Washing machine. The present invention relates to a washing machine, comprising a boiler with a removable cover, characterized in that this boiler is provided at the top (its inner wall with supports each having a threaded blind hole, in which this screwed a screw finned, and in that an independent element of the boiler is arranged in the center of the latter, the key height of this element being less than the interior height of the.
boiler, the upper part of this element being closed with the exception of a tapped hole, into which is screwed a screw provided with a cap and having in its thread at least one longitudinal groove, a grid being freely arranged clans the boiler and prevented from rising above the level of said supports by said thumb screws.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, several embodiments of the washing machine according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of the first embodiment, at the moment when washing begins.
Fig. 2 is a section corresponding to that of FIG. 1, during washing.
Fig. 3 represents the second embodiment.
Fig. 4 shows a variant of an element used in the. machine.
The f'ig. 5 is another variant in the form of a coil which may possibly be used as a replacement for the element shown in FIGS. 1 to 4.
Fig. 6 is a vertical section of the washing machine comprising the element illustrated at fi ,. 5.
Fig. 7 is a detail of the head of the element.
Fig. 8 is a variant of this head. In all these figures the same references indicate equal or corresponding parts.
The washing machine shown in the drawing comprises a boiler 1 provided with a removable cover 2. This boiler 1 serves as a container for the laundry to be cleaned. In the center of this boiler is an independent element which, in the forms of execution shown in figs. 1 to 4, has the shape of an inverted funnel 3. This element 3 is placed freely in the center of the boiler 1 , and its height is less than the interior height of the boiler 1. The upper end 4 of this element 3 is closed (fig. 7), except for a central threaded opening in which a screw is screwed. 5 fitted with a cap 6.
The screw 5 has a groove 7 in its thread which opens downwards in the lateral direction (fig.7); this groove 7 can also increase in depth, as shown in FIG. 8; the purpose of this rai nure will be given later. Instead of a single groove 7, the screw could have several, for example two diametrically opposed. The height of the element 3 in the form of an inverted funnel including the. screw 5 provided with the cap 6, is such that there remains between the cha skin 6 and the inside of the cover 2 still a certain free space, as is apparent from Figs. 1, 3 and 6.
The boiler 1 is provided, on two opposite interior sides and at a height slightly lower than the upper end 4 of the element 3, with supports 8 fixed to the interior wall of the boiler and each having a threaded blind hole intended to receive a wing screw 9.
The washing machine shown further comprises a grid 10, which will be arranged, before washing, below the supports 8, but above the laundry in the position shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 6.
In the embodiment of FIG. 3, the boiler 1 also has supports 11 intended to hold a second grid 12 at a certain space from the bottom 13 of the boiler 1. It should be noted that this second grid 12 is not absolutely necessary for the correct operation of the boiler. the machine; however, it is of some use in case the. The machine is loaded with a lot of laundry because it will then prevent laundry from passing below the lower edge 14 of the element 3, when the latter is lifted, during washing, as described later.
This lower edge 14 of the element 3 can have a completely uniform, smooth surface (fig. 1 to 3), but preferably this edge is. provided with incisions 15 (fig. 4) facilitating the circulation of water.
It is not absolutely necessary that the element 3 placed in the center of the boiler 1 has the shape of an inverted funnel shown in figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4. It may have any other shape whose diameter at the base is greater than the diameter of the upper part. For example, it could have the shape of a bell extended upwards. However, preference is given to. shape of an inverted black enton, because the upper part occupies, in this shape, little space.
Another form of the element 3, occupying even less space, is shown in Figs. 5 and 6. In this variant, said element is constituted by a tube in the form of a coil 16, the last inner coil 17 of which is extended by an ascending tube. 18 also closed at the upper end 4 and provided with the same threaded perforation as the element of Figs. 1 to 4. In this perforation is also screwed a screw 5 provided with the cap 6 and carrying a groove 7.
The lower end 19 of the coil 16 is open and the coils of the coil have openings 20 intended to increase the intense circulation of water.
The operation. of the washing machine described is as follows: First, the boiler 1 is filled to a third of a mixture 21 of water and its von in the usual proportions. Next, element 3 is introduced into the boiler first and then the soiled laundry 22 which will swim on the liquid 21. Care will be taken not to overfill the boiler with soiled laundry. The grid 10 is then placed above the laundry and this grid 10 is prevented from rising above the level of the supports 8 by screwing the wing screws 9 into the threaded holes of the supports.
If this has not been done before, we screw now. on the element. 3 the. screw 5 provided with the cap 6, taking care to increase the introduction of this screw 5 of the Tacon to obtain, subsequently, an intensity of evaporation through the groove or the grooves 7, to the appropriate extent for a good vage. As is clear. of fig. 7 and 8, the more we introduce the screw 5 in the. perforation practiced on the. head 4 (the element. 3, the more the passage offered by the steam groove is reduced.
Now all you have to do is put the cover 2 on the. boiler 1 and to place the machine on a stove, the fire 23 of which will preferably be limited to the middle of the boiler, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, so that the fire is concentrated below the element. 3. The water in element 3 is quickly heated and turns into steam, a small part of which will escape. through the groove 7 and will fill with steam the upper empty space 24 between the grate 10 and the cover 2. However, most of the steam remains in the element 3 and lifts the latter, as shown. in fig. 2.
This allows the steam to escape under the lower edge 14 of the element 3 and at the same time less hot water to penetrate the interior of the element when the latter falls back into position again. on the inside of the bottom 13 of the boiler 1.
This upward and downward movement of the element 3, which is also obtained with the serpentine element 16 if this is used instead of the inverted black enton element, is repeated throughout the cooking of the dirty laundry, which is thus traversed .con tinually, on the one hand, by ascending steam which lifts and presses the soiled laundry against the grid 10 and; on the other hand, by a downward counter-current of water which has lost its heat and which carries the dirty laundry downwards.
This continuous and intense coming and going of steam and water through the linen 22 and the state of agitation which is thus produced in the boiler 1, are amply sufficient, as practical tests have proved, for clean the laundry in a very short time, however dirty it may be when it is placed in the boiler.
