Description

Method of photography for obtaining cinematographic color views and apparatus for its implementation. The present invention relates to a method of photography for obtaining cinematographic color views, this method being characterized in that an image light beam coming from an objective is subdivided into two light beams whose axes are located in a plane containing the longitudinal center lines of a pair of superimposed films,

that one exposes alternating fields of the pair of films to one of the beams by printing a component of a different color on each of these films, and that one exposes alternating fields not previously exposed from only one of these films to the other beam by printing on this film a third color component.

The invention also relates to an apparatus for implementing this method, this apparatus being characterized in that it has two exposure windows, a light ray divider for these two exposure windows, means for passing two films superimposed at the rate of two fields at the same time facing one of the two exposure windows and means for passing one of these films at the rate of two fields at.

both next to the second window to expose the fields not exposed to the first window, which alternate with the exposed fields.

Two embodiments of the apparatus which is the subject of the present invention are shown, schematically and by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 shows an elevation in partial vertical section of a cinematographic apparatus.

Fig. 2 is a vertical elevation, partly in section, of the shutter of FIG. 1.

Fig. 3 shows a plan view of one of the exposed negative films with color printing.

Fig. 4 shows a longitudinal section of the film according to FIG. 3 showing, somewhat exaggeratedly, the colored matter on the film emulsion of the fi-. 3.

Fig. 5 shows a plan view of the other exposed negative film having two color prints on the alternating fields.

Fig. 6 shows a longitudinal section of the film according to FIG. 5.

Fig. 7 shows a partial vertical sectional elevation of a second embodiment of the apparatus.

The apparatus 1 shown in the drawing is provided with two exposure windows 2 and 3 in the film guides 2 'and 3' arranged perpendicularly to one another. In front of these guides is placed a prism 4 having a partially reflecting surface 5. The prism 4 receives light rays in natural colors coming from an objective. The light coming from the objective 6 is divided in a well-known manner by the prism 4, the direct beam passing through the window <B> 22 </B> and the beam reflected by the window 2.

Between the prism 4 and the windows 2 and 3 is placed a shutter 7 having a shaft 8 and means, not shown, for producing a rotational movement of the shutter 7 in time relation with the mechanisms 9 and 10 for moving the shutters. movies. The radial part 11 of the shutter 7 is provided with an arc-shaped orifice 12 to admit light at certain times to the window 2. The shutter 7 is provided with a peripheral edge 13 perpendicular to its edge. veil 11.

The edge 13 is provided with an arc-shaped slit 14 of the same angular extent as the slit 12 in order to bring the reflected beam to the window 3 at the same time as the direct beam is admitted to the window 2.

For the use of the apparatus 1, preferably a panchromatic film 15 unwound from a roll 16 and an orthochromatic film 17 unwound from a roll 18 are preferably used.

Ortho film 17 is highly sensitive to blue and is used to record the blue print on it on fields indicated at 19 in fig. 3 and alternating with fields left blank. The film 17 comprises an emulsion 20 the face of which is covered with a red color, as indicated at 21 in FIG. 4. In the film guide 3 'is provided a green filter, while no filter is provided in window 2.

Films 15 and 17 are taken from rolls 16 and 18 respectively and superimposed with their emulsions face to face, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 6: in which the emulsion 23 of the film 15 is oriented to the left, while the emulsion 20 of the film 17 is oriented to the right. The films 15 and 17 thus superimposed are brought through to the guide 2 ', the ortho film 17, after having left this:

guide, is brought by means of toothed wheels not shown towards a receiving roller 24. After leaving the guide 2 ', the film 15 is separated from the film 17, as shown at 25, and passes in a loop 26 above the edge of the two films 15 and 17, so that the emulsion side of the film 15 at 26 faces outward, the loop then being drawn back on itself, so that the emulsion side of the film 15 is opposite the film 17,

the part of the film 15 extending in the direction opposite to the direction it occupied when leaving the guide 2 '. The film 15, with its emulsion facing outwards, is now brought through the guide 3 'and, after leaving this guide, it is actuated by a toothed wheel and wound up on a reel 28. The loop 25, 26 in the film 15 serves to place the film 15 first laterally and then on the opposite side of the film 17, so that the film 17 can be separated from the film 15 leaving the guide 2 ', while the film 15 can be brought through the guide 3 'with its emulsion in front of the window 3.

Loop 25, 26 may be held by itself during operation of the apparatus, or guide rollers not shown may be provided.

The advancement mechanisms 9 and 10 operate simultaneously to move the films 15 and 17 in front of the window 2 and the film 15 in front of the window 3, at the rate of two fields at a time, the advancement of the films taking place in the direction clockwise through guides 2 'and 3'.

After exposure in the camera, the film 17 bears on every second field an impression of the blue component, as indicated in 19. All the even fields of the film 15 are exposed by a key window 2 or 3, and the other fields are exposed to the other window, from which result alternating impressions of the red and green components, as indicated at 29, 30 in fig. 4.

In the form of execution shown in FIG. 7, an arrangement is provided for photographing the green print in the direct beam from the prism 4, while the red and blue prints are photographed in the reflected beam. Fig. 7 shows one of the different methods that can be employed to achieve this goal.

In the arrangement of FIG. 7, the advancement mechanisms 50 and 51 cooperating with toothed wheels not shown cause the film to pass in a direction opposite to that of FIG. 1, namely clockwise, the horizontal guide 52 being used for the two superimposed films and the vertical guide 53 for the film 15.

After the blue and red prints have been formed on the films superimposed by the beam reflected chi to the guide 52, the films 15 and 17 are separated by the loop 54 similar to the loop 25, 26 of FIG. 1, the film 17 passing over a take-up roll 55, while the film 15 passes through the guide 53 to receive the green print, and then to the take-up roll 56. For everything else, the construction of the apparatus according to fig. 7 and its operation are the same as those described with respect to FIG. 1.

In both cases, the device records the three color impressions on the same alignment, i.e. on the same part of the width of the film. After the films 15 and 17 have been developed, the blue prints on the film 17 are printed in succession on successive fields of a positive film using a positive pitch printer. The red prints 29 appearing on alternating fields of film 15 are also printed on successive fields of another positive film, and similarly the green impressions 30 which are printed on successive fields of a third positive film.

A projection film is prepared using the three positive films thus produced. This positive film can be used for projection in a cinema projector of a normal model and this projection film bears a transparent image in natural colors.
