Hook closure device, in particular for an envelope.
It is known to close envelopes or cones by means of hooks made up of a metal tab stapled to the body of the envelope or cone and which is folded back on itself, after having passed it through a hole of a closing tab.
This arrangement has two major drawbacks:
First, the tongue breaks after a certain number of folds.
Secondly, the fact that the stapling necessitates elements passing through the wall of the casing or of the horn and forming protrusions inside which can be dangerous for certain goods, such as for example thin stockings or gloves.
The present invention overcomes this drawback by providing a hook closure device, characterized in that it comprises a hook consisting of a metal tongue curved once and for all on itself and ending in a wider heel. that the tongue is capable of sliding in a flat tube consisting of a folded piece of paper having a slot through which the tongue passes, this slot being narrow enough to prevent the heel from coming out of the tube, said piece of paper being intended to be attached to the outside on the body of the object to be closed, the hook being provided to maintain a closing tab in the closed state.
The drawing shows one embodiment of the object of the invention, given by way of example.
Figs. 1 to 3 show the constitution of the hook.
Figs. 4 and 5 relate to the construction of the folded piece of paper.
Fig. 6 shows the assembly of this part and the hook.
Fig. 7 shows part of an envelope closed by means of the hook closure device of FIG. 6.
To constitute the hook itself, we take a rectangle of metal 1 (fig. 1) which we cut in the shape of a T, that is to say so as to have crumble tongue 2 and a wider heel 3.
The hook will be formed by this part by folding the tongue back on itself, as indicated in the perspective view of FIG. 3.
You can even finish the end of the hook with a small bead'4.
In the case of die cutting, the T-pieces of fig. 2 may be executed in successive rows, offset and reversed with respect to each other, so as to have no material fall.
To attach the hook to the envelope (or to the cone for example), take a sheet of paper also rectangular 5 (fig. 4), larger, at least in width, than the metal rectangle 1.
This paper will then be cut according to the profile of FIG. 5, that is to say so as to provide along its length a central strip 6 of width slightly greater than the width of the heel 3 and in the middle of the height of which, at 7, a transverse notch of length just sufficient to allow the tab forming the hook to pass.
From the point where the size 7 is made, the central strip 6 of the wings 8 is finally left on both sides, one on each side.
The assembly of the elements which have just been described will be carried out as appears from the examination of FIG. 6. Having passed the tongue 2 through the notch 7 before forming the hook, it is bent to form the latter. Replied. nt then the strip 6 on itself so that the notch 7 falls into the fold, the wings 8 are folded over the assembly, which has the effect of enclosing the heel 3 in a flat tube made of paper.
In this tube, the hook and its heel will be able to slide the length of the hook, this movement being in fact limited, on the one hand, by the hook itself, on the other hand, by the heel, too wide to pass through. notch 7.
Note that the wings 8 of one of the folded halves must be folded over the other half on the side opposite the hook.
This indeed makes it possible to glue the assembly to the back of an envelope such as 9 in FIG. 7, the closing tab 10 of which has an opening 11 suitable for providing passage for the hook 2.
By sliding this hook (shown in the closed position) in its paper guide 6, 7, 8, it is possible to open and close the envelope without bending the hook.
In addition, it can be seen that the closure device is adapted to the outside of the envelope and does not have any part penetrating inside. It is obvious that other means of fixing the device of FIG. 6 to the envelope that direct bonding can be considered; for example, we could keep the whole thing by a sticky tape passing over it.
As has been said, the hook closure device described is not exclusively intended for envelopes, but can also be adapted to cones or other containers of the same kind.
