Description

Elektromechanisches Wellenfilter.

Electromechanical wave filter. The invention relates to an electromechanical wave filter which has a series of mechanical vibration elements coupled to one another, the end elements of the series, which are used to convert electrical vibrations into mechanical vibrations, or vice versa, are made of a material with high There are coefficients of magnetostriction and internal mechanical damping, while the intermediate elements are made of a material with a low coefficient of internal mechanical damping.

Compared to the usual wave filters of purely electrical type, which have the most different combinations of resistances, self-inductances and capacities, be sitting known electromechanical filters of the type mentioned above for some applications to certain advantages.

A benefit of the electromechanical wave filters is the high quality factors that can be obtained. As a result, sharply cut bandpass characteristics can be achieved with only a few filter elements and the physical dimensions of such filters can be kept relatively small.

The previous filters of this type work only at relatively low frequencies be satisfactory, and the present invention is intended to improve these filters so that they can work well above 25 kHz in the ultrasonic area.

According to the invention, the electro-mechanical wave filter is characterized in that each vibration element consists of a flat, rectangular plate, where the two end elements are the same width, all intermediate elements are equal in width, the frequency of the width resonance oscillation for all plates is the same and all these plates are arranged in one plane so that the widths lie in the direction of transmission of the kinetic energy through the filter.

The coefficient. The magnetostriction of a material is determined by measuring the relative change in length of a test rod which is subjected to a magnetic field of 50 Gauss in the longitudinal direction. With pure nickel this change in length is 2 X 10-7 per Gauss. If the coefficient of a material is greater than 0.5 X 10-7 per Gauss, it should be considered high.

The coefficient of internal mechanical damping of a material is the logarithmic damping decrement of a mechanical vibration element made from this material when the vibration element does not deliver any work to the outside; this decrement is inversely proportional to the quality factor. If the coefficient of internal damping is greater than 0.001, it is said to be high. and if it is less than 0.001, it is said to be low.

Some exemplary embodiments of the subject of the invention are shown in the figures of the accompanying drawing.

S and 10 show other arrangements of individual parts of the filter according to FIGS. 1 and 6, and FIGS. 9 and 11 show schematically the corresponding types of vibration.

According to FIG. 1, the radio frequency signals picked up by the antenna 1 are amplified ver ini amplifier and frequency converter 2 and converted into intermediate frequency signals .. The anode voltage source is indicated by B -I-. The intermediate frequency signals are passed via a step-down transformer 3 to a magnetostrictive transformer 4 arranged at one end of the electromechanical filter.

In this the signal currents are converted into mechanical vibrations, which are transmitted through the central part 5 and then converted back into signal currents at the other end of the filter by the magnetostrictive transmitter 6. The signal currents from the Ütransformer 6 are passed through a step-up transformer 7 to the intermediate frequency amplifier and detector ä, where they are rectified in the usual way, amplified and the loudspeaker 9 is printed out.

The dual frequency signals from the converter 2 are pushed to the primary @ vindun - eii 10 of the step-down transformer 3 mentioned. The capacitor 11, which is parallel to the primary winding 10, selects the inductance of this weighing together with the intermediate frequency, with a relatively large current flowing in the circuit formed by the primary winding 10 and the capacitor 11B. The voltage occurring at the secondary winding 11A is due to the current flow in the primary circuit 10 of the transformer 3 empty.

The secondary winding 11_1 has relatively few turns in comparison to the ZVieklung 10, which has the effect that the impedance transmitted into the Sektindärwiek- development 11-1 and the voltages occurring therein are both low.

The Sekitndärwindnng 11_1 of low impedance is connected in series with the capacitance 1.1 B tind of the input coil l2 of the magnetostrictive transformer 4, the impedance of the coil 12 also being low, so that on the Coil 1.2 a large power is transmitted.

The capacitance 11B oscillates in resonance with the inductance of the coil 12 at the intermediate frequency. The current that flows to the input coil 12, as a result of the voltage induced in the secondary winding 11.A, generates a magnetic flux of varying density in the final vibration element 13 of the filter. The flux generated by a Si-nalstrom, which flows into the input coil 12, runs parallel to the direction of propagation of the energy through the electro-mechanical filter.

