Description

  U filtering process
The present invention relates to a filtering method.

The method according to the intention is characterized in that filterable material containing a liquid and non-filterable solids is pumped through a supply line into at least one chamber having at least one filtering orifice, part of the filter. liquid being immediately discharged through the filter orifice, so that a semi-solid cake is formed, after which the pumping is stopped and the interior of the chamber is subjected to a pressure greater than the pumping pressure so as to thus cause the exit of the residual liquid and the compression of the cake, a part of the solids tending to be pushed back inside the supply pipe where it forms a plug of agglutinated material intended to close this pipe .

The attached drawing illustrates the process and represents, by way of example, a filter press for carrying out this process, which will be described by way of example only.

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a horizontal filter press with partial cutaway and partial section,
fig. 2 shows a filter press plate,
fig. 3 shows a plate of the filter press,
fig. 4 shows a ring of the filter press,
fig. 5 represents a stock of the filter press,
fig. 6 represents, on a larger scale, a plateau,
fig. 7 is a sectional view taken along line 7-7 of FIG. 6,
fig. 7a is, on a larger scale, a vertical sectional view of the plug,
fig. 8 is, on a larger scale, a sectional view along the line 8-8 of FIG. 6, and
fig. 8a shows, on a larger scale, a detail of FIG. 7.

The horizontal filter press shown comprises two fixed supports, namely a plate or resistance head 20 and a plate or plunger head 21, these heads being connected to each other by four tie rods of square section 22, which are threaded at their ends and carry nuts 23, as shown in fig. 1. The plunger head 21 internally has a cylindrical chamber 24; it carries a stuffing gland 25 and it is intended to receive a plunger 26.

The chamber 24 is connected at 27 to a hydraulic mechanism (not shown), with the aid of which oil can be forced inside the plunger head under a high pressure (for example of the order of 420 kg / cm2). The cylindrical part of the plunger 26 which is able to move in the cylinder 24 is fixed to a butt plate 28 (FIG. 5) hereinafter called a butt, using bolts 28a engaged in holes 28b.

Between the stick 28 and the resistance head 20, the filter press shown has twelve chambers, which are all identical, with the exception, however, of the terminal chambers.

On the face of the stick 28 which is opposite the plunger, this stick is fixed to the first of thirteen pressure plates 29, which are all identical and have been designated by 29a to 29m in FIG. 1, this fixing being effected by means of screws 30 which pass through threaded holes 32 of the plate 29a (FIG. 7). The stick 28 is provided with a centering boss 28 'intended to be engaged in a central hole 29' of the plate and thus to help ensure the alignment of the parts (FIG. 7).

Before securing the extreme right plate 29a to the butt 28, it is fixed to one of twelve pistons 33 (designated by 33a) by screws 34 which pass through enlarged holes 35 of the plate 29a and are screwed into holes threaded 36 in the rear face of the piston (see fig. 7). The pistons are provided with centering bosses 33 'intended to penetrate into the holes 29' of the plates.

The pistons 33 carry on their front face, or on the left, filters 38. These filters are fixed by means of screws 39 passing through holes 40 formed in the plates 41 and screwed into the pistons, at 42, the parts being centered. by bosses and recesses, as indicated at 41 'in FIG. 7.

The other plates 29b to 29m carry on their right side (facing the plunger) identical filters, which are fixed to these plates by similar screws 39, screwed into holes 32. The last plate 29m is fixed to the head of resistance by another group of screws 34, indicated at the top and on the left, in fig. 1.

It can thus be seen that with the exception of the ends, the intermediate plates 29b to 291 carry, on one of their faces, a piston 33 and a filter 38, and on the other face, a filter 38. Each of the plates has a steam duct shown in dotted lines at 43 in fig. 2 so that the rooms can be heated from both sides.

Peripheral annular members 45 (the outline of which is shown in FIG. 4 and which are also called rings forming chambers) are arranged between the adjacent plates 29 and intended to be fitted either around the filters 38, when they occupy the position of. closure of the chambers, which is that of FIGS. 1, 2, or around the pistons 33, as shown in FIG. 3. Twelve of these rings are provided in the construction shown and are designated 45a and 451.

