 la fig. 2 est une vue de côté de cette section de guide d'ondes;
 la fig. 3 est une vue en coupe faite suivant
A-A de la fig. 2;
 la fig. 4 montre une vue en coupe faite suivant B-B de la fig. 2;

  Waveguide including a device for measuring the power transmitted in this guide
 The present invention relates to a waveguide comprising a device for measuring the power transmitted in this guide.

   The power transmitted in a waveguide is generally measured by deriving a small part of this power by means of a probe or a loop inserted in the guide and by rectifying the current thus obtained by means of a crystal rectifier. . The rectified current is applied to a measuring or indicating device of a suitable type, from which it can be determined whether there is power transmitted in the guide or whether it varies. If the instrument is properly calibrated, it can be used to measure the power transmitted by the guide. This method of taking power has drawbacks in that the probe does not have a uniform response at all frequencies and the results are not accurate when the guide transmits a wide band of frequencies.

   The object of the present invention is to overcome these drawbacks. The waveguide according to the invention is characterized by a circular opening cut in a wall of the guide, in that it comprises a rectifier connected diametrically across the opening, on the outside of the guide, and arranged in so that the line connecting its connection points is parallel to the electric lines of force in the guide.

   When using a rectangular waveguide, the opening is preferably cut from one of the narrowest walls of the guide.

   The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the waveguide object of the present invention.

   Fig. 1 is a top view of a rectangular waveguide section provided with a rectifier arranged to allow measurement of the power transmitted in the guide
 fig. 2 is a side view of this waveguide section;
 fig. 3 is a sectional view taken according to
A-A of fig. 2;
 fig. 4 shows a sectional view taken along B-B of FIG. 2;
 fig. 5 is an enlarged view of said rectifier and its connection device.

   The waveguide section 1 is provided with two customary flanges 2 and 3 by means of which it can be attached to other waveguide sections which are not shown.

   As shown in fig. 3, an opening 4 is provided which is circular and which is cut in one of the narrow walls of the waveguide section. A crystal rectifier 5 is placed inside a metal box 6 in which is drilled a cylindrical hole 7 having the same axis as the opening 4. The hole 7 is closed by a metal plate 8.

   The rectifier 5 is shown on a larger scale in FIG. 5 and it is formed by a cylindrical cartridge 9 of insulating material surrounding a crystal (which is not shown) and having, at one end, a metal terminal 10 to which the finder (which is not shown) is connected and , at the other end, a cylindrical metal terminal 11, on which the crystal is mounted. A cylindrical hole is drilled in the upper wall of the box 6 (fig. 3); it is in this that the metal terminal 10 engages; a thin tube 12 of insulating material is inserted so as to isolate terminal 10 of box 6 from the point of view of direct currents and to provide capacitive coupling for high frequency currents.

   A connection pin 13 (fig. 3 and 5) is provided to receive the cylindrical terminal 1 1; it comprises a metal head 14, which is screwed into the lower part of the box 6, and metal contact springs 15 fixed to the head 14 and which form a kind of socket in which the cylindrical terminal 1 1 engages for make electrical contact.

   The connection for direct current is made, from terminal 10, by a spring 16 (fig. 2), mounted between two washers on a screw 17 which passes through a hole provided in an insulating block 18 (which can be seen better in fig. 1), mounted on the side of the metal box 6. The screw 17 is fixed by a nut 19 (fig. 2) at its lower end and a second nut 20 and a pair of washers 21 allowing it connect a connecting wire (which is not shown).

   The diameter of the cylindrical cavity 7 should be such that it functions as a cylindrical guide section whose cutoff frequency is above the frequency band transmitted in the waveguide section.

  With this arrangement, if a DC meter (which is not shown) is connected between screw 17 and the waveguide wall, there is a nearly constant relationship between the meter reading. measurement and the power transmitted in the waveguide, over a wide frequency band, due to the fact that the characteristics as a function of the frequency of the rectifier and of the cavity 7 have opposite slopes and that it is arranged so that they compensate for each other.

   It should be added that the closure plate 8 is not essential and can be omitted since practically very little energy is transmitted through the hole 4 in the box 6.

     It is clear that instead of having a rectangular waveguide, it is possible to have waveguides having sections of different shapes, for example circular waveguides.

     It is only necessary to cut a circular opening in the wall of the guide, as has been described, and to connect a rectifier, diametrically, to the outside of the guide, so that the line connecting the connection points is parallel to the lines. strength of the electric field in the guide.