The permanent magnet 14 generates a constant raft in the end element 13, which is parallel to the flux generated by the current flowing into the input coil 12: the constant flux is used to pretension the end element 13 Magnetic flux in the input coil 12 has a magnetostrictive effect in the element. 13. This magnetostrictive effect produces a change in the dimension of the element 13 parallel to the magnetic flux.

The motion energy generated by this magnetostrictive effect is successively transmitted through the coupling members 15 and the intermediate vibration elements 16, 17, 18 and 19, and from the last intermediate element 19 through other coupling members 15 to a second end element 20 transferred. The end element 20 is in the output coil 21 of the magnetostrictive transmitter 6. The permanent magnet \ '? causes in the end element 20 a constant flux parallel to the axis of the output coil 21 .

In the field of the permanent magnet 22, a change in that dimension of the element 20, which is parallel to this field, causes a niagnetostrictive effect, which causes a corresponding change in the magnetic flux in the element 20. A corresponding voltage is generated in the output coil.

This voltage is pressed across the capacitance 23_1 of the primary wave 23 of the step-up transformer 7, which capacitance has such a size that it oscillates in resonance with the inductance of the output coil 2l at the second frequency.

The intermediate frequency (luence signal voltage, which is seen on the secondary vieklun,) - '' 4 of the step-up transformer 7 has. an amplified amplitude, and if the secondary oscillation 24 and the capacitance 25 are brought to resonance with the intermediate frequency, then the impedance of the resonance circuit is sufficiently large to produce an effective coupling with the grid circuit of the subsequent intermediate amplification stage.

The equilibrium of the modulation signals, the amplification and reproduction are carried out in the elements 8 and 9 in the usual way. A control voltage AVC taken from the Seliwin-ungskreis is used in the usual way to compensate for the fading.

The mode of operation of the electromechanical wave filter can be seen best from the schematic representation of FIG. It is. It can be seen that the electromeelianiselie wave filter comprises several vibrating elements coupled to one another, which are arranged in a row, namely the end elements 13, 0 and a number of intermediate elements 16, 17, 18 and 19.

In Fig. 4 is. an arrangement is shown for generating a flux through the end elements 13 and 20 parallel to the axis of the coils 12 and 21. A magnetic flux flows from corresponding poles through the end elements 13 and 20. Each vibration element consists of a flat rectangular plate. The two end elements are equally wide; all intermediate elements are equal to one another in width, it being possible for the width of the intermediate elements to differ from that of the end elements.

All plates are arranged in one plane so that the widths lie in the transmission direction of the waves through the filter. Because the width of the end element 13 is parallel to the magnetic flux that flows through the input coil 1? If a flowing signal current is generated, it is this width that is changed by the inagnetostrictive effect in this element. Each individual plate has a resonance when the width of the plate corresponds to half a wavelength of the vibrations in the plate.

To achieve that the resonance of all plates occurs at the same frequency, all intermediate elements must be equal in width; there. If the end elements are made of a different material, they generally require a width which differs from that of the intermediate elements. The coupling wires 15 between the nearby visual vibration elements are ela tical members of low mass and have a length that corresponds to at least one eighth of the wavelength of the resonance vibrations in the plates, so a quarter of the plate width.

The end elements 13 and 20 are made, for example, of nickel, which has a large coefficient of 3-position netting, namely 2 X 10-7 per Gauss. The coefficient of internal mechanical damping is also high, namely 0.003. The plates 16, 17, 18 and 19 are made, for example, of stainless steel, which has a low coefficient of internal mechanical damping, namely 0.0001. It is neither an advantage nor a disadvantage if the material used in the intermediate elements has low magnetostrictive properties.

The material used for the coupling wires 15 should also have a low internal attenuation. Examples of materials with low mechanical damping coefficients are quartz, aluminum and steel. Parts 41 to 44A. of Fig.1 are later in connection with Fis. 6 explained.

Curve A. in FIG. 5 shows the attenuation characteristic or selectivity curve for a siperheterodyne radio receiver of the usual type. Curve B shows the attenuation characteristic or selectivity curve of a superheterodyne receiver that (read shown in FIG. 1 and described with reference to it) contains electromechanical filter.

The relative magnitude of the output voltage is plotted on the ordinate axis in a logarithmic scale, and the frequency is plotted on the abscissa axis.

