Cinematographic projector with horizontal displacement of the film, intended in particular for stereoscopic projection. For the taking of cinematographic images in relief, it is known to impress a film moving horizontally in front of the two objectives of an apparatus. It is, however, possible to use the same apparatus for the printing of a film on one half by a single objective during its first passage through the apparatus and after inversion of the reels by on </ B> same objective on its second half during its second passage through the device.
By cutting the film longitudinally in its axis of symmetry, before or after -development, it is possible, as shown to the fig. 11 of the attached drawing, paste the end of la, first half Z of the film at the beginning of its second half A. We can thus, in giving up the use of 3D images, doubling the duration of the film.
In this case, it is advantageous to have a projector allowing to project at will relief films, or films having half the width of the relief film for flat core projection.
Using a 1.6 mm format film for shooting and projection in relief by horizontally moving the film, the height of the images obtained is. substantially equal to to half the width of the images obtained when shooting on 1G min film moved vertically in view # of a flat projection, while the width of these images is 6 - aie to the author of the conventional images made on 16 mm film.
When this film has been cut in half lengthwise, for flat projection it only has perforations on one side and its width is equal. to 8 mm. However, to distinguish it from the 8 mm format film, from which it differs by its perforations twice as far apart-, from each other, this film is de- called half -16.
Projectors allowing at will the projection of films of different widths are known. In these projectors, it is generally necessary, when one wants to go from the projection of # a film of a certain width to the projection of a film of different width, to exchange some of their parts by others that correspond to the width of the new film to to project.
The object of the present invention is to simplify the operations necessary to pass from the projection in relief of a film, in particular from the 16 mm film, to plane projection. of half-width film, or half-16 film. The subject of the invention is a cine matographic projector with horizontal displacement of the film, intended in particular for stereoscopic projection, comprising at least one group of guide members constituted by a projecting part intended for cooperate with one edge of the film and by a conical stud of the tines to cooperate with the other edge, characterized in that one of the two members constituting said group,
is movable, relative to to the other by a value approximately equal to to the half-width of the film, so to to allow the flat projection of a film the width of which is equal to half of that said film intended for stereoscopic projection.
The appended drawing represents, by by way of example, a form of execution of a projector, object of the invention. The projector shown is a projector allowing the relief projection of a 16 mm film moving horizontally in front of two projection windows or the planar projection of a half-16 film, of which the width is equal to to half of that of the 16 mm film used for the relief.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the essential elements of part of this projector. Figs. 2 and 3 show respectively from the front and in profile a front part carrying film guide members, the latter being in position for the projection of a 16 </ B> mm in relief.
Figs. 4 and 5 are views similar to FIGS. 2 and 3, the guide members being in position for the plane projection of a half-16 film.
Figs. 6 and 7 represent a detail of the guide members.
Figs. 8 and 9 show a debtor, according to section IX-IX of fig. 1, in its two operating positions.
Fig. 10 is a section along _X-X of fig. 1 and represents the device for driving a coil.
Fig. 11 shows in plan the assembly of the two halves of film of format intended for the relief, but impressed, cut and glued to give a plane projection.
The headlight shown in in fig. 1 is fitted with three debtors 1, 2, 3 with vertical axes, which are intended to drive the film at constant speed. Two arms 4 are articulated by one of their ends to the projector frame and intended to carry at their other end the winding and unwinding coils. rolling of the film. The projector also comprises two groups of guide members provided for guiding the film between debtors 1. and 2, these members of #, - tiida, ç), e being shown in more detail in fi-. 2 to 7.
As the fing. 2 to 5, the projector frame includes a front plate 5, in which two projection windows 6 and 7 </ B > are planned. These windows are horizontally spaced one by For want of a certain distance ci and offset in height by a distance b at least equal to to the height of a projection window.
The part of the film passing in front of these projection windows is guided transversely by two groups of guide members comprising a projecting part 8 and a stud 9 of eonically shaped . The film is elastically pushed. perpendicularly to the plate 5 between the stud 9 and the part 8 by means not shown, of so that the distance separating it from the front plate 5 depends on its width.
We know, in fact, that the width of the films obtained on the market is not strictly constant and that it can vary within small limits which are however sufficient to prevent perfect lateral guidance of the film in its transverse direction. . Thanks to the slightly conical shape of the nipple 9 and to an elastic force pressing the film between this nipple and the protruding part 8 </ B> in the direction of the plate 5, the film is still in contact with the nipple 9 and the part 8 of so that its transverse gaidage is rigorous.
Each stud 9 passes through a groove 10 provided in the faceplate 5, and is, fixed to a lever 11 with an elongated opening 12 (fi-. 6 and 7). -A pin 13 is riveted < B> to the plate 5 and passes through this elongated opening 12, so that the lever 11 can pivot and slide on the journal when moving the stud 9 the Ion.- of the groove 10. A spring 14 is provided between the journal 13 and the stud 9 < / B> and tends to keep these two parts apart.
The spring 14 tends to keep the stud 9 pressed against one or the a-Liter, of the ends of the groove 10. Between these two extreme positions, the stud 9 passes through a neutral point, for which the longitudinal component of the force exerted by the spring 14 changes direction. This positive device therefore makes it possible to guide at will films for relief projection, or films whose width is substantially equal to a half of the relief films and which does not present tent that a row of Images only passing in front of the window 7, these films being then intended for the plane projection.
