Method of magnetic piloting of miniature vehicles and device for implementing the method The present invention relates to a process of magnetic piloting of miniature vehicles, characterized in that the route to be followed by a vehicle is provided with at least one ferromagnetic track, magnetically coupled to a pilot magnet carried by said vehicle, the forces resulting from this coupling being transmitted to a device arranged so as to ensure the steering of the vehicle.
In the method according to the invention, the magnetic tracks can be composed of strips of ferromagnetic metal, fixed to the road. The pilot magnet can be forced to move, either on the axis of a single magnetic track, or between two magnetic tracks. In these two cases, the magnetic coupling forces between the magnet and the track decompose into active and inactive forces, the former, arising when the magnet deviates from the path assigned to it, are used. to the direct or in direct control of the vehicle steering.
The invention also refers to a positive device for implementing the method, characterized in that it comprises, guided by a magnetic track fixed to the road, a miniature vehicle equipped with a pilot magnet intended for control. from its direction, said magnetic track possibly comprising at least one remote-controlled fork in its course.
The appended drawing, given by way of example, represents an embodiment of the device according to the invention with a variant of the indirectly piloted management member, applied to a single magnetic track.
Fig. 1 is a schematic elevation view of the pilot magnet in a position of relative equilibrium with respect to a road with a single magnetic track, shown in section. Fig. 2 is a schematic elevation view, similar to FIG. 1, in which the road is double magnetic track.

Fig. 5 is a section taken along the line V-V of FIG. 4. FIG. 6 is an elevational view of a variant of the steering member of a miniature vehicle with indirect piloting applied to a single magnetic track. Fig. 7 is a cross section taken along the line VII-VII of FIG. 6.
Fig. 8 is an elevational view of the pilot mantle shown in FIG. 6.
Fig. 9 is a side view of FIG. 8. FIG. 10 is an elevational view of the front axle shown in FIG. 6.
Fig. 11 is a side view of the axle shown in FIG. 10.
In the embodiment shown, the device for implementing the method described comprises a single track road P (FIG. 1), the latter being composed of a strip of ferromagnetic metal. A pilot magnet A is moved on this track P, carried by a miniature vehicle, not shown in FIG. 1. The pilot magnet A pivots around the axis O controlling, directly or indirectly, the direction of the vehicle.
The torque, generated by the magnetic coupling and the reaction of the pivot O, causes the magnet to rotate to the right or to the left, depending on whether the vehicle is moving to the left, respectively to the right, of the magnetic track. .
The route followed by the miniature vehicle could also include a double magnetic track PI and P2, as shown in FIG. 2. The pilot magnet A would then be placed in a position of equilibrium in the middle of the two tracks PI and P2. In this case, the couple of forces, generated by the magnetic coupling and the reaction of the pivot, causes a rotation of the magnet to the right or to the left, depending on whether the vehicle is moving to the right or respectively to the left. of the magnetic strip.
The pole line of the pilot magnet may be perpendicular to the magnetic track, as shown in fia. 1 and 2, or parallel to it. The perpendicular direction however has advantages, in particular for the bifurcations, which can be provided by a simple electromagnet without the help of any mechanical device.
The direct control of the steering of the miniature vehicle by the active forces acting on the pilot magnet requires a reduction to a minimum of the friction forces, hence the interest of an indirect control which is not subject to this restriction. .
In this vein, the steering servomechanism of the miniature vehicle comprises two rollers g1 and g2 (fig. 3 to 5), rotating in the opposite direction, driven by the motor M of the vehicle. These rollers are carried by a caliper E, integral with the pilot magnet A and pivoting around the axis O. Depending on whether the pilot magnet is requested by a couple of forces rotating to the right or to the left, it is the roller left or right which drives the disc D controlling the direction of the vehicle via a pinion I and a rack J.
To allow the angular displacement of the caliper E, each of the rollers g1 and g2 is dragged by a transmission Tl, T2 respectively, constituted for example by flexible steel wires or by universal joints. . In the absence of any stress from the pilot magnet, the disk D returns to its middle position by the return force of the torsion wire F, one end of which is fixed and the other anchored to the 'axis O of disc D. The direction of rotation of the rollers, shown in fig. 4, corresponds to a road with a double magnet track. In the case of a single track, the direction of rotation of said rollers is reversed.
In a variant of the steering organ of the indirect piloting type, with a single magnetic track, the pilot magnet consists of a bar magnet C (fig. 6 to 11), held between the pole pieces M, M 'by an E-bar, in the shape of an inverted U, in non-magnetic metal. The windows L, respectively L ', made in the pole pieces and in the spacer E, are intended for the passage of the front axle of the vehicle, the axle which includes a rod B, of rectangular section, in non-magnetic metal, terminating in the fuses F. The front axle is secured to a box H, serving as a support for the pilot magnet and surmounted by a pivot P ' around which the management body can revolve.
A cylindrical guide G ensures the connection with the vehicle frame only in the longitudinal direction, so that the two front wheels are in permanent contact with the ground, even when the latter is not perfectly level. Rod T, cut from part H, is the point of attachment of a return spring R.
The pilot magnet is constantly maintained in the plane of the axis of the front wheels of the vehicle, driven indirectly by the engine, by means of a braking device made up of the slats DI and D2, replacing the role played by the rollers g1 and g2 of the described embodiment. A deviation of the vehicle, for example on the left of the magnetic track, causes the tilting to the right of the pilot magnet, the tip of which D2 bears on the right wheel. This results in a friction which results in a tangential force in contact with the ground, a force whose moment with respect to the pivot axis G-P '(fig. 7) brings the vehicle back onto the magnetic track.
This variant presents the advantage of greater simplicity of construction over the embodiment described. On the other hand, the articulation friction being reduced to a minimum, the same is true of the power absorbed to ensure the steering of the vehicle.
It would also be possible to control the management organ by driving it by means of an electromagnetic device, the excitation current of which is switched by the pilot magnet.
To initiate a bifurcation, it suffices to generate on the pilot magnet a pair of forces of direction suitable for engaging the vehicle on one or the other of the roads. The magnetic tracks, in the appropriate place, will therefore include a magnet with one of the poles facing upwards. Depending on whether this pole is north or south, the pilot magnet will be requested in one direction or the other.
Magnetic tracks allow, on the other hand, the use of magnetic coupling forces to ensure the adhesion of vehicles to the road. A magnet, not shown in the drawing, is fixed for this purpose, acting as an anti-slip device at the rear of the vehicle. The pole line of this magnet will preferably be parallel to the direction of movement of the vehicle, in order to reduce magnetic braking. This method has the advantage of avoiding an increase in the mass of the vehicle and of eliminating the resulting drawbacks.
The method and the device described present in particular the following advantages: the possibility of constructing road networks which, while faithfully reproducing reality, allow the autoguiding of vehicles; the simplicity of bifurcations, crossings and other peculiarities of the route likely to be traveled by the vehicle; the possibility of developing sections of road allowing the crossing or overtaking of vehicles; finally, the possibility of supplying electric vehicles from the road and, if necessary, slaving this supply to the various road signals.