The superiority of a radio receiver containing a filter according to FIG. 1 compared to a receiver that is currently on the market is a matter of fact. from a comparison of curves A and B of FIG. Curve 13 shows an essentially flat characteristic over a frequency range of 8 kilohertz bandwidth. This charac teristic is desirable in order to ensure a uniform amplification of the two sideband frequencies, which are present in the usual amplitude-modulated radio signals.

Curve A shows that a conventional radio receiver does not have such a flat characteristic. In the case of a receiver containing a described electro-mechanical filter, the attenuation of the radio signals, which are more than 4 kilohertz on both sides of the set frequency, is extremely rapid, as can be seen.

According to FIG. 6, the intermediate frequency signals from the radio frequency amplifier and converter 2 are direct. coupled to the high-impedance input coil 25 of the magnetostrictive transformer 26. The current which flows in this high impedance coil 25 as a result of these intermediate frequency signals generates a magnetic flux of variable density.

A constant magnetic flux originating from the permanent magnet 28 flows through the end element 27, which is formed by a rectangular flat plate, in a direction parallel to the direction of the varying magnetic flux generated by the input coil 25.

As with the filter according to FIG. 1, it is the width of the end element 27 which is arranged parallel to the magnetic flux, and the width is therefore varied in this element by the magnetostrictive effect.

The magnetostrictive movement of the ele mentes 27 propagates through the middle part 29, which has a number of intermediate elements 30, 31, 32 and 33, to the end element 35, which is also designed as a flat plate. All of these vibration elements 27, 30, 31, 32, 33 and 25 are rectangular plates of equal width, which lie in the same plane and are arranged so that the width lies in the direction of wave propagation.

The coupling elements between these six elements are wires as in the case of FIG. The one from the end element. 35 in the niagnetostrictive transducer 34 recorded movement energy is converted in the Hoehimpeclanz output coil 36 into electrical pulses. The permanent magnet 37 causes a constant magnetic flux to flow through the end element 35.

The electrical impulses occurring in the Iloehimpedanz-Ausga.ngsspule 36 are dual frequency signals which correspond to those imposed on the high-impeclance input coil 25, with the difference that only the frequencies in the pass band are transmitted.

The impedance of the output coil 36, when it is in resonance with the capacitance 46, is ge sufficiently large that it can be connected directly to the grid input of a subsequent amplifier stage 38. The Zwisehenfre- frequency amplifier, the detector and the hearing r requenz amplifier stages 38 fulfill their usual functions and deliver a hearing signal that corresponds to the modulation of the intermediate frequency signal obtained from the filter 39. This audio signal is reproduced by the loudspeaker 40.

The oscillation elements are dimensioned so that the cross-sectional area of the intermediate elements is at least approximately twice as large as the cross-sectional area of the end elements, which cross-sectional areas are perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the waves through the filter.

This sizing is. analogous to that of a purely electrical filter, in which electrical series reactances are used in the usual way in the end sections, which are half as large as those used in the intermediate sections in order to be able to avoid reflections.

To obtain a specific pass band for the electromechanical wave filter shown in FIGS. 1 and 6, the diameter of the coupling wires must be chosen so that the ratio of the total cross section of the coupling links between neighboring elements to the cross section of the end elements ( the cross-sections in planes at right angles to the direction of propagation of the kinetic energy through the filter) is essentially equal to g / 2 times the ratio of the width of the desired pass band to its center frequency.

Flat, rectangular metal plates can also perform flexural vibrations at a large number of frequencies. In order to prevent the Plat th 30, 31, 32 and 33 from transmitting energy at the sen frequencies, who attached the damping strips or dampers 41 and 42 for undesired vibrations on the sides of these plates. These damping strips can consist of rubber or another material that effectively dampens vibrations.

These strips also serve to hold the vibration elements. The way they are arranged, these damping strips have only little influence on the vibrations of the vibration elements, which vibrate in the width direction of the plates, i.e. in the longitudinal direction. One notices that the same damping strips also appear in the embodiment according to FIG. The strips there fulfill the same task and are arranged according to the same criteria.

The plates 43 and 44 and the bracket 44I1 in Fig.l and 6 serve as electrostatic and electromagnetic shielding between the input and output coil in the end portions of the electromechanical filter shown in these figures.