To easily allow the user to switch from relief projection to plane projection and vice versa, the projector also includes debtors, part of which is movable transversely with respect to at. film, de faeon à allow at will the training of films of one or the other format. Figs. 8 and 9 represent in axial section one of the device's debtors. This debtor is made up of two parties, the first of which is capable of sliding over the second and y of being maintained in two different positions.
The second of these parts is integral with a 15 drive shaft for the firing-flow and comprises a 16 drum carrying a row of teeth 17 </ B > intended to cooperate with the performances of the film. The 16 drum is. provided with a protruding flange 18 and is, fixed to -one end of a socket 19 which is secured to the shaft < B> 15 by means of a screw 20.
The second part of the debtor comprises a part 21 of generally cylindrical shape, having an internal bore 22 which can slide axially on the sleeve 19. The latter has two grooves 23 and 24 espa between each other at a distance appreciably equal to to the difference in widths of the two types of film which may be projected with using the apparatus.
Part 21 has two radial holes 25 in which are housed a spring 26 and a ball 27 intended to </ B > cooperate with the grooves of the sleeve 19 to hold the part 21 in each of the two positions that it can occupy with respect to to the sleeve 19. < / B> The part 21 carries a pin 28 passing through a longitudinal groove 29 of the shaft 15, in order to make this part 21 angularly, integral with said shaft 15. The upper end of the part 21 has grooves 30 intended to facilitate the gripping of < / B> this part to maneuver it.
The drum 16 and the part 21 each have a cylindrical part 43, on which the edges of the film rest. A FIG. 9 has been designated by P a film, seen in transverse section and bearing on the cylindrical parts 43. It can be seen that, in the case of FIG. 8 where the two parts of the debi tor are spaced apart from one another to the maximum to receive a 16 mm film, the latter being dragged is done by one of its two rows of perforations.
The change # from one to format to another, to switch from relief projection to plane projection, obviously involves a change in the format of the reels Or ', the reels that are found on the market for 16 mm and 8 mm formats are standardized and those of 8 mm have a hole circular central indentation on one of its cheeks, the indentation being intended to allow the reel to be driven, while the hole of the 16 mm reels is circular on a of the cheeks and square on the other. The diameters of the holes of the 8 mm coils and of the circular hole of the 16 mm coils are equal to the side of the square hole; of the 16 mm coil.
The headlamp shown in the drawing is provided with a device for driving the reels, which allows the standardized 16 mm and & mm reels to be driven without requiring any modification.
Fig. 10 shows in section one of the winding or unwinding reels with its drive device. The 31 reel is a reel for 16 mm films, intended for relief projection. A l at the end of the arm 4 is fixed a vertical axis 32, which carries at its base a ball bearing 33 </ B> on which is fixed a pulley with groove 34. The latter can be rotated by a belt 35 and has on its upper face a lining 36 in a material having a high coefficient of friction with metals.
A sleeve 37 carrying a disc 38 at its lower end is mounted to pivot around the axis 32. The disc Ô8 </ B> is in contact by its lower face with the lining 36 of the pulley U while its upper face carries a lining 39 presenting a higher coefficient of friction than that of the 36. lining. This lining 39 is in contact with the cheek of the coil 31 which simply rests on this disc Ô8. The latter is held axially in position against the lining of the pulley 34 by a spring 40 bearing, on the one hand,
by means of a washer 41 against an internal shoulder of the sleeve 37 and, on the other hand, against a screw 42 fixed to the end of the axis 32. The sleeve Ô7 does not have any drive means for the hub of the coil 31. The adhesion between the cheek of the reel and the 39 lining is sufficient so that, during the winding or unwinding of the film on the reel, practically no angular displacement occurs between the disc 38 </ B> and the coil, all the front friction takes place between the lining 36 and the disc 38. As the pressure between the latter and! A lining-Read 36 of the pulley 34 increases at the same time as the weight of the reel 31,
the driving torque of the latter varies with the length of the film wound on the reel, so that the tension exerted on the latter remains approximately the same, from the beginning to the end of the winding. Due to the fact that the 31 spool is not driven by its hub, it is possible to use hub spools of any profile, including standard spools for films in the 16 and 8 mm, those of the latter format being used for the half-16 format.
When you want to switch from relief projection to plane projection, it suffices to close the projection window 6 and manually move the two tenons < B> 9 and the three debtors 1, 2 and 3 to adapt them to the new width of the film.
The projector described above allows the projection of 16 mm films in relief or the planar projection of half-16 films. We thus have the possibility of doubling the capacity of the film of 16 mm while restricting ourselves to the plane projection, while obtaining an image at pen nearly twice as large as the image obtained with 8 mm vertical displacement films. In addition, for the sound film, the sound quality can be improved, because we have, for the same projection rate, an unwinding speed two times greater than with ordinary films of format 8 mm.
Of course, many modifications could be made to the apparatus described above. One could, for example, fix the stud 9 on a slide or eccentrically on a moving part in rotation. The guide member could also include a removable part capable of being fixed at will on one of two elements for fixing a fixed part. , spaced vertically by a distance corresponding to the difference in width of the films to to be projected.
The grooves 23 and 24 of the debtors could also be provided in the bore 22 of the part 21, at least one element subjected to an elastic action to cooperate with these grooves being then provided on the socket 19.
It is obvious that the projector comprising the lateral guide members and those contributing to the unwinding and to the driving of the film, described above, could comprise, as a variant, known optical means allowing the plane projection of films of the 16 mm format, whether the latter are impressed, during the shooting, by horizontal or vertical displacement.
