Description

  La montre représentée comprend enfin un  chronomètre totalisateur     entraîné    par le mou  vement principal de la montre, mais dont la  marche ne trouble pas celle des aiguilles     GMT.     Ce chronomètre permet d'effectuer des mesu  res de temps sans quitter des yeux le cadran  indiquant l'heure     GMT.    Il permet en particu  lier     d'effectuer    les différentes mesures des  écarts de temps, dont tout particulièrement le  navigateur aérien a sans cesse besoin, par  exemple mesure du temps de passage dans le  plan vertical, à l'aide du chronomètre et du     dé-          rivomètre    ; dans le plan horizontal, à l'aide du  chronomètre et du goniomètre ;

      Watch The object of the present invention is a watch for use by sailors, in particular aviators.

  During their travels, mariners are continually forced to adjust their watches. Indeed, if GMT time is universally accepted as a basis for navigation, the local time which varies with the longitude of the stopover is of practical importance. The need to always take these two time scales into account, and the calculations that this may require, constitute a daily concern for the navigator and a source of possible errors. However, existing watches have proved impractical for navigation and especially for aviation where the high speed of movement requires extremely frequent adjustments and measurements.

  The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. The watch which is the subject thereof is characterized in that it is equipped with hands intended to indicate the GMT time as well as the local time, and in that it comprises means arranged so as to allow adjustment. independent of the hands indicating the said two hours.

  The appended drawing illustrates, by way of example, two embodiments of the watch according to the invention, FIGS. 1 and 2 being plan views each representing one of these embodiments.

  The watch shown in FIG. 1 comprises a GMT hour hand H, making one revolution in 24 hours, and a corresponding minute hand M, making one revolution in one hour.

  These H and M hands can be made luminous in order to allow reading at night. Their position can be adjusted by a button a, which serves both to wind the watch. It also includes an independent seconds hand moving in front of a graduated dial f. A pusher d stops this second hand, resets it to zero, and starts it again. In other words, this pusher d enables the time of the watch to be set to the second; all you have to do is stop the GMT seconds hand, bring it to zero and wait for the hourly signal before restarting it.

  A second L hour hand, driven by the same movement as the first, indicates local time; it also makes one revolution in 24 hours and it moves in front of the same dial. In order to be distinguished from the H needle, this L needle has a different shape than the H needle and it is colored differently.

  A button b makes it possible to adjust the position of the needle L independently of the other needles. In other words, the watch can be set to the local time of the place where its wearer is, without moving the parts indicating the GMT time. The navigator who enters a new terminal can therefore set his watch to the time of the country in which he is located, simply by reading the first clock he sees, without having to touch GMT, that he must always be able to consult for astronomical calculations and the execution of schedules.

  Instead of the watch face showing a 24-hour revolution, it could also have a 12-hour revolution, with the H and L hands then making a full revolution. 12 hours ; however, the chart shown avoids possible 12-hour errors with large lengths.

  The watch shown finally comprises a totalizing chronometer driven by the main movement of the watch, but the rate of which does not interfere with that of the GMT hands. This stopwatch allows you to take time measurements without taking your eyes off the dial indicating the GMT time. In particular, it makes it possible to carry out the various measurements of the time deviations, which in particular the air navigator constantly needs, for example measurement of the passage time in the vertical plane, using the chronometer and the de-rivometer. ; in the horizontal plane, using the chronometer and the goniometer;

   recognition of lighthouses by measuring their period; measurement of time differences in landing procedures etc ...

  For this purpose, this chronometer includes a second hand, which moves in front of a graduated dial bearing the digits of ten in ten seconds. The totalizer of this chrono meter moves in leaps, showing the figure of the last minute elapsed in an aperture g. An independent button c performs the three chrono meter control operations: starting, stopping at any position, return to zero.

  While this first form of execution allows exact local time setting only in cases where this local time differs by a whole number of hours from GMT time, the watch according to the second form of execution (fig. 2) allows an exact local time setting also in cases where this local time does not differ from a whole number of hours from GMT time.

  For this purpose, the watch of FIG. 2 includes, in addition to the dials, needles and control members described with reference to FIG. 1, a rotating bezel i, graduated in minutes, which it suffices to bring relative to the watch into the angular position in which the needle M indicates the minute of local time on this bezel.

  Instead of this rotating bezel i, or one hand or the other, this watch could also feature mobile dials.
