Description

Use in the fight against mites, of benzyl sulphide and p-chlorophenyl The invention relates to the use for the control of mites, in the state of eggs, larvae or perfect animals, on vegetation, benzyl sulfide and p-chlorophenyl.
The invention is based on the discovery that benzyl p-chlorophenyl sulfide possesses acaricidal properties and is effective for the control of moths (Mites) in the state of eggs and larvae as well as the adult state, in particular against Tetranychidae or red spider mites which feed on plants, for example Tetranichus telarius L and Metatetranychus ulmi Koch.
According to the present invention, therefore, for the control of mites, in the form of eggs, larvae or adult animals, on vegetation, as active ingredient, benzyl and p-chlorophenyl sulfide is used.
Preparations which may be in the form of powder, dispersion, emulsion, etc. can be used for carrying out the invention.
In dispersions, the active ingredient forms a dispersed solid phase and is in combination with a dispersing agent and / or an aqueous suspending agent. To facilitate the preparation thereof, the active ingredient may be premixed with a dispersing agent and / or a suspending agent, so that a dispersion is formed, when the mixture is added to water; the preparation to be diluted may also contain an organic solvent miscible with water, such as acetone.
The dispersions which can be employed can also be presented in the form of suspensions in which the dispersed solid phase is mixed with an aqueous oil emulsion, the active ingredient being insoluble in oil, which is preferably , a non-volatile oil, for example liquid paraffin.
In emulsions, the dispersed phase is formed by a solution of the active ingredient, in combination with an emulsifying agent, in an organic solvent, such as xylene or an aromatic solvent boiling between 80 and 3000 C. It may be advantageous if they further comprise a non-volatile mineral or vegetable oil, such as liquid paraffin, which acts as an activator and / or fixing agent. The emulsion can also contain a wetting agent.
To facilitate preparation, the active ingredient may be premixed with or dissolved in an organic solvent, as specified above, together with an emulsifying agent and, if desired, a wetting agent, so that An emulsion is formed when the mixture is incorporated into water. The aqueous emulsions and dispersions, described in the present specification, can be diluted with water before application, so as to obtain a final concentration of active ingredient of between 0.01 and 10.0% weight / volume.
Dispersions of the active ingredient in which the base is a solid powdery diluent can also be used.
Examples of preparations which can be used in accordance with the invention are given below. Example 1 To prepare an emulsion, a sufficient quantity of benzyl and p-chlorophenyl sulphide is dissolved. in a solution obtained by mixing 10 parts by weight of Inséra 108 (trade mark designating a nonionic emulsifying agent)
and 90 parts by weight of benzene to give a final solution containing 20% (weight / volume) of active ingredient. The oily liquid can be diluted with water to form a stable emulsion.
Example 2 To prepare a dispersible powder, the following ingredients are intimately mixed. Benzyl and p-chlorophenyl sulfide. . . . . . . . 20 Belloid T D parts (commercial designation of a dispersing agent). . . . . . . . . 8 Kaolin parts. . . . . . . . . 72 parts Example 3 An acaricidal powder is prepared by intimately mixing the following ingredients Benzyl and p-chlorophenyl sulfide. . . . . . . .
5 parts Kaolin. . . . . . . . . 95 games
