Device for cleaning a thread and for removing buttons from it
The present invention relates to a device for cleaning a thread and for removing therefrom buttons, excess thicknesses, tufts and other irregularities in the thickness of the threads. By cleaning is meant the elimination of lint, particles of soil and other foreign bodies found therein.
In the present description, the expression yarn is used in a general sense to denote any textile material with a reduced section, whether natural or synthetic.
The device which is the object of the present invention is characterized in that it comprises a fixed support part intended to support a wire which moves transversely on it, a member mounted so as to be able to slide relative to the aforementioned part. by approaching or moving away from the latter, means capable of being controlled by hand to slide said member and to adjust it relative to said support piece, a scraper blade mounted, so as to be able to pivot, on said sliding member, and a spring acting so as to normally hold the scraper blade against the sliding member, its lower edge being opposite the bearing part so that a slot is formed between said edge and the support piece.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the invention.

As is common practice for the inspection and cleaning of the yarn when it is fed to a winder or other textile machine, the device shown for cleaning a yarn is supported by a bracket 2 combined with a device. tensioner 3 of known type, such as that shown in FIG. 2. The console 2 has a mounting for a pivot pin 4 on which are mounted, so as to be able to turn, two concavo-convex tension discs 5 with a weight 6 to apply pressure on them.
The discs 5 exert pressure on the yarn y to oppose its passage through the tensioning device and thus to apply tension to it. The console 2 has at one end an inclined part 7 with an opening directed inwards to guide the yarn to the tensioning discs 5. This part of the support is not shown in detail, because it is of usual construction. A bracket 8 formed of a metal wire is mounted on the console 2 to direct the wire y between the tensioning discs when the device is threaded.
The cleaning device is fixed on a support 10 separate from the console 2, but fixed to the latter by means of screws 11 passing through holes drilled in the rear cross member 12 of the console 2. The support 10 comprises a transverse arm 14 supporting an anvil 15 for supporting the wire, made of sheet metal bent at right angles to form a flange 16 covering the top of the transverse arm 14 and having a smooth upper face for the yarn which is drawn across said face. The anvil 15 is fixed to the transverse arm 14 by screws 17. One end of the transverse arm 14 of the support 10 has a vertical arm 18 bent at a suitable angle so that its upper part 19 is inclined rearwardly. from the vertical.
On the upper part 19 of the arm 18 of the support 10 is mounted a rectangular sheet 20 plate (see fig. 1, 3, 4 and 5) having a side part 21 fixed to the arm by bolts 22. The plate 20 is folded back to right angles along two of its edges to form a rearwardly projecting flange with part 24 overhanging its top edge, and part 25 extending along its vertical edge. The plate 20 plays a dual role: it serves as a mounting and a cover for the operating parts of the cleaning device, the side rim 25 forming a guide surface for a blade holder 30 which will be described below. In the upper part of the plate 20 is made a narrow horizontal slot 31 and, in the center of the plate, the metal is stamped to form a housing 33 (see fig. 5).
The blade holder 30 is constituted by a substantially rectangular plate capable of sliding with relatively little play between the machined edge of the upper part 19 of the arm 18 and the internal surface of the side rim 25 of the plate 20. The upper part of the door blade 30 is extended by a threaded central rod 35 to be screwed into the threaded bore of a hub 40 a 'flange 41, force-fitted into a disc 36, the flange 41 resting on its lower surface. The disc 36 serves as a manual adjustment member to slide the blade holder up or down on the plate 20; it is preferably made of colored plastic and it bears markings on its upper face.
Thanks to this arrangement, the adjustment disc 36 is mounted so as to be able to rotate in the slot 31 of the plate 20 with the upper face of its hub 40 in engagement with the upper edge of the slot, the flange 41 bearing against the lower edge of the slot.
A flat double loop spring 45 is arranged with its branches engaged under the horizontal part 24 of the projecting part of the plate 20, while the lower part of the spring comes into contact with the end of the threaded rod 35 to exert on it. a pressure opposing the vertical sliding movement of the blade holder 30. The upper face of the disc 36 is divided in degrees by graduations traced on its circumference and designated by the numbers 0, 2, 4, 6, etc., up to 'to 30. An index 46 protrudes from the rear face of an auxiliary cover plate 47 to cooperate with the graduations of the disc 36 when the latter is rotated by hand to slide the blade holder 30 upwards or down.
The index 46 can be cut from the sheet metal plate 47 which covers
The rear of the blade holder 30 and is fixed to the upper part 19 of the arm 18 by nuts 48 screwed on the bolts 22 mentioned above, and which can be seen in FIG. 2.
A lower part of the plate 47 is offset outward and extends downwardly behind the blade holder 30, as seen in FIG. 5.
The blade holder 30 is provided, near its top, with two rivets 49 having relatively thin heads covering the offset part of the plate 47 and serving to pivotally mount the scraper blade 50 to the rear of the blade holder. . The scraper blade 50 is held with its upper edge in contact with the projecting shanks of the rivets 49, under their heads, by a spring 55 which can be seen more clearly in FIG. 5. In the blade holder 30 is formed a triangular opening 52 extending over part of its height and having a rectangular central part 64 extending downward from its upper edge. The tension spring 55 passes through the opening 52 to normally hold the scraper blade 50 flat against the rear face of the blade holder.
