown in FIG. 1, in which we see that the washer 5 is located in the sleeve 1 and that it rests against the end of the pipe , we gradually reduce the diameter of the sleeve 1 starting from the left end, looking at the drawings, that is to say starting from the end opposite to, </ B> la ron delle à and moving towards the latter, During this contraction, the rubber pipe flows longitudinally, op, which causes a deformation of the washer 5,
since this is retained by the shoulder 6 and cannot move axially. Due to the resistance offered by the washer to the flow # of the rubber, it follows that the latter is strongly pressed against the outer face of the inner part 2 and against the inside face of the sleeve 1. The outside diameter of the washer 5 is such that there is a gap in relation to to the inside face of the sleeve 1, before the tightening operation has started, play which -is removed when this operation has been carried out, to the point that the pipe is strongly tightened, both against the part, inside and against the sleeve,
and that at this moment the washer is also strongly tightened against the sleeve.
As during this contraction, the sleeve 1 lm itself elongates in the same direction as the flow of rubber during its flow, it follows that 'he! there is little or no relative movement between the inner face of the sleeve 1 and the outer face of the rubber - and thus an abrasive action of these two surfaces is avoided. the other, during the progressive tightening of the sleeve.
The diameter of the opening of the flange 7 is preferably such that after the constriction due to the contraction of the sleeve 1, the peri opening is pressed strongly against the outer face of the inner piece and thus produces an additional closure. This flange is rounded at its junction with the wall of the sleeve and the periphery of the washer is rounded in a corresponding manner.
The inner face of the sleeve 1 may be provided with a peripheral groove (not shown) which, as a result of the elongation (read sleeve during the, de res The tightness would come into alignment with the periphery of the washer 5, the groove being forced over the periphery of the washer, as a result of the reduction in the diameter of the sleeve. effective closure, Particularly useful when the hose is used to transport fluids under very high pressure.
The faces of the inner piece and of the sleeve may be provided # respectively with annular grooves 8 and 9, producing ribbed keys on the rubber ,, which is forced into these grooves, during the tightening. The end of the sleeve opposite to that which presents the flange may be open, that is to say that the sleeve may not present a flange to this end.
Usually, the gradual reduction in the diameter of the sleeve 1 begins at the end of the sleeve opposite to that presenting the flange and progresses towards this one, but it can also start at approximately in the middle of the sleeve and progress gradually, on each side of this central zone; the flow of the pipe to the. washer is limited by the latter like this has. been described above, while. that flow in the other direction is permitted by the end of the sleeve, which is open;
in this case, the elongation of the sleeve during the tightening operation (which would take place in a slower way) would occur in two directions, corresponding to the two directions of l rubber flow.
It will be observed here that due to the flow of the pipe, the pressure exerted over the entire length of the sleeve is at roughly uniform, so that the sleeve is not submitted. at high localized stresses and therefore the metal of the sleeve is used in a more efficient manner, for a given thickness, than if the reduction in diameter were localized.
The constrictions 8 of the inner part, 2 may have an inclined face to allow the rubber to flow easily over them during the tightening operation., But of </ B> bite into the rubber, if the latter tends to move in the opposite direction; in the case where the constriction takes place in opposite directions to from a central zone, the constrictions on either side of the middle of the inner part would have faces inclined in different directions opposites.
The washer 5 can, if desired, have the shape of a cup and it cannot move longitudinally over the inner part in the direction of its direction. , front face, because this inner part has a weak shoulder 6 against which the washer is threaded.
The usual part serving as a loosening nut can be threaded onto the internal part, before. the washer has not been installed; in cases where it would not be necessary to thread Véerou from the end of the inner part, the washer could be made integral with the inner part, for example by forcing it into a groove cut in the part interior.
While the present invention is susceptible of general application to rubber hose fittings, it is of special interest when applied to </ B > large-sized hoses that have to work under high pressure, because it allows large quantities of rubber to be moved quickly by flow. On the other hand, when pipes have to be used under high pressures, a metal braid 10 is encased in the. rubber of the hose and it will be appreciated that, as the braid elongates during the tightening operation, the rubber, which is in intimate contact with the braid, flows out. with the latter.
The assembly shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 comprises an internal part 2 which presents an enlargement Il of its external diameter to that of its ends intended to be introduced, as shown in the figure, into the end of a pipe 4.
It will be seen from FIG. 3 that the placement of the inner part 2 forces the pipe to to bulge, as indicated in 12.
An outer sleeve 1 is passed over the end of the pipe and pushed towards the bulge 12. If the diameter of the sleeve is reduced to pinch the part of the pipe which is between the bulge 12 and the end of the pipe, the end of the sleeve, as seen in fig. 4, will take a position in which it stumbles, 13 against the enlargement 11 or more precisely against the bulge 12 formed in the, pipe by enlargement 11, because the inside diameter of the handle is smaller than the outside diameter of the bulge,
Although it is generally preferred to arrange the end face of the sleeve 1 so that it constitutes a stopper, it could also be formed at another location along the length. g, ueur of this, sleeve, this length being such that, when the sleeve is put in place., it extends sufficiently towards the bulge 12 so that the latter is tightened strongly to the end of the sleeve tightening operation.
The widening 11 of the inner part 2 generally has an inclined or conical face, as shown, arranged so that the minimum diameter is on the side of the anterior end of the inner part, - end on which the connection is made, the -surface of the stop of the sleeve being inclined in a corresponding manner.
You can also start to tighten the sleeve 1 starting from the middle region of it and progress first towards the washer 5 and then towards the bulge 12. However, it suffices to tighten the sleeve gradually from from one end, that is to say from from the end opposite to the washer, tightening in the direction of the washer.
It can be observed that the greater the pressure tending to to drive it away. inner part 2 outside the pipe 4, the greater the clamping pressure exerted on the rubber, between the widening 11 of the inner part and the stop 13 of the sleeve ; any tendency of the inner part to to be driven out would cause the clamping face of the widening 11 to to move towards the clamping face of , this stop 13.
As best seen in fig. 5, but also in fig. 1 to 4, the lower part, 2, may have grooves 14 and there arranged so that the flange 7 and the ron delle to (which, during assembly, cannot be on the inner part, up to the shoulder 6) are forced by the tightening of the sleeve 1 to enter these grooves;
the sleeve and the washer are therefore effectively linked to the part. interior, -and the result- .1at of the operation.tQii is the fixing of the end of the pipe between the sleeve and the interior part. .
As can be seen in fig. 5 and also- in fig. 6, the end of the hose can be placed by removing the outer rubber coating up to the braid 10, so to discover this last;
thus, the tightening of the sleeve creates a solid mechanical link with the metal braid 10; in addition to creating this mechanical link, this arrangement also makes it possible to establish, by means of the metal braid, a electrical continuity between the connecting element fixed on one end of a section of pipe and the connecting element fixed on its other end, which is a necessity which is frequently emphasized when making installations. pipes in, airplanes.
In order to avoid all the difficulties that could arise when inserting into the sleeve 1 the end of the pipe prepared as a result of the push-back of the metal edges of the braid, it is possible, as shown fig. 7, leave on these edges, a thin layer 16 -of, rubber, In the embodiment shown by the fig. 8, which is provided to ensure electrical continuity, as well as a mechanical connection, instead of completely uncovering the braid at the end of the pipe, as shown in, fig. 6 and 7, we do not remove it,
outer rubber coating only in places (for example by piercing it) and in the notch, (or the notches) thus formed, metallic rings are introduced which 17 which (during tightening of the sleeve) establish a solid contact between, the, sleeve, on the one hand, and the braid, on the other hand.
