Description

Base for fuse In electrical current distribution installations, fuses are often placed in cabinets, the front panel of which is movable or removable and carries the various control and measuring devices and instruments.

In order to allow the replacement of a fuse without requiring the opening of the cabinet, these fuses are generally housed in bases in insulating material comprising, on the one hand, a base having a housing intended to receive the fuse and provided with 'a central contact pad and a threaded metal flange intended to receive a cha skin closing said housing and, on the other hand,

a protective collar made of insulating material surrounding and protecting said metal collar and the front end of which has a cylindrical surface intended to engage in a corresponding opening made in the movable wall of the cabinet. Thus, the cap, screwed into the metal collar, emerging from this wall, is therefore accessible from the front face of said wall. The base is generally provided with fixing members allows; so much to fix it, either on a bus bar, or on profiled irons.

In order to facilitate the fixing of the base in the correct position, that is to say in a position for which the protective collar is centered in the opening made in the movable wall of the cabinet, the manufacturers have devised various fasteners, assembly jigs and special assembly tools, but the fitter is still under the obligation to provisionally mount the plinth in its approximate position, then fit the movable wall of the cabinet correcting the position of the base, then pull this wall to complete the tightening of the clamping members of the base fixing members on the profile irons.

In order to facilitate this work, some manufacturers have planned to provide only one of the fasteners with a clamping member, the other fasteners being constituted by claws which take the bus bar or the profiled iron.

The present invention relates to a base for a fuse of the type cited and which tends to simplify the assembly work and which is characterized in that said clamping member is accessible from the front face of the protective collar, even. when this collar is secured in the corresponding opening made in said movable wall.

The accompanying drawing illustrates, schematically and by way of example, three embodiments of the fuse base according to the invention.

Fig. 1 is a side view of the first embodiment of the base fixed to a profiled iron and of which the protective collar is engaged in an opening made in a movable wall. Fig. 2 is a view of the front face of this base.

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken along the line 111-111 of FIG. 2.

Fig. 4 is a partial sectional view of the second embodiment.

Fig. 5 is a partial sectional view of the third embodiment. According to fig. 1 to 3, the fuse base is of the known type comprising, on the one hand, a base 1 of insulating material having a housing 2 intended to receive a fuse and provided with a central contact pad 3 electrically connected to a arrival terminal 4 and glue; Threaded metal rette 5 connected to a starting terminal 6 and intended to receive a cap (not shown) closing off the housing 2 and, on the other hand, a protective collar 7 made of insulating material fixed to the base and surrounding and protecting the metal bezel 5.

This protective glue has at its anterior end a cylindrical centering surface 8 intended to be engaged in a corresponding opening 9 made in a removable wall 10 of a cabinet, for example.

At the base 1 is maintained a fixing plate 11 provided with two claws 12 to engage on the upper edge of a profiled iron 13. This fixing plate is provided with a clamping member constituted by a screw 14 (fi -. 3) passing through a hole 15 made in the base, screwed into this plate, and the head 16 of which bears on a bearing face 17 arranged on the base.

A second clamping member constituted by a screw 18, the head 19 of which bears on a bearing face 20, passes through holes 21 and 22 made respectively in the base and in the fixing plate and is screwed in a second o cond fixing member 23 constituted by a part comprising, on the one hand, a spout 24 coming to rest on the rear face of a part of the profiled iron 13 and, on the other hand, a heel 25 which is supported by the intermediate of the fixing plate 11, on the rear face 26 of the base 1. The assembly of the base for the fuse described is carried out as follows.

The fitter suspends the base 1 provided with its protective glue 7, to the profiled iron 13 by means of the claws 12, the clamping members 14 and 18 being loosened and the spout 24 being parallel to the edge 27 of the profiled iron 13, c 'That is to say in a position 90 ,, relative to that shown in the drawing. The base thus suspended can be moved at will along the profiled iron 13. The fitter places the movable wall 10 of the cabinet in the closed position (position shown in the drawing) by sliding the base 1 along the profiled iron 13. that the cylindrical bearing surface 8 of the protective collar 7 engages in the opening 9 made in this wall.

He then fixes this wall in position by means of clamping members, latch or other known means of retaining this wall in the closed position. Using a screwdriver 28 engaged in recesses 29 and 30 provided respectively in the protective glue 7 and in the base 1, the fitter successively tightens the clamping members 14 and 18.

Tightening the screw 14 by hand holds the fixing plate 11 to the base 1, while the tightening of the screw 18 first causes an angular displacement of the spout 24 from 90 to the position shown in the drawing and determined by a stop 31 on which abuts the heel 25, then the clamping of the part 23 whose spout bears on the rear face of the profiled iron, while its heel 25 clamps the fixing plate 11 on the rear face 26 of the base. Thus, the profiled iron 13 is clamped between the spout 24 and the fixing plate 11. The claws 12 oppose any tilting of the base 1.

The fuse base is therefore fixed rigidly on the profiled iron by simply tightening the clamping members 14 and 18 accessible from the front face of the fuse base even when the movable wall 10 is in the closed position and the centering range 8 of the protective collar engaged in the corresponding opening 9 made in this wall 10.

It should be noted that the heads of screws 14 and 18 are only accessible when the cap closes the housing 2 and is screwed onto the threaded collar 5. is withdrawn. that is to say that these screws are accessible only when the glue 5 connected to the starting terminal 6 is not under tension. The screwdriver 28 engaged in the recesses 29 and 30 cannot come into contact with the central pad 3 connected to the arrival terminal 4 and which may be under voltage. These recesses 29 and 30 are moreover provided so that the screwdriver engaged in them cannot in any case come into contact with a live part. Indeed, side walls 32 of the base 1 and a skirt 33 of the flange 7 gui dent the end of the screwdriver and prevent this end from coming into contact with a live part.

The fuse base shown is also provided with two connection terminals 34, 35 connected by a strip (not shown) and designed to connect the incoming and outgoing conductors of the neutral or of the phase connected to earth.

According to the embodiment shown in FIG. 4, the base 1 is provided with a threaded collar 5 and a protective collar 7 similar in all respects to those described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3. On the other hand, the base 1 is fixed to the profile 36 by means of two fixing or ganes 23 which are supported, on the one hand, on the rear face of the profile and, on the other hand, on the face. back 26 of the base by means of a metal plate 37.

The assembly is carried out by first tightening the clamping members 18 very lightly, that is to say enough to suspend the base from the profile 36, but insufficiently to hold the base 1 with this profile, in order to allow the sliding of the base 1 along the profile 36. The fitter then proceeds, as described above, to the exact position of the base along the profile, then tightens the clamping members using a screwdriver, the mobile pa king 10 of the cabinet being in the closed position. In the embodiment illustrated by FIG. 5, two clamping members 38 are screwed into a fixing member 39 constituted by a plate.

The base 1 is fixed to a U-shaped profile 40 by clamping this profile between the plate 39 and the plate 37 resting on the rear face 26 of the base.

Three embodiments of the fuse base, object of the invention, have been described here by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing, but it goes without saying that multiple variants can be provided. Thus, for example, the central pad 3 could be connected to a contact located on the rear face of the base so as to allow the base to be fixed directly on a bus bar.
