Gas turbine installation. ]. The invention relates to a turbine installation. gas of the type comprising an air compressor, at least one combustion chamber and a gas turbine comprising a rotor carrying blades, said rotor being arranged to rotate inside a casing and to be actuated by combustion gases directed against these vanes from said combustion chamber to which air is supplied by said air compressor.
Its purpose is to provide efficient means for cooling the rotor and. particularly. the blades of the blades that this rotor carries, without excessive energy losses.
The installation, object of the invention, is characterized by having at least one nozzle arranged to supply a jet of cooling air from at least one side of the rotor, between the latter and the casing, at the feet of the rotor. blades of this rotor, by means arranged to take air from at least one point situated between the inlet of the compressor and a point of introduction of the fuel into the combustion chamber, and by at least one duct arranged to conduct the air thus sampled to the audit. nozzle.
The construction details of the gas turbine that comprises the installation, object of the invention, can vary considerably depending on the type of this installation and other considerations.
The installation may, in particular, include several combustion chambers, each extending between a compressor and a turbine, the rotors of which are mounted on opposite ends of the same shaft.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the installation of a gas turbine according to the invention.
The fi--. 1 is an elevation in partial section.
Fig. 2 is a partial sectional elevation on a larger scale of the rotor of the turbine and of the neighboring components.
The installation shown in the drawing com takes a casing 10, of generally frustoconical shape, to the flared end of which is fixed the rear part 11 of the casing of a centrifugal air compressor 12.
The front wall of the casing of this compressor ends with a cylindrical ring 13, through which is made. air intake, and supporting a bearing 15 by] 'intermediate spokes 14. This bearing is. designed to receive the front end of a shaft 16, the rear end of which is supported by a rear bearing 17, mounted at the narrow end of the frustoconical casing 10. The front end of the shaft 16 carries the rotor 12 of the compressor, and. a turbine rotor 18 is fixed to the rear end of this same shaft. The peripheral edge of this rotor 18 carries turbine blades 19.
The front part 21 of the casing of the turbine is fixed to the rear of the frustoconical casing 10, while a domed disc 22, also supported by this casing, carries the injector ring 23 disposed opposite the vanes of the turbine. This injector ring 23 comprises fixed guide vanes 24, serving to direct the combustion gases against the vanes 19 of the rotor of the turbine.
An annular space constituting a diffuser 25 is provided at the periphery of the casing 11 of the compressor. This space has openings in its rear wall and a set of combustion chambers 26 is arranged between these openings and corresponding openings in the front wall of the injector ring 23. The axes of these combustion chambers are located on the surface of a cone with the same axis as the shaft 16.
A set of openings 27, formed in the inner peripheral wall of the diffuser, communicates with an annular space 28, housed in the rear wall of the casing 11 of the compressor: A set of conduits 29, 10 in number or pleases, extends, from the annular space 28, towards the rear of the installation. These conduits communicate with an annular space 30, formed between the outer peripheral part of the front wall of the casing 21 of the turbine, and the inner circular wall of the injector ring 23, and are intended to conduct air. cooling.
The conduits 29 open out near the peripheral part of the rotor 18 of the turbine, in which the roots of the blades 19 are fixed.
An annular slot 31 is formed in the rear wall of the annular space 30 and constitutes an annular jet facing the peripheral part of the rotor 18. The shape of this jet, its dimensions, the ducts through which it is fed. cooling air and the point at which this air is taken are such that, during operation, cooling air is sent at high speed against the peripheral part of the rotor of the turbine, through the annular slot 31.
According to a variant, the ducts 29 can also each communicate with a separate nozzle, arranged in the front wall of the casing of the turbine, to direct cooling air against the peripheral part of the rotor of this turbine.
In all cases, the speed of the air sent against the periphery of the rotor is preferably such that this air rubs violently against the surface of this rotor and thus tends to prevent the formation of a layer of thermally insulating air.
Cooling air is also. supplied by a 32 to conduit. a space between a rear wall 33 of the casing of the turbine and the rotor 1.8 thereof, at a point close to the axis of this rotor. This. air is supplied from the same point 28 as the cooling air which strikes the peripheral part of the rotor, and it serves to prevent hot gases from entering, along the periphery of the rotor 18, into the space included between this rotor and the wall 33. Such hot gases would tend to. damage the material constituting the rotor.
Cooling air. additional is also provided at. an inner casing 20 surrounding the rear bearing 17, and to conduits 34 formed in this bearing. Air flows from conduits 3.1 and through openings 35 in the separating space. the front wall 21 of the casing of the turbine and the rotor 18 thereof, so as to flow radially outwards and to contribute to the cooling of the rotor, after having cooled the bearing 1.7.
This additional air is brought to the ducts 34 from a point 39 of the annular space into which the air enters at its exit from the rotor of the compressor, passing through a refrigerant device 38, arranged in the vicinity of the air intake from the compressor, and through a duct. 36 through an air filter 37. To the point. 39, the air pressure is greater than that of the gases in the turbine.
This additional air also tends to prevent the gases from the turbine from entering the space between the disk of the rotor of the turbine and its casing 21.
All the cooling air jets can be supplied with air through a filter or several filters. In most cases, this. is not necessary, however, except for the cooling of the rear bearing 17 of the shaft 16. The cooling air of the rotor of the turbine flows towards the outside of this one, until it encounters the hot gas key stream arriving at high speed to the vanes 19, and is driven through the vanes by this stream. Thus, the cooling of the rotor is effective at least up to the point where the cooling air meets the hot gases.
The bearing 17 is further cooled by oil supplied to it from a see -10 tank and through conduits 41; the current of oil passes through an annular cooling chamber 42 which surrounds the bearing.
In the installation described, the cooling air strikes only one of the sides of the peripheral part of the rotor of the turbine, this rotor comprising only one stage, that is to say a single wheel. Such cooling can also be applied to one or more stages of a gas turbine comprising several stages. It is also possible to direct cooling air on both sides of the peripheral part of one or more wheels of the rotor.
In the installation described, the peripheral part of the rotor and the blade roots are. effectively cooled by at least one jet of air. This jet tends to form an annular layer of cooling air between the part of the rotor in which the blade roots are mounted and the adjacent part of the casing, and this layer tends to prevent hot gases from flowing. radially inward, along the face of the rotor. One or more air jets can also, if desired, be arranged so as to. directing air out of the rotor and still more effectively preventing any leakage of hot gases into the interior of the turbine rotor.
This feature makes it possible to allow greater play between the rotor and the casing of the turbine. Heretofore, these clearances have been kept as low as possible to reduce the loss of hot gases, which required great accuracy in the manufacture of the casing and the rotor. The number of cooling air jets can be varied according to the diameter of the rotor and other considerations. In most cases, it is preferable to provide at least ten jets, each of which is fed from a different point. of the periphery of the compressor, or a continuous annular jet supplied by at least ten separate ducts, arranged along the periphery of this annular jet.
This results in an equal distribution of the cooling air and a uniform temperature of the peripheral part of the rotor and of the casing.
The conduits serving to direct the cooling air to the jets or to the nozzles may be formed by separate tubes attached, for example, to the casing of the turbine or to all of the combustion chambers. They can. also be constituted by passages made in members of the non-rotating part of the turbine.
These passages or these tubes can be provided with cooling fins or similar devices, intended to contribute to the cooling of the air which passes through these ducts.
