Description

Flexible coupling The object of the present invention is a flexible coupling. Its purpose is to provide a coupling having practically no rigidity or extremely low rigidity to damp torsional vibrations or other variations in speed or power transmitted between two shafts or other parts. rotary. The device envisaged is specially intended to be used as a coupling of shafts for internal combustion engines.

The flexible coupling forming the subject of the present invention is characterized in ce that it comprises two coaxial rotating parts, the first part having recesses in which the extensions presented by the second engage. part, so to ensure a limited freedom in the rotary movement of the extensions in the recesses around the axis of said parts, and spaces forming tight communications of the front part to </ B> the rear part of each recess.

The appended drawing represents, by by way of ple, two embodiments and a variant of the coupling according to the invention.

Fig. 5 is a partial view, perpendicular to fig. 4.

Fig. 6 is a section along 6-6 of fig. 5.

Fig. 7 is a section through a variant of part of fig. 1.

Fig. 8 is a section of the same variation, similar to in fig. 3.

In the first embodiment shown in Figs. 1 to 3, the coupling comprises a first rotating part which comprises two flanges 10, 11 fixed together by bolts 12, a ring 13 </ B > being arranged between them to form a drum. Annular gaskets 14 are placed between the flanges and the ring 13.

The second rotating part of the coupling comprises a disc 15 housed in said drum and having at its outer periphery extensions 17 s' radially extending, having the form of gear teeth and which engage in 18 recesses in the inner periphery of the ring 13.

The disc 15 has pins 20 and 21 on its opposite sides, with rings 23, 24 mounted on these pins. The 10, 11 flanges have 25, 26 sleeves which rest on these rings. The sleeve 25 has a flange 27 which can be fixed by bolts passing through holes 28 to one of the two shafts which must be mated, and pin 21 has a 29 keyway to connect it to the other shaft, a wheel, etc. .

An annular seal 30 is placed between the pin 21 and the sleeve 26, this seal being compressed by a ring 31 which is fixed by bolts 32 to the sleeve 26.

In the space between each adjacent pair of teeth 17, four holes 34 are bored radially, two at near the base of a tooth on each side of said space. To increase the drag by viscosity, the inner ends of these holes are of reduced diameter and communicate with annular recesses 35, 36 constituting a reservoir of fluid in the opposite sides of the disc 15, these recesses being in communication with each other through through conduits 37 parallel to the axis of the 'tree. The holes 34 and the recesses 35, 36 together form spaces which provide tight communication from the front part to the rear part of each recess.

The recesses 18, seen from the end, have a shape similar to that of the teeth, but wider depending on the circumference, for example from 10 to 40% wider.

The axial width of the 15 disc may be such that the disc fits in the two side flanges with smooth sliding, or with small clearances. The parts can also have grooves in lieu of games.

The recesses, holes and conduits are filled with a liquid of suitable viscosity, for example a silicone oil, by means of a filling hole 39 normally closed by a plug 40. The device comprises two holes 39 and two diametrically opposed plugs 40 (of which only one of each is visible to in fig. 1), one holes allowing air to escape from the device and which can be connected to a vacuum pump, the second being used for introduction of the fluid into the device.

Liquid can be forced through through the tightened holes 34 in either direction under varying forces, with liquid being transferred from one end of each recess 18 </ B > in the annular recesses 35 or 36 and then in the opposite end of the recess 18.

The device is hermetically sealed after the introduction of the liquid and remains active for long periods without requiring attention or maintenance such as adding liquid.

The 15 disc may be made of a non-metallic material.

In the second embodiment shown in Figs. 4 to 6, the organs 10. 11, 12, 13, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 27 are similar to the same organs of the embodiment shown in figs. 1 to 3, but the recesses 18 are in the form of slits which extend axially through through the ring 13 . The second rotating part of the device comprises two parts 50 and 51 fixed together by bolts 52 and having two flanges 53, 54.

The ring 13 extends internally between the flanges 53, 54 and the latter carry extensions in the form of pins 55 which are arranged axially with respect to the rotating parts and carry rings 56 of a non-metallic material which engage in the slots 18. These slots are elongated along the cylindrical surface which contains the axes of the 55. anchors

The communicating spaces are formed by grooves 60 in the first rotating part and by an annular clearance 61 between the parts 50, 51 </ I> and the ring 13. Small clearances exist between parts 50, 51 and flanges 10 , 11, these sets communicating with the set 61 through holes 68, 69.

In the variant shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, communication between the damping recesses 18 and the recesses 35, 36 is ensured by pairs of relief and check valves, instead of through holes 34, to allow pressure adjustment.

A 70 relief valve features a spring-loaded ball and can be sized to provide greater resistance to fluid flow under pressure on the active side of the 18 space than a bare check valve 71, also with ball, allowing the return of the liquid from the spaces 35, 36 at the rear side of space 18. The operation is as follows:

When the extensions 17 - move in the direction of the arrow A, the pressure which is established forces fluid to pass from the front part l8a of the recess through through a discharge valve 70a to the recess 35 and, from there, through a check valve 7la to the rear part 18b of the recess in which there is a momentary vacuum.

If the movement of the extensions 17 is in the direction of arrow B, then the liquid flows in the opposite direction to through a relief valve 70b to the recess 36 and the fluid returns through a valve 71b. Such a construction can be useful to allow for the pressure adjustment of the screen by visco sity in large devices. The described coupling produces a non-linear character in the dynamic system and thus prevents the establishment of torsional oscillations.

Such a device is applicable to any transmission whatever its size, that is to say whatever the speed and the torque transmitted, more particularly to the shaft systems in which the engine takes priority. mayor and / or the driven machine are of the reciprocating type. A universal, or elastic torsion, or self-aligning, spring steel disc type is preferably disposed between the coupling forming the subject of the invention and the driven machine.
