Description

Device for connecting a barrel and a mainspring. The present invention relates to a device for connecting a barrel and a motor spring, which can in particular be used in watchmaking. However, it is applicable to any other field, in which a barrel and a mainspring are used.

The object of the invention is to prevent overvoltage of the mainspring during reassembly. It is characterized by -a flexible connecting part, arranged inside the barrel and connecting the outer end of the mainspring to the barrel., Said part forming externally -a circumference substantially equal to the inner circumference of the barrel,

its ends being situated in the extension of one another and in contact with one another.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the invention.

Fig. 11 is a graph showing the relationship between the driving torque and the winding torque of a spring, on the one hand, and its winding degree, on the other hand.

The device shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 comprises a barrel 1, the shaft 2, a spring 3 and a flexible connecting piece 4. The illustrated device is intended for use in a watch.

The barrel 1 comprises a bottom 11, a peripheral annular wall 12 and a removable cover 13. The cover is notched .on him annular shoulder 14 that has the inner face of the peripheral wall 12. The latter has a notch. circular interior face in contact with the flexible part 4. The bottom of the barrel 11 and its cover 13 are each drilled at their center with a circular hole for the passage of the shaft, the cylindrical surfaces of which 21 and 22 are engaged in. said holes.

Between these spans 21 and 22, the shaft has a cylindrical strip 23 of larger diameter, on which is wound the spring 3. A flat die signed by 24 (fig. 1 and 3) is made on a part. of this strip 23 and has a projection 25 in the form of a hook engaged in a hole in the inner end of the spring to fix the latter to the shaft. The ends of the shaft protrude from the bottom 11 and the cover 13 and have pivots 26, respectively 27, intended for the rotary mounting of the shaft in its bearings.

The end of the shaft which projects out of the bottom 17., ends with a square 28 provided for a ratchet, not shown, belonging to the positive spring winding device.

The spring 3 is formed of a ribbon made of elastic hardened steel which is wound in spirals around the shaft 2. The height of the res out is slightly less than the inner height of the barrel, so that the spring plays freely in the spring. the latter without being fixed by its edges. The length and thickness of the spring are preferably such that the spring occupies approximately half of the annular space between the shaft and the side wall formed by the inner surface of the flexible part 4. In figs. 1 and 2, the spring is shown fully reassembled.

When the spring relaxes, its turns gradually enlarge until they are pressed against each other inside the flexible part 4.

The flexible connecting piece 4 is made of a strip of elastic material, for example steel. The height of this ribbon is substantially equal to the interior height of the barrel. Its length is substantially equal to the inner circumference of the peripheral wall 12. Its thickness is of the same order as the thickness of the spring.

In its released position, before being introduced into the barrel, the part 4 can be straight as shown in FIG. 7, or curve as shown in fig. 5, the radius of curvature being greater than the radius of the barrel. Alternatively, the flexible piece could be curved in the other direction or have only its ends curved.

The opposite ends 41 are substantially square although the corners 42 are preferably slightly rounded, as shown in FIG. 6, or are slightly folded, as shown in fig. 7, so that these ends do not tend to damage the wall of the barrel. This further improves the functioning of the device.

To introduce the flexible part into the barrel, it is wound up, its ends being covered, then it is slipped by the edge into the barrel in which it forms a single turn. The ring then relaxes and its ends are brought into the extension of one another, forcing slightly so that they press against each other at freeboard, to keep part 4 applied against the wall of the barrel. The internal tension of part 4 is used to produce the desired friction of that part on the let barrel.

The length of the part 4 and the pressure of the ends 41 abutting against one another are such that the part 4 is maintained in a circular shape corresponding substantially to the inner face of the wall 12 of the barrel, and is in contact. with it over its entire surface, so that the maximum of friction surface is thus obtained.

The outer end of the spring 3 can be attached to the flexible part in many ways. In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 5 and 6, the connecting piece 4 has a projection formed by a hook 43 obtained by stamping and engaged in a hole made in the outer end of the spring. In the embodiment of Fig.7 and 8, a hole 44 is made in the part 4, a hole in which a hook is engaged. the protrusion of the outer end of the spring.

When the outer end of the spring is connected directly to part 4, as shown in fig. 1 and 2, the attachment point is preferably placed at least a short distance from one of the ends 41 of the flexible part, so that this end does not tend to move inwards under the action of the radial component of the spring force when it is wound up.

Preferably, the connection point is in the rear half of the flexible part, so that the greater part of this part is pressed against the inner periphery of the barrel by the spring, the direction of movement being indicated by the arrow at.