The upper end of the spring 55 is fixed to a hook 56 formed by a strip of bent sheet metal, fixed to the blade holder 30 by a rivet 57 (see FIG. 3). The angled part of the hook 56 passes through the opening 52 and rests against the underside of said central part 64. The free end of the hook 56 is thus located inside the housing 33 of the plate 20.
It can be seen in the perspective view on a larger scale of FIG. 7 that the horizontal part of the angled part 56 is stamped to form a boss 58 projecting upwards and intended to hook onto the upper turns of the spring 55 to fix it on it.
The lower end of the spring 55 is in the form of a hook engaging two holes 59 drilled in the scraper blade 50 and, thanks to this arrangement, the spring keeps the blade with its upper edge in contact with the rivets 49 similar to buttons on the blade holder. Thanks to the relationship thus established between the fixing of the spring 55 and its connection to the blade 50, the spring normally tends to hold the blade flat against the rear face of the blade holder 30. The upper part of the scraper blade 50 is finds a grooved protrusion 60 to fit over the sides of the hook 56 and to determine the position of the blade, in the lateral direction, on the rear face of the blade holder.
The tension of the spring 55 can be adjusted by detaching its end from the hook 56 and re-attaching it to the latter, leaving any suitable number of turns of the spring over the end of the hook, so as to increase or decrease its useful length.
The lower part of the blade holder 30 carries a head screw 61 whose body passes through a slot 62 of the plate 20; this screw is loosened to release the blade holder for its adjustment and it is then tightened to fix the elements in the relative adjustment position.
The operating mode of the device described is as follows. The device is adjusted so that the scraper blade 50 has its edge spaced from the upper face of the anvil 15 in order to leave between these parts a slot whose width depends on the thickness or size of the wire to be cleaned. The adjustment is carried out by turning the dial 36 by hand to raise or lower the blade holder 30, depending on whether the disc is rotated clockwise or counterclockwise, respectively, with respect to fig. 4. The screw connection between the bore of the hub 40 of the disc 36 and the rod 35 of the blade holder 50 thus gives rise to the raising or lowering of the blade holder, this adjustment being made with the locking screw 61 loosened.
It is thus possible to determine, with great precision, the position of the scraper blade 50 in order to obtain a precise adjustment of its lower edge relative to the anvil 15, and that according to the different sizes of wire to be cleaned in the device. After the scraper blade 50 has been precisely positioned by the micrometric adjustment device, the locking screw 61 is tightened to firmly bind the blade holder 30 to the plate 20 so as to prevent accidental or unjustified displacement of the holder. blade and improper scraper blade adjustment.
When the device is used in conjunction with a tensioning device, as shown in FIG. 2, the wire is threaded in its place between the tension discs 5 in the manner previously described, then introduced through the cleaning device: for this purpose, it is pulled through the horizontal face of the anvil 15 by the opening between the edge of the scraper blade 50 and the anvil. When the device is prepared to operate in the manner set forth, the yarn can be collected by some collecting device, such as the rotating spindle of a winder, and the pull exerted on the yarn causes it to pass through the device. tension, then along the anvil 15 under the edge of the scraper blade 50.
During the passage of the thread through the cleaning device, any loose lint, particles of soil or other foreign matter are scraped off and detached from the thread and, when a button or other part of a larger diameter is present on the thread and cannot be detached therefrom by scraping, the device acts to cause the wire to break, thereby removing the button or other similar irregularity.
When the button, or other irregularity, hits the edge of the scraper blade 50, the latter is pushed back against the opposing tension of the spring 55, which forces its edge to strike the surface of the anvil. 15 and thus produces wire breakage. It is then possible to eliminate the imperfection of the thread and to join the ends of the latter in accordance with the usual practice. After the button has been removed and the ends of the wire have been brought together, the wire is threaded again into the space between the edge of the blade 50 and the surface of the anvil 15 to continue working in the same way. previously explained, the blade being returned to its initial position, flat against the rear face of the blade holder 30, and held in this position by the tension of the spring 55.
It has been explained that it is possible to adjust the tension of the spring 55 to oppose a greater or lesser resistance to the oscillating movement of the scraper blade 50 when its edge meets a button or other irregularity which cannot be detached from the wire. Usually, with delicate and fine materials, the spring 55 is adjusted to apply only a very slight tension to the blade 50 so that the operation of the latter is done in a sensitive manner in response to the action of the irregularity. ; on the other hand, with larger threads, it may be necessary to adjust the spring so that it exerts a higher tension on the blade to prevent abnormal movement of the latter caused by the friction of the thread moving along the edge. of the blade.
The lower edge of the scraper blade 50 may be bevelled or chamfered, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 5 in other cases, it can be serrated as shown in fig. 6, forming a series of fine teeth making it more effective when acting to break the wire or when it encounters an irregularity thereof.
It follows from the above description that the cleaning device shown and described is very simple and very practical, this device being designed to allow precise adjustment between the edge of the scraper blade and the surface of the anvil; moreover, in this device, the degree of adjustment is indicated in a visible manner by the graduations of the rotary dial 36.
It follows that in this way a great convenience of adjustment and great precision in the positioning of the scraper blade are obtained.
