Bouton.
Button. The present invention relates to a button covered with a trim and comprising an added element.
Elements that can be combined to form covered buttons are well known. Furnishing them with fabric, leather or similar covering material usually requires special tools and special skill, so that this upholstery cannot be done at home. Recently, simple assemblies have been created which can be done at home. These elements comprise a hollow-shaped part comprising on one side a large opening which is bordered by teeth directed inward. These teeth are given positions and orientations which allow the hostess or the seamstress to tighten a covering material on the shaped piece and to fix it there, even before inserting an obturating member. in the opening.
The button, object of the invention, comprises a shaped part which has a front opening intended to accommodate and retain an insert, and a larger rear opening, the edge of which is provided with retaining means integral with the part. and retaining a trim placed on the exterior surface of that part. The insert makes it possible to obtain a much greater number of effects, and gives buttons, partially or totally covered, the appearance of which is extremely pleasant. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the button forming the subject of the invention. In this drawing, each of the figures is a section through the middle of the buttons or parts of buttons shown.
Fig. 1 shows a shaped part and its front opening intended to house the insert.
Fig. 2 shows a hollow insert fitted with special devices for fixing a gasket on it. , Fig. 3 is another form of hollow flanged insert which is not intended to be covered.
Figs. 4 and 5 show inserts full of various shapes and which must also remain uncovered.
Fig. 6 shows a shutter piece of the form piece.
Fig. 7 shows the insert of FIG. 2 covered with a filling.
Fig. 8 shows this trimmed insert, held in the front opening of the forming part of FIG. 1 thanks to a gasket covering the latter part.
Fig. 9 shows the button, once the trim of the form piece has been stretched and fixed on it.
. Fig. 10 shows the finished assembly, after insertion of the closure part of FIG. 6 in the rear opening of the filled form piece. Fig. 11 shows another finished button, which differs from that of FIG. 10 by the use of the uncovered insert shown in FIG. 4.
Fig. 12 shows yet another finished button, in which the form piece and the trimmed report element both have shapes other than in FIG. 10.
The annular-shaped part 1 shown in FIG. 1 and used in the buttons of fig. 8 to 11 has, on one side, a front opening 2 intended to accommodate an added element. The rear opening, located on the other side, larger, is bordered by teeth 3 directed inwards and placed just against the rear outer edge of the part 1. There is shown in FIG. 2 a hollow insert 4 forming a half-round capsule and the rear opening of which is furnished with teeth 5; these face inward and their bases are just on the lower outer edge.
These teeth, as in the case of part 1, serve to hold the lining on the insert, as can be seen in FIGS. 7 to 10.
The added elements shown in FIGS. 3, 4 and 5 are intended to remain uncovered. The hollow element of FIG. 3 is preferably made of a gilded or silver metal, while the solid elements of FIGS. 4 and 5 can be made of glass or plastic, and colored. Element 6 of FIG. 4 is shown throughout in FIG. 11 and can imitate a pearl. Of course, we can = use other materials to obtain an infinite number of effects.
It is necessary and sufficient for the rear part of the insert to have a shape and dimensions corresponding to those of the front opening of the shaped part in which it is to be inserted. Preferably, but not necessarily, the insert has a conical shape and the shape and dimensions of its base correspond to those of the front opening. The base, especially in an uncovered element, may be slightly larger than the opening to prevent the element from falling. A closure part 7, shown in FIG. 6, is intended to elastically penetrate into the rear opening of the forming part, as has been shown in FIGS. 10 to 12.
This preferred form of closure part comprises a folded annular part 8 forming a groove 9 in which the teeth 3 of the form part engage. It comprises in its middle a loop 10 for fixing by sewing, which can be fixed to it by any suitable means, such as riveting or welding.
Figs. 7 to 10 show the various stages of the trim and assembly of a fully trimmed button using the form piece 1, the insert 4 and the shutter piece 7. FIG. 7 shows the element. hollow insert 4 covered with a gasket 1_1 which is stretched over it and is held by the teeth 5. It is very easy to fill this element because the bases of the teeth are just on the rear outer edge, which gives a opening of maximum dimensions in which the excess trim is pushed, and which allows it to be stretched in a simple and regular way: This hand organization also holds the trim better and against the lower edge.
Fig. 8 shows the first assembly operation of the shaped part covered with its lining and the attached element also covered. To perform this assembly, the element 4 of FIG. 7 in the middle of a square piece of packing 12 having the desired dimensions; the four corners and edges of this trim are brought together on the element and they are passed from the back to the front through the opening 2 of the shaped piece 1. The trim is then stretched, which tightly applies the 'element. covered 4 against the edges of the opening 2 and fixes it in this opening.
The element cannot travel through the opening, because it is prevented from doing so by its own lining as well as by the lining 12 which has also been passed through this opening. When using the uncovered element 6 (see fig. 11), the gasket 12 of the shaped part 1 is sufficient to prevent this element from sliding through the opening 2. For safety purposes, a collar can be provided. , as in the case of the uncovered element of FIG. 3.
After smoothing, the square piece of trim 12 which protrudes from the edges of the shaped piece 1 is circularly cut, leaving a sufficient border to hang this trim on the teeth 3, and by stretching this trim around the periphery of said piece of form. In this way, the gasket is fixed to this part, as can be seen in FIG. 9.
Fig. 10 shows the finished button with its closure piece 7 elastically fitted into the rear opening. This figure shows that the elasticity of the tips of the teeth 3 allows them to yield up to a certain point under the effect of the pressure exerted by the folded circular part 8 of the closure part 7. After passing this part , the teeth return by elasticity in the groove 9 and return to their initial position. Of course, the obturation part can be separated from the assembly of FIG. 10 using a very sharp instrument.
This allows the user to use the button described several times, and gives him a wide range of applications by replacing the trim with a new one both on the shaped part and on the insert, according to his personal taste. sonnel. The new button, trimmed can thus have a very different appearance from its previous presentation.
Fig. 11 shows the same button, with the difference that the insert is half-round and imitates a bead 6 of glass or plastic. Trim this button exactly as explained, starting by placing the element in the middle of a square piece of trim of suitable dimensions.
Fig. 12 shows a differently shaped shaped part, and a trimmed insert of another type. The front opening of the form piece 13 is larger than that of the piece 1 and the front edge of this piece is rounded. Element 14 shown with it has an annular shape, and the liner is simply stretched over the outer edge and gripped at the rear by the teeth pointing towards; inside, as in. the case of the hollow and rounded element 4. The packed element thus obtained is assembled to the shaped part 13 in the manner described above in relation to FIGS. 8 to 10.
It is obvious that one can give the shaped part and the attached element a large number of different shapes. Likewise, it is possible to give the shutter part very different shapes from that shown in the drawing. For example, one can use a disc of elastic material carrying a groove on its outer edge. In general, it is preferred to use sheet material for constituting the various elements of the assembly, although other materials may be preferred for solid and uncovered inserts, as shown in figs. 4, 5 and 11.
The assembly of the trimmed buttons, provided with inserts as described above, is so simple that it does not require any special tool or special skill; It is therefore easy for the hostess and the seamstress to prepare her own buttons at home. It is no longer necessary to go to a specialist workshop for this, and almost any professional effect can be achieved by appropriately modifying the packing material, attachments and shaped parts.
