Gasifier. The present invention relates to a gasifier which can be supplied with good tank, the object of the invention being to ensure a high thermal efficiency as a result of the low heat losses suffered by the gas generated leaving the combustion zone and flowing to the gas outlet, the construction also ensuring that the tar vapors likely to develop in the furnace during gas formation are effectively subjected to the cracking process and fixed in the gasifier, thus making it superfluous any auxiliary purification installation which would lead to a considerable reduction in thermal efficiency.
The subject of the present invention is a gasifier comprising a casing in which the fuel is supplied through an upper feed orifice into a central combustion zone. It is characterized in that it is provided with a gas flow channel suspended in the upper central part of the casing, below the fuel supply orifice, this channel of 'flow having an inlet orifice, located at the level of said combustion zone, said gas flow channel being internally lined with refractory materials, while a reserve of fuel is located above from the top of the gas flow channel.
In a preferred embodiment, the flow channel can be suspended from spacers passing through the cold upper part of the gasifier, the flow channel being surmounted by a conical dome intended to distribute the fuel in an annular space located between the walls of the gasifier and the gas flow channel, the spacers also being embedded in masonry, at least in their part which passes through the fuel beyond said dome.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section along the line I-I of FIG. 2, and fig. 2 shows a vertical section along line II-II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section along the line III-III of FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional section taken along the line IV-IV of FIG. 2.
The fuel is introduced into the gasifier through the supply port a and it extends above and around the gas flow channel b to then descend to the grid v. The gas flow channel is suspended from spacers c, themselves supported by supports d belonging to the casing of generator e. The metal housing f of the flow channel is bolted to the lower flange of the spacer c; this casing is coated in the refractory material g. The lower part or mouth h of the flow channel is arranged at the level of the combustion zone and not at a higher level occupying a colder region, so that the hot gases supplied by the combustion zone pass directly in the flow channel without cooling down.
The dimensions of the mouth h of the flow channel are such that the underlying fuel layer is hollowed out in a cone whose angle is that of the natural slope.
The spacers c are encased in a conical masonry dome i, which has the effect of distributing the fuel to the annular space, j disposed around the gas flow channel. Each spacer is also encased in masonry, the ridge of which is in the form of a roof, as illustrated in fig. 4, in order to facilitate the cente of the fuel when the latter passes over the spacers.
An opening k to fan the fire. is provided at the top and crosses the masonry dome i of the gas flow channel. This opening is normally closed with a stopper, which can easily be removed from above. When it is removed and the diverging baffle m. in the feed orifice a has also been raised, it is easy to reach the combustion zone underlying the gas flow channel in order to fan the fire.
A first look in the form of a duct 7a has been provided; it starts from outside the generator and goes to the gas flow channel in the immediate vicinity of the combustion zone. It is placed at an angle such that one can easily observe the combustion zone. Another tubular manhole is provided at o, which starting from the outside of the generator and heading towards the gas flow channel, is disposed in alignment with the horizontal cylindrical part p of the gas flow channel, so to allow easy observation of the gases leaving the generator.
The gases leaving the flow channel pass through a dust chamber q formed of refractory materials, if killed in the body of the generator itself, these gases thus depositing the dust they contain. The wall of the. dust chamber may be provided with protrusions (fig. 3) which retain the dust projected against the outer wall when the gas passes around an inner guide wall s, which extends partially across the chamber, said wall being . itself provided with similar protrusions t. A container located at the base of the chamber collects the dust separated from the gases.
By suspending the gas flow channel b just above the combustion zone, the gas produced is prevented. by the generator passes through relatively cold fuel which feeds the combustion zone by gravity, so that the gas being kept at a high temperature during its passage from the generator to the flow channel, any tar vapor coming from the zone combustion is effectively subjected to the cracking process and is deposited inside the gas flow channel.
By maintaining a constant thickness of fuel above the combustion zone u, it is possible to ensure a regular quality and temperature of the gas generated.
