Accounting machine The present invention relates to an accounting machine comprising a differential drive capable of being positioned under the control of two rows of keys and comprising several stop devices for the endings to cooperate each with a key corresponding depression of a first row of keys to determine the position of the driver, characterized by a movable member capable of cooperating with one of said stop devices and remaining inactive when one of the keys of the first row of keys is pressed, this movable member being locked against any movement when one of the keys of the second row is pressed, so as to become active to stop the movement of the stop device in question,
in order to stop the differential driver in a position corresponding to said pressed button of the second row. The appended drawing represents, partially and by way of example, an embodiment of the machine forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view showing differential sliders for pence, units of shillings and tens of shillings, together with their actuators. Fig. 2 is a keyboard diagram showing the rows of keys for pence, units of shillings and tens of shillings.
Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view of the members controlling the differential cursor for recording the value of ten pence in a totalizer. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the differential pence mechanism. The accounting machine shown is provided with simple means for converting a differential mechanism of the decimal system into a mechanism for the sterling system.
The pence keys are arranged in two rows, one of which has nine keys arranged in the conventional decimal system, while the 10 pence and 11 pence keys are placed in a separate row, opposite the 8 and 9 keys. A differential driver is placed below the buttons 1 to 9 and moves differentially in twelve positions. Stops on the trainer are placed in such a way, with respect to keys 1 to 9, that the values 1 to 9 are recorded in a twelve-position totalizer wheel under the action of the trainer.
To enter the value 10 in the totalizer, when key 10 is pressed, a movable stop is placed under the keyboard and this stop cooperates with the stop 7 of the trainer and is moved by the latter, until that one of its projections, arranged opposite the key 10, comes into contact with the key 10 to thus stop the differential driver in its position 10. To register the value of 11 pence in the totalizer, a fixed stopper stops the differential driver when the latter has been moved eleven positions.
To record the value of tens of shillings, a fixed stopper is provided in the row of tens of shillings and stops the differential driver of that row once it has moved one position. As the differential mechanism is of a known type, only a very brief description will be given here.
Nine post keys 15 (Figs. 1, 2 and 4), referred to herein as pence keys 1 to 9, are slidably mounted in a keyboard frame comprising a top plate 16, a bottom plate 17, a face plate 18 and a back plate 19. Hand springs 20 normally hold the keys in the non-depressed position. A key 21 for the 10 pence and a key 22 for the 11 pence are likewise mounted in the keyboard frame, but in an adjacent row, opposite the keys 15 which correspond to the values of 8 and 9 pence, respectively.
A trigger 23 slides in the keyboard frame and is shaped at its upper end so as to constitute a U-shaped extension 24, which must cooperate with the keys 21 and 22. The trigger 23 is provided with slots 25 through from which pass the keys 15, as well as the keys 21 and 22. A spring 26 normally maintains the trigger 23 so that each slot 25 remains in contact with a cam ridge 27 formed on each key 15, 21 and 22.
When a key is depressed, the cam ridge 27 acts on the trigger 23 to move it forward against the action of the spring 26, until a shoulder 28 of said key passes below the trigger 23, after which the spring 26 brings the trigger 23 slightly rearward, over the shoulder 28, to lock the button pressed in this position. At the end of the machine's operation, a known key return mechanism operates by moving the trigger 23 forward, which releases the pressed key.
The button stems are staggered (fig. 1) so as to come on the path of nine flanges 30, arranged alternately on each side of a differential driver 31, sliding on cross members 32 and 33. The flanges 30 corresponding to the keys of 1 to 9 pence are arranged, with respect to the key rods, in such a way that they are stopped by contact with the rods after displacement of the trainer 31 by a number of steps corresponding to the value of the key pressed. For example, if stopped by the 9 key, the driver 31 moves enough to produce the recording of the value of nine pence in a totalizer wheel 34, which has twelve teeth.
The actual recording in the totalizer wheel takes place with the aid of a toothed sector 35 which engages with the totalizer wheel 34 in the well known manner. The toothed sector 35 is carried by a disc 36 rotating on a shaft 37. A sector 38 is integral with the disc 36 and meshes with teeth 39 formed at the lower part of the driver 31.
A spring 40 normally maintains a shoulder 41 of the driver 31 in contact with a rod 42 supported by several arms 43, which are fixed on a tilting shaft 44. On the shaft 44 are also pinned cam arms 45 comprising rollers. 46 and 47 which cooperate respectively with two cams 48 and 49 fixed on a main shaft 50. During the operation of the machine, the cams 48 and 49 move, by means of the cam arms 45 and of the arm 43, the rod 42 which delivers each differential driver 31 to the action of its spring 40, until a flange 30 comes into contact with the rod of a pressed key. This movement of the trainer 31, thanks to the sector 38, advances the toothed sector 35 over a distance proportional to the value of the key 15 pressed.
