Description

Device for adjusting the phase of a periodic pulse. The present invention relates to a device for adjusting the phase of a periodic pulse.

In electrical engineering, there is often a need to be able to adjust the phase of a periodic pulse. Thus, to maintain the movement of a secondary clock, a pulse is sent every second from a directional clock which supplies, for example, an electromagnet. -'- maintenance of the pendulum of the secondary clock. When it comes to setting the time to the latter, it is necessary to vary the time interval separating it. two successive impulses, and this by degrees weak enough not to compromise the synchronization.

It is the same when it comes to setting the time on a quartz clock.

Let us therefore suppose a cam rotating at a constant speed and, for example closing every second a contact which sends an impulse into a chronometric device. In order to adjust the phase of the pulses given by this contact, it has already been proposed to mount their contact-carrier blades on a disc coaxial with the cam and capable of rotating on itself. So much. that the disc remains immobile, the contact. is closed every second by the. cam.

If we want to increase the time interval separating two successive pulses, it suffices to rotate the disc by a determined angle, the phase shift being. of the following advance or delay. that the disc is rotated in the opposite direction or in the same direction as the cam. Such a device has the drawback. that it only allows to obtain a limited phase shift, because as soon as the disc rotates more than 360, the connection wires attached to the lamellae become tangled and twisted.

An attempt has been made to remedy this drawback by providing two discs carrying the same, coaxial with the rotary cam, the periphery of each of these discs being connected to the terminals of the current source by the intermediary of sliding contacts. However, these never give satisfaction, because they need constant maintenance; indeed.; such contacts oxidize easily, so that at the end of a short time they fail, which is unacceptable since it is precisely a matter of ensuring the production of precise pulses at determined intervals.

The present invention aims to rationally solve the problem outlined above. Its object is a device for adjusting the phase of a pulse. periodic; this positive saying is characterized in. that it comprises a part supporting contact strips connected to the terminals of a current source, said part being. adjustable and, being mounted so as to be able to perform only a circular translational movement, one of said strips carrying a feeler cooperating with the profile of a rotating cam-bell, all in such a way that by changing.

the position of said part, the separating time interval is varied. two successive pulses produced by the closing of the contact of said blades.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device which is the subject of the invention.

The fi.g. 1 is. a sectional view and FIG. 2 a view in. plan, the parts of the device shown occupying different positions in the two figures.

The device shown in the drawing com takes a frame 1 having on one of its sides a console 2; on the latter are fixed two tenons 3, 4 on a bearing of which are mounted two toothed wheels 5, 6. A pinion 7, simultaneously meshing with the two wheels 5 and 6, is secured to a control button 8. The Crown gear of wheels 5 and 6 extends only over a part of the thickness thereof, so that the upper face of the wheels comes to. flower of two plates 9, 10 fixed by screws 11 on pillars 12 carried by the frame 1.

The upper face of the wheels 5, 6 bears on its turn a graduation in 1:00 equal parts, while the plates 9 ,, 10 each bear a reference line (zero) and a scale forming a vernier scale.

On the flat part of the wheels 5 and 6 are mounted two crank pins 13, 14 on which is fixed a part 15. The latter has in plan the shape of a triangular plate extended by the tail 16 whose end is guided in a milling 17 made in the frame 1.

The crankpins 13, 14 are mounted on the wheels 5, 6 @ so that the spokes connecting the centers of the parts 4, 14 and. 3, 13 are always parallel and have the same meaning; consequently, if we turn the control knob 8, the pinion 7 will drive the wheels 5 and 6 in the same direction, and. the part 15 will only be able to execute a circular movement of translation, that is to say that the tail 16 will always remain parallel to itself.

The part 15 supports two contact strips 18, 19 separated by insulating masses 20 and connected at 21, respectively 2 \ ', to the terminals of a current source. (not shown). > A rotary bell 23 is mounted below the slats 18, 19 so that its axis 24 is perpendicular to said slats. The axis '224 passes through an opening <B>' </B> 5 of the frame 1. The strip 18 carries a feeler 26 cooperating with the profile of the eame-bell 23, due to the elasticity of the strip 18.

An adjustment screw 27 allows the separation distance to be varied. the blades 18, 1.9 and, consequently, the sensitivity of the contact 28.

Spring washers 29, 30, mounted respectively on the tenons 3, 4 and on the crankpins 13, 14, take. the play of the pivots and retain the device in the desired position.

The attachment points of the son, 21 and 22, during the adjustment of the apparatus, describe, as already said, only a translation fignzre. It is represented by circles in. mixed lines the trajectory of eliactin from them 2). There is therefore no danger of twisting or winding the threads.

The device described. and represented functions as follows: Suppose that the cam 3 is driven around its axis, in the direction indicated by the arrow, to. a uniform speed of one revolution per second. Every second the feeler 26 falls into the notch 31 of the cam, which closes the contact 28 and sends an impulse into the device of use. The latter reviews a periodic pulse clone.

To adjust the phase of this pulse, we act on the control button 8. Thus, if we wind. increase the time interval between two successive pulses, turn knob 8 clockwise by a certain angle (fig. 2); the wheels <B> 5 </B> and 6 turn. then counterclockwise, and the feeler does the same in relation to the cam 23.

The sin illustrates the case where the knob 8 is turned so that the wheels 5 and 6 turn 90 counterclockwise (initial position: fig. 1, final position: fig. 2). In this case, the interval between the two pulses was increased to 1.25 seconds. If you no longer touch button 8, the following intervals are again one second. We see. that the device described makes it possible to obtain a phase adjustment of any magnitude. In fact, nothing prevents wheels 5 and 6 from turning several turns if it is a question of correcting a large deviation. On the other hand, the operation is. very safe since there is no sliding contact.
