<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Wristwatch The present invention relates to a wristwatch, comprising a middle part, a bezel, a back cover and retaining members on which are supported the fastening devices of the two ends of the bracelet. This wristwatch differs from known watches by the fact that the caseband extends beyond the caseback on at least two opposite sides thereof, by the fact that this caseback protrudes from the projecting face of the caseband, and by the that said retaining members are located between the plane containing the upper edge of the middle part and the plane containing the lower face of the back, and protrude from a surface located inside a prism generated by a generatrix s' pressing on the peripheral edge of the caseband.
The appended drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example, five embodiments of the wristwatch, object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a bottom view of a wristwatch, only one end of the bracelet being shown.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on a larger scale taken along the line II-II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial cross-sectional view on a large scale, of an alternative embodiment of the locking device of the bracelet.
The fi-. 4 is a partial sectional view of a wristwatch according to a second embodiment. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken along the line V-V of FIG. 4 of the device for attaching one end of the bracelet.
Fig. 6 is a partial view from below of a watch according to a third embodiment. Fig. 7 is a sectional view of a detail on a larger scale.
Fig. 8 is a partial plan view of a watch according to a fourth embodiment, certain parts being seen in section.
The fi-. 9 is a partial profile view. Fig. 10 is a sectional view of a detail on a larger scale.
Fig. 11 is a partial view from below of a watch according to a fifth embodiment, the end of the bracelet being shown opposite its retaining member.
Fig. 12 is a sectional view along the line XII-XII of FIG. 11.
According to fig. 1 and 2, the wristwatch is generally circular in shape and comprises a caseband 1 carrying a bezel 2 and a back 3. This caseband has a diameter a two to three times greater than the diameter b of the back. In addition, this bottom forms a projection of a height h relative to an external wall g of the middle part having the general shape of a truncated cone widening towards the bezel 2. This height h is approximately equal to the height hl of the bezel 2.
A retaining member 4, consisting of a guide, is rigidly fixed to the wall g of the middle part 1 and protrudes from this wall. A bar 5, engaged in this guide 4, is held in the axial position by a locking device, consisting of an annular groove 6 in which is engaged the end of a needle 7 sliding in a bore 8, made in the middle part and subjected to the action of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
spring 9 resting on a plate 10, crimped in a housing 11.
The central part 12 of the bar has a diameter corresponding to that of the guide and greater than the diameter of its two lateral parts 13. These lateral parts are provided, at their end, with a stop or holding member 14.
The end of the bracelet B, folded over on itself in the known manner, has a notch 15 of dimensions corresponding to those of the guide 4 and the two sleeves 16 thus formed are engaged on the two lateral parts 13 of the bar.
From examining the drawing, it can be seen that the device for attaching the bracelet to the middle part of the watch is entirely hidden under this middle part when the wristwatch is attached to the user's arm. In addition, the caseback being of a relatively small diameter compared to that of the caseband, this caseback sinks into the epidermis so that the watch appears much flatter than it actually is.
In the variant according to FIG. 3, the device for locking the bar 5 in the axial position in its guide 4, comprises a spring 17, forming a circular arc of more than 1800, one of the ends of which is bent and forms a finger 18 extending radially. lement towards the interior of said arc of a circle. This spring is housed in an annular groove 19 formed in the outer surface of the guide 4 and its finger 18, passing through a radial bore 20, is engaged in an annular groove 21 of the bar 5.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 4 and 5, the wall g of the middle part 1 is generally conical in shape and the retaining member is constituted by a guide 4, the cross section of which is rectangular. This guide is housed under the caseband, between the plane f of the upper edge thereof and the plane e of the lower face of the base 3 and inside a cylinder whose generator i rests on the peripheral edge of the middle. The bar 5 is arched and has a central part 22 of greater width and two side parts 23 ending in two nozzles 24.
The end of the bracelet folded back on itself and having a notch 15, is engaged on this bar, as shown in FIG. 5. The locking device of the bar in the axial position in its guide consists on the one hand, by the notch 15 whose lateral edges abut against the front faces of the guide 4 and, on the other hand, by the nozzles 24 which form stops resting against the lateral edges of the bracelet. This locking device therefore simultaneously constitutes a device for maintaining the bracelet in position on the bar.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 6 and 7, the caseband, similar to that illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, is provided with two pairs of retaining members, constituted by bearings 25 and 26 in which the ends of two bars 27 are engaged. The bearing 25 is provided with a bottom 28 on which rests one of the ends of the bar, while the bearing 26 is provided with a stopper 29 screwed into its end and which has an axial bore 30 in which the second end 31 of the bar is engaged.
In the embodiment illustrated by FIGS. 8 to 10, the middle part is provided with two guides 4 carried by horns arranged on either side of the bottom and integral with the wall g of this middle part. The guides 4, located outside the cylinder i, the generator of which rests on the peripheral edge of the middle part, are each crossed by an attachment bar 32. In addition, the middle part has a height h @ approximately equal to each of the heights h of the back 3 and hl of the bezel.
As shown in the drawing, only the lower link of the folded end of the bracelet B has a notch 15, giving passage to the guide 4, while the upper link covers this guide; each end of the fastening bar 32 is provided with a removable stop member, constituted by a head 33 (fig. 10), carrying a barrel 34, having an internal circular groove 35. In this groove is partially housed a split annular spring 36 which also penetrates into an annular groove 37, formed in each end of the bar 32.
These stop members, the rear face 38 of which abuts against the lateral edges 40 of the bracelet B, together with the notch 15, simultaneously constitute a device for locking the bar in the axial position in the guide 4 and a device for holding the bracelet in position on the bar.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 11 and 12, the wall g of the middle part 1 is provided with two guides 41, located on either side of the bottom 3 and arranged on the same diameter. This guide has a smooth bore in which is engaged a pin 42 which passes through bores 43, made in lugs 44 integral with an end link 47 of a metal bracelet. This pin 42 is retained in its axial position in its guide 41 by the lateral edges 45 of the end link.
In order to allow the installation of this pin, the lateral edges 45 of the end link each have a bore 46 located in relation to the bores 43 of the ears 44, so that by elastically deforming the end link to using a tool, it is possible to bring these four bores 43, 46 into the same alignment. So. by elastically deforming the link 47, it is possible to set up the pin 42 which is found to be automatically trapped between the side edges 45 when the link resumes its original shape elastically and that consequently, the holes 43 and 46 are not more located on a right.
As a variant, the retaining members may be secured either to the middle part 1 as shown in the drawing, or to the bottom 3, but are therefore always secured to a wall located inside a cylinder or in general. a prism, the generator of which rests on the peripheral edge of the caseband.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The middle 1 and the back 3 may have come from a single piece of production, as is the case in so-called two-piece watch cases v. The middle part can be circular as shown in the drawing, or any other desired shape, rectangular, oblong, polygonal, etc., but always overflows the bottom on at least two opposite sides thereof.
The locking device shown in fig. 1 and 2 could also comprise a ball sliding in a bore and subjected to the action of a leaf spring, one of the ends of which is made integral with the internal face of the caseband. This variant embodiment makes it possible to produce a locking device of short length which can therefore be housed in the thin wall of a middle part.