The stick 28, the pressure plates 29 and the rings 45 are provided with bearings, indicated respectively at 46, 47 and 48 in FIGS. 5, 2 and 4, which rest on guides 50 and 51 (in fig. 6 only guides 51 are visible, guides 50 are arranged symmetrically with respect to plates 24) carried by lower bracing members or tie rods 22 The plates 29 are pierced with four holes 52 at the four angles, respectively, each hole being surrounded by an annular recess 53. The rings 45 are provided with ears 54 which are recessed internally, at 55 (fig. 4), and of which the spacing is the same as that of the holes 52 of the tray. The stick 28 (FIG. 5) has four holes 56 arranged in a similar fashion, but of smaller diameter.

The resistance head 20 carries four studs 57 screwed into this head and provided with enlargements 58 (FIG. 1) passing through the holes 52 of the adjacent pressure plate 29m. Each of the other plates 29 carries sockets 59, the spacing of which is the same as that of the holes 52.

The sockets 59 have one end of reduced diameter. The sockets 59 receive bolts 64, provided with heads 65 (fig. 6) and screwed into threaded sockets 62 (fig. 1). The butt 28 is connected to the sockets 62 of the adjacent plate by similar bolts, 64a, housed in the holes 56, so that four like chains of elements connect the plunger 26 to the resistance head and to each of the plates. pressers.

Coil springs 66 are arranged in the recesses 53 of the plates and bear against interior edges formed at the bottom of the recesses 55 of the peripheral rings 45.

During assembly, these springs are subjected to an initial compression. Each group of springs relating to a peripheral ring acts so as to push this ring towards the plate which is to its left, so as to place said ring in its position for closing the chamber, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 7. The fulcrum of each spring is on the plate located to the right of the chamber in which the spring in question is placed. This plate pushes the corresponding piston so as to force the filters to separate. Thanks to the cumulative action of the springs, it is certain that all the peripheral rings will occupy the closed position of the chambers, that the walls of the chambers will be separated from each other and that the plunger 26 will be pushed towards the bottom of its cylinder 24.

The movement is controlled by the mechanism comprising the bushings 59 and the bolts 64. This plunger 26 is stopped by its stop against the end wall of this cylinder 24. When oil is introduced under pressure into the cylinder 24, the piston 26, the heads with sticks, the plates and the pistons proceed to filtering and the formation of cake C.

The ring return mechanism is mounted at the front and rear of the machine and at the center line of the filter press.

The rings 45 are provided with two forked ears 67 which are diametrically opposed, as shown in FIG. 4. The cylinder 24 carries hydraulic cylinders 68. The resistance head 20 carries guide cylinders 69, located at the same level. The hydraulic cylinders 68 contain pistons 70 which are actuated hydraulically from left to right (fig. 1), when the supply of oil into cylinder 24 is interrupted, these pistons being connected to rods 71 passing through guide bearings 72 mounted in openings 73 of the butt 28. The rods 71 are axially drilled and threaded, as indicated at 74, to receive the ends, of reduced diameter and threaded, of shafts 75.

These shafts are of sufficient length to terminate at the resistance head and enter the guide cylinders 69. Near the right end (fig. 1), each of the shafts 75 has a collar 76, and collars 88a to 881 cooperating with the split ends 67a, etc ...

When the springs 66 have brought the rings 45 to the closed position of the chambers (shown in Fig. 1), the ears 67a to 671 contact the corresponding collars 88a to 881 of the shafts 75, so that when the piston plunger 26 is moved to the left, the ears 67 move the shafts 75 also to the left, these shafts pulling the piston rods 71 and the pistons 70 to the left.

All the chambers are simultaneously shortened under the thrust of the plunger 26.

The pieces are moved in some way. sort like an accordion or a camera bellows and occupy the position of FIG. 7.

As soon as the thrust of the plunger 26 ceases to be exerted, the springs 66 act in such a way as to widen the assembly, moving the various parts so that they occupy the position of FIG. 1. This movement causes the displacement of each of the pistons and filters from the closed position shown in FIG. 6, where this assembly is placed against the cake C, to the position where said assembly pulls the right-hand filter 38 (carried by the piston 33) away from the cake C.

When liquid under pressure is admitted through openings 68a at the left end of cylinders 68, pistons 70 and collars 88a, 88b, etc ... are moved to the right, they move the butt 28 and the rings 45 of so as to open the chambers (fig. 7, dotted line).

Each of the pressure plates 29 has a threaded intake orifice 89 from which extends obliquely downwards a drilled duct 90 leading to the central opening 29 'which, facing the duct 90, has an assembly groove 91 (fig. . 2). The central openings 29 'are arranged so as to receive shutters 92 provided with keys 93 and having bent conduits 94 (FIG. 7) communicating with the drilled conduit 90.