In Figure 7, the intermediate elements 47, 48, 49 and 50 and the coupling members 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55 are punched out as a whole from a single piece of sheet metal with low internal mechanical damping. Purely for example, it can be stated that it can again be stainless steel. The end members 56 and 57 again consist of flat plates of magnetostrictive material with. high coefficient of magnetostriction and internal mechanical damping. They can be firmly connected to the coupling elements 54 and 55 by welding or otherwise.

Such fabrication is simple and cheap. The ratio between the cross section of the coupling members and the cross section of the end elements, which was specified in connection with the filter according to FIGS. 1 and 6, leads to impracticably narrow coupling members at high frequencies. To remedy this, you can swing the magnetostrictive end elements, the inter mediate elements and the coupling members in a different way than was previously assumed.

In the schematic representation of FIG. 8, the coil 58 and the permanent magnet 59 each generate a flux in the end element 60, the direction of which is parallel to the length of the rectangular plate 60, so that the resonance frequency of the filter is determined by this length. This length and therefore the direction of oscillation of the element 60 is normal to the direction of propagation of the kinetic energy (the wave propagation direction) through the filter, which has the effect that the coupling elements for the energy transmission also oscillate in this direction.

Coupling elements with an executable cross-section then no longer result in excessive coupling between the oscillation elements. This type of excitation can therefore advantageously be used in an electromechanical filter which has the elements described with reference to FIG. 7.

Fig. 9 shows. the changes that occur in a filter according to FIG. 8 are greatly exaggerated. The end element is in a ge know moment transversely to the direction of movement direction of the wave greatly expanded; the connecting link must take part in this expansion, because its left edge is connected to the right edge of the end element. The expansion ver runs in the Breitenriehtung of the coupling member and is passed on by thrust from left to right.

The right edge of the coupling member is connected to the next plate-shaped vibration element, and a small part of the expansion force acting on the left edge of the coupling member is transmitted to this element.

If the width W of the coupling member is made larger, a larger percentage of the expansion occurring at the left edge is transferred to the right edge of the coupling member; they also act on the following element. transmitted forces between two points further apart, whereby a given force causes a greater expansion of the following element. The effectiveness of the coupling and therefore the bandwidth of the filter is thus rapidly increased as W is increased.

On the other hand causes. an increase in the length L of the coupling member a reduction in this percentage of the original expansion that occurs at the right edge of the coupling element. Increasing the length therefore reduces the effectiveness of the coupling and reduces the bandwidth.

Any desired bandwidth can be achieved by an infinite number of combinations of length L and width W; Within certain limits, these combina- tions will also prove to be practical for punching the bleed piece shown in FIG.

According to FIG. 10, the input coil 61 generates a changing magnetic flux, the direction of which runs parallel to the propagation direction of the kinetic energy through the filter. The permanent magnet 63, however, generates a flux in the end element 63 which is normal to the direction of propagation of the moving energy. The result of the magnetostrictive forces cause the element to oscillate as shown in Fig.l1.

The coupling elements of a filter using this type of excitation then vibrate as is also shown in FIG. 11, and coupling elements can therefore also be used which are made in one piece with the selection plates, as in FIG 7 shown. has been.

Moved according to Fig. 1.1. see the entire right edge of the end element in the opposite direction as the left edge. This movement is transferred to the left edge of the following #; chwinguii-selenieiites by the coupling link distorted during this process.

Three zones can be distinguished within the coupling element: A central zone, in which essentially only self-friction forces occur, and two edge zones, which are applied to the end element and the following vibration element. and in which tensile and compressive forces resulting from the bend prevail.

If 11 'is significantly greater than L, the self-forces in the central zone are essential; the coupling is then proportional to W and inversely proportional to L. However, if IV is significantly smaller than L, the central zone shrinks, and so does the compliance. of the strip for the transmission of the parallel movement is dominated mainly by the bend in the two edge zones. The coupling is then directly proportional to the third power of W and inversely proportional to the third power of L.

If L and IV are of the same order of magnitude, calculating the coupling becomes extremely difficult. In any case, however, the coupling is increased by increasing W and decreasing L. It is again possible to achieve a desired coupling with many combinations of L and W, some of which are also suitable for fabrication.

It is clear that the electromechanical wave filter according to the invention can also be used in areas other than radio receivers. For example, these filters can also be used in carrier telephony and in amplifier technology.