The outer face of the part 4 and the inner face of the side wall 12 of the barrel are smooth. It should be noted that the connecting device is lubricated by the lubrication of the spring itself. The resistance to sliding of the part 4 or in other words the traction supported by this part without sliding can be changed by varying the pressure with which the opposite ends 41 of the part 4 are pressed against each other. other. This pressure in turn is determined by the length of the flexible part 4 relative to the inner circumference of the wall of the barrel, and also by the thickness of the part 4.

This part being thin and flexible, it applies tightly to the surface of the wall of the barrel, adapts to its shape and thus produces maximum friction and adhesion. It has been found that a connecting piece with a cross section substantially equal to that of the spring gives satisfaction and supports without slipping the force exerted by the fully loaded spring.

The fit. 11 is a graph illustrating the operating characteristics of a typical spring. The abscissa of the curve w represents the number of turns ni of the shaft of the barrel, used to wind the spring, and the abscissa of the curve u represents the number of turns n2 of the barrel itself, when of the spring relaxation. The ordinates indicate the torque at different stages between complete winding and complete relaxation of the spring. Curve w represents the torque 1111 necessary to wind up the spring, while curve u represents the torque 1112 supplied by the spring in its relaxation.

Point f of curve iv represents the point at which the spring is fully raised. At this point, the turns of the spring touch each other, tightened around the shaft 2 shown in fig. 1. Up to this point f, the torque increases gradually, as shown by the curve xo. Then, the reassembly of the spring begins to move its outer end away from the barrel, as shown at 32 in FIG. 1, and the couple increases in strong proportions, as shown by the dotted part o of the curve w,

representing the overvoltage of the spring. Point B represents the approximate point at which the spring breaks if reassembly continues.

The sliding of the connecting piece 4 occurs when the spring is fully wound up, preferably a little more. Thus, part 4 will not slide before the spring is fully wound up, but will slide before the spring or some other part of the mechanism is damaged: The torque of resistance to sliding is slightly. greater than the maximum torque of the spring so that this resistance is perceptible to a person winding the spring, thus giving a clear indication that the spring is fully wound.

Although a certain latitude is allowed in the choice of the sliding point, it must be between the points f and B of the curve w </ I > shown in fig. 11 and preferably in the lower half of this portion. As an example, the slip point has been indicated in S on the curve w.

After the sliding point has been established by a suitable choice of the material and the dimensions of the part 4, the device retains its characteristic indefinitely. When this sliding point is reached, the part 4 slides silently and regularly at the same speed as the mechanism is reassembled. As the sliding point of the device is greater than the maximum torque of the spring, the full power of the latter is maintained.

Due to its small size, part 4 hardly reduces the space reserved for the spring in the barrel.

The embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 is similar to that of Figs. 1 and 2 and the corresponding parts are designated by the same reference signs. However, it has two main differences. the first is that the interior surface of the side wall of the bay is slightly frustoconical, the largest diameter being adjacent to the bottom 11; the second lies in the connection between the spring and part 4.

The inclination of the wall 12 is slight (from 7 to 5 on the axis of the barrel) and preferably about 2. The tape 4 constituting the connecting piece has Lin its edges of a length equal to the largest circumference of the inner face of the side wall of the ba rillet and the other edge of a length equal to the small circumference; this tape 4 therefore fits on the inner surface of the wall 12 and, when the connecting piece slid to prevent the spring overvoltage, it tends to apply towards the bottom of the barrel.

The frustoconical side wall is advantageous in open barrels without a cover.

The connection between the spring and the flexible part 4 is made, in the embodiment of FIGS. 3 and 4, by a flange 51. One end of this flange 51 engages a hook 52 which the outer end of the spring has. The other end engages in a hook that has the inner face of part 4, a hook obtained for example by stamping (fig. 3). The flange 51 is preferably arcuate, as shown, so that it can be pressed against the spring and against the flexible part 4 when the spring is fully relaxed.

The flange 51 allows the outer end of the spring to move inwardly away from the wall of the barrel, which increases the pressure of the flexible part 4 when the spring is wound up. * It also has the advantage of avoiding any tendency for the spring to move the part 4 inwards when the spring is completely wound up.

Figs. 9 and 10 show yet other connecting means between the spring and the flexible part. In fig. 9, another type of flange 51 is riveted at 53 at one of its ends to the flexible part 4. The opposite end of the flange 51 engages a hook 52 which has the outer end of the spring, as for example in fig. 3. The clamp is flexible enough to allow the outer end of the spring to move inward when the spring is wound up.

Flanged connection devices are. advantageous in timepieces, as they tend to keep the spring relaxed more concentric thus reducing the friction between the turns as they wind. Fig. 9 shows the flange in the position it occupies when the spring is almost wound up.

In the embodiment of FIG. 10, one end of the flange 51 is riveted at 54 to the outer end of the spring. The opposite end of the tongue engages a hook 43 which the flexible part has.