Each of the filter holder plates 41 has on its rear face annular grooves 99 (FIGS. 7 and 8) constituting conduits, and also has radial grooves 100 which communicate with bores 101 in turn communicating with annular grooves 102 formed. on the front side of the plate. The outer annular groove 99 formed in the rear face of the plate 41 allows the liquid flowing in said groove to descend by gravity into bores 103 and 104 of the pressure plate and of the piston, respectively, as shown more clearly in FIG. 8.

The front face of each of the plates 41 has flat annular peripheral 105 and central 106 surfaces arranged in the same plane. On the outside of the flat surface 105 is disposed a bevelled surface 107, and inside the surface 106 is provided another bevelled surface 108. A spacer 109 in the form of a screen made of metal wires. crossing, which screen is rolled relatively coarse and flattened, is engaged in a depression 110 formed on the front face and going from one to the other of the flat surfaces 105, 106. A filter screen 111 (fig. 8), made of fine wire, and a backing plate 112, of perforated sheet metal, are provided with tapered flanges around the periphery and near the center, as shown at 113 and 114 (fig. 8 and 8a) so as to fit around bevelled surfaces 107 and 108.

They are welded to each other. A 115 ring held by screws
 116 fixes the filter screen.

The inner edges of the filter screens fixed to the plates 41 carried by the pressure plates 29b to 29m are fixed by inlet nozzles 117 which are provided with a head
conical 118 and screwed into central holes
119 (fig. 7) of the plates 41, so that the drilled duct 90 communicates through the duct
elbow 94 with the chamber of the filter press.

Nozzle 117 is conically reamed, with a
low angle of coincidence, in 117a, and it is flared
at about 45 degrees in 117b. The sieves of
filters carried by the pistons are fixed by
threaded plugs 120. Instead of the material
to be filtered is admitted to the rooms by
 conduits communicating directly with the
pressure plate, it is obvious that the feed
could be carried out from a pressure plate via a piston and a nozzle.

The pumping operation fills all the chambers with filterable material, and a significant part of the liquid content is immediately forced back through the screens, so that semi-solid cakes are formed inside the chambers which fill them completely. The material feed pumps are then closed and a high pressure liquid is sent into the plunger cylinder. Due to its high pressure, which can be of the order of 420 dgcm2, this liquid forcefully pushes all the pistons, rings, plates and interposed parts towards the stationary elements carried by the head 20 of the filter press.

This shortens the chambers and causes the residual liquid contained in the cakes to be expelled through the screens and drainage channels. In addition, part of the solid material tends to be pushed back inside the nozzle 117, where it forms a plug of agglutinated material intended to seal the nozzle. This action is shown in fig. 7a by the density of the dotted areas. Some of the strongly compressed material in the chamber tends to escape as it passes back through the nozzle, but it meets the steeply inclined and finely polished surfaces 117b of the nozzle and gradually hardens until it forms a plug. tightly packed which is a definite barrier to any further flow. The plug thus formed behaves in the manner of a check valve.

It has at its inner end only a diameter of
Approx. 19 mm and breaks easily with the filter press open when the cake falls out.

It will be noted that the filters 38 are characterized by the absence of any protrusions liable to obstruct the lateral movement of the cake. When the initial separation takes place between the filter and the right side of the cake C, the latter has a smooth vertical surface free from constricted cavities; and when cake C separates from the left filter, it has a similar smooth surface, except for the plug of material which will be discussed later. These separation faces are vertical in horizontal filter presses. As soon as the rings 45 have been sufficiently moved to release the cakes, they fall from the machine onto a conveyor, inclined plane, chute or the like, without any hindrance or without it being necessary to impart to them a longitudinal movement whatever. whether.

This conformation of the face of the cakes makes it impossible to overload the machine to the point that the cake risks being too thick to be able to be released from holizontal protrusions.

The liquid expressed through the filter elements 38 enters the aligned holes (fig. 8) 103 and 104 of the pressure plates and the pistons and the liquid thus received flows into an outlet duct 121 leading to the lower end of the plate. presser. The various conduits 121 are connected by elbows 122 to a drainage pipe 123 which brings the expressed liquid to a collecting channel (not shown), disposed longitudinally in the machine.

The liquor is supplied by means of piping and pumps (not shown), supplying the trays (except the tray 29a) via pipes 138 connected to the orifice 89 (fig. 6).