Then, the totalizer wheel 34 is engaged with the toothed sector 35 and the rod 42 returns the driver 31 to the original position, which registers the desired value in the totalizer wheel 34, which is then disengaged from the toothed sector 35 , while an aligner 51, pivoting on a shaft 152, engages the wheel to maintain it in its new position. A warning light 52, fixed to the totalizer wheel 34, is made visible to the operator thanks to a window 53 made in the trunk 54.
A zero stop stop (not shown) of a known type is arranged to retain the driver 31 in its zero position.
The differential driver 31 is brought to position 10 by means of a movable arm 60 (fig. 1, 3 and 4) pivoting on a pin 61 mounted on the underside of the bottom plate 17 of the keyboard. This arm 60 has a ridge 62 and when the key 10 is depressed, its rod is brought on the path of the ridge 62 to prevent the movement of the arm 60 after a certain distance. The arm 60 also has a flange 63 which is in the path of that of the flanges 30 which cooperates with the key 15 of the 7 pence, when the latter has been depressed. A shoulder stud 64, disposed in a slot 65 of the arm 60, is intended to guide the latter in its rotational movements around the stud 61.
When the 10 pence key 21 is pressed, and the differential driver 31 is able to operate, the 7 pence flange 30 contacts the flange 63 during rearward movements of the driver. Since the depressed 10 pence key 21 is on the path of the ridge 62, the arm 60 pivots a small angle in the senestrorsum direction (in fig. 1) around the stud 61, from the position of fig. 1 to that of FIG. 3, until it is stopped by contact of the edge 62 with the front edge of the touch rod 21. This movement has the effect of stopping the driver 31 at a position which corresponds to ten steps of shifting.
The differential driver 31 has a ridge 67 which cooperates with the cross member 32 when the machine is operating while the 11 pence key 22 is depressed. In this case, the key 22 does not directly control the stopping of the trainer 31. It only releases the stop stop at zero (not shown).
When the differential driver moves to position 11, the flange 30 which comes into contact with the flange 63 unladen the arm 60 in the senestorsum direction.
As the driver 31 is returned to the home position from either position 10 or position 11, the flange 30 of the 9 pence key 15 contacts a stud 66 of the arm 60, which returns the latter in the dextrorsum direction, to the normal position.
In a variant, the pivoting arm 60 could be replaced by a slide. The differential trainer 31 belonging to the tens of shillings row never moves more than one step. However, there are nine keys 70 for these tens, in order to facilitate the placement of the numbers on the keyboard. Depression of any one of these keys 70 triggers the corresponding trainer 31, releasing the stop stop at zero, but the trainer is never moved by more than one step. To achieve this result, a square stud 71 (Fig. 1) is mounted under the bottom plate 17, at a distance of one step from one of the flanges 30 of the driver 31 of the row of tens of shillings.
Therefore, when this driver is released by depressing one of the keys 70, it moves one step, determined by the stopping of the flange 30 by the square stud 71. The differential mechanism of the shilling units ( keys 72) is of standard decimal construction.
The amounts added in the totalisers can be placed on printing wheels, so as to obtain a printed document. To this end, a control slide 80 sliding on the crosspieces 32 and 33 is placed adjacent to each driver 31. The latter comprises at its lower part teeth 81 in engagement with a coupling member 82 pivoting under the control. of the slide 80. Just before the rod 42 moves, the coupling member 82 rocks and disengages its teeth from the teeth 81 to allow the driver 31 to move under the control of the keys or of the stopper to zero. The beach neck member 82 tilts thanks to a cam arm 83 rotating on a shaft 84.
A rod 85 moves in a cam slot 86 to lower a finger 87 and bring it into engagement with a stud 88 carried by the coupling member 82, so that the latter tilts down. During the movement of the rod 42, the latter comes into contact with a shoulder 89- carried by the slide 80, in order to allow the latter to return to the normal position. Once the differential driver 31 has been positioned by a key or the stopper at zero, the or gan de. coupling 82 is re-engaged with teeth 81, which couples the slide 80 with the driver 31. Then, when the rod 42 comes into contact with the shoulder 41 to return the driver to its original position. , the control slide 80 is moved over the same distance.
The slide 80 carries teeth 90 in engagement with a pinion 91 mounted on a shaft 92, which pinion drives printing wheels in a known manner.
The rod 85 is supported by several arms 93 fixed on a rocking shaft 94 which receives, in the known manner, a rocking movement with each operation.
