Description

  Après durcissement du tuyau de béton, on ap  plique la matière fibreuse imprégnée de résine syn  thétique à l'extérieur du tuyau, par exemple par en  roulement. Après durcissement, la gaine en matière  fibreuse liée par une résine synthétique     ainsi    formée,  assure les fonctions suivantes : (a)     rendre    le tuyau  de béton étanche au suintement du     fluide    à haute       pression    qu'il contient ; (b)     précontraindre    le tuyau  de béton du fait de la     contraction    de la résine pen  dant son durcissement ainsi que de la     tension    exer  cée sur la matière imprégnée lors de son applica  tion ;

  Bien que seules des fibres disposées     circonféren-          tiellement    soient     nécessaires    pour résister à     l'effort     de     distension    provoqué par la pression du     fluide    à       l'intérieur    du tuyau, la     résistance    à la     flexion    longitu  dinale du tuyau intérieur de béton peut être aug  mentée par  (1) application de fibres parallèles à son axe,  par exemple par l'utilisation d'étoffe tissée, de nap  pes, de rubans, ou de mèches appliqués dans le sens       longitudinal    ;

Composite pipe, method for its manufacture and apparatus for carrying out this method The present invention relates to a composite pipe, to a method for its manufacture and to an apparatus for carrying out this method.

It has already been proposed to manufacture pipes of a material bound by means of synthetic resins, for example of glass fibers in the form of a web, of wicks or of woven or felted fabric bound by a polyester resin. Although such pipes are capable of withstanding high internal pressures, they have two drawbacks. In the first place, they have low flexural strength and as a result, if they are of a sufficiently large length, they become very difficult to handle.

Secondly, the material bound by means of synthetic resins does not exhibit very high wear resistance so that if the pipe is used to transport fluids the inner surface of the pipe wears out very quickly on contact with the fluids. foreign bodies carried by the fluid.

The present invention aims to avoid the drawbacks mentioned above.

The composite pipe according to the invention comprises an outer layer of fibrous material bonded by a synthetic resin and an inner layer of concrete.

The process for the manufacture of this composite pipe is characterized in that a fibrous material impregnated with liquid synthetic resin is applied to the exterior of a concrete pipe, after which the resin is hardened.

The concrete of the inner layer of the composite pipe can be based on Portland cement, sulfate resistant cement, aluminous cement, etc. This inner layer of concrete can be reinforced. To facilitate the end-to-end assembly of the pipes, the inner layer of concrete may, at one end slightly protrude from the layer of material bound by the synthetic resin. And end a little indented at the other end of the pipe. Any other common assembly mode can, however, be used.

The inner layer or concrete core of the pipe can be fabricated by any common process, for example, by centrifuging, or by tamping or vibration molding.

  After hardening of the concrete pipe, the fibrous material impregnated with synthetic resin is applied to the outside of the pipe, for example by rolling. After curing, the sheath of fibrous material bound by a synthetic resin thus formed performs the following functions: (a) making the concrete pipe impervious to the seepage of the high pressure fluid which it contains; (b) prestressing the concrete pipe due to the contraction of the resin during its curing as well as the tension exerted on the impregnated material during its application;

   (c) reinforce the inner pipe with concrete to allow it to withstand higher internal pressures without bursting. With regard to this last function, the inner concrete pipe can be reinforced to such an extent, by means of the fibrous material bound by a synthetic resin that, if desired, it is possible to dispense with reinforcing the pipe. concrete interior.

The fibrous material bonded by means of synthetic resin may consist of any suitable fibers, such as glass fibers or asbestos fibers in the form of wicks, webs, slivers or cloth, bonded by means of any synthetic resins. suitable thermoplastics or thermosets, for example polyester resins, allyl resins, phenolic resins, siloxane resins, melamine resins, epoxy resins and furan resins,

all of which can be molded using very low pressures from simple contact pressure and which can be heat treated at relatively low temperatures. These latter factors are of great importance since high temperature and / or high pressure can damage interior concrete pipes.

  Although only circumferentially arranged fibers are needed to resist the stress of distension caused by the pressure of the fluid inside the pipe, the longitudinal flexural strength of the concrete inner pipe can be increased by ( 1) application of fibers parallel to its axis, for example by the use of woven fabric, napkins, tapes, or rovings applied in the longitudinal direction;

or (2) the application of wicks following a helix of determined winding angle. By applying wicks following a helix of determined angle, it is possible to achieve a balance between the resistances to the distention forces and to the longitudinal bending forces of the pipe obtained.

For example, if the drill bits are arranged on the pipe following a helix of angle equal to zero, that is to say, parallel to the diametral axis of the inner concrete pipe, the resistance to the force of distension is maximum while the longitudinal flexural strength of the composite pipe is only equal to that of the inner concrete pipe.

An increase in the rolling angle of the wicks decreases the resistance to distension forces, if the same quantity of fibers is used but there is an increase in resistance to bending forces compared to the initial resistance presented. through the inner concrete pipe.

Thus by using a wrap angle of about 300 with respect to the diametral axis, the flexural strength is increased by a value equal to half of the tensile strength by compared to the initial strength of the inner concrete pipe.

In addition, by winding alternate layers of wicks according to helices of opposite angles, planes of cleavage or cracks along the diametral axis between the successive wicks are avoided, which reduces the risks of porosity at high fluid pressures.

In addition, since it is more convenient to make relatively short sections of concrete inner pipe, two or more of these sections can be joined by simple rebate joints and the resulting pipe can be coated with wicks as follows. a suitable helix angle so that the joint can withstand bending forces. This allows existing factories, for example factories that could manufacture concrete pipes in lengths of 1m, 1.5m, 2m and 2.5m to produce pressure resistant pipes of any reasonable multiples or combinations. of these lengths, thus reducing assembly joints to a minimum.

The apparatus for implementing the method in question is characterized in that it comprises means for doing so. rotating the concrete pipe around its longitudinal axis, and means for applying simultaneously to the pipe during its rotation several strands of fibers impregnated with liquid synthetic resin.

The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of said apparatus.

Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic side elevational view of part of this apparatus, some parts thereof broken away for clarity.

The fi-. 2 is a sectional view taken along line 11-11 of FIG. 1.

Fig. 3 is a detail view partially in section.

In the embodiment shown in the drawing, the apparatus comprises a lathe bed 1 mounted on the base 2, the lathe bed being provided with a tailstock and a tailstock of common construction. In the drawing, only the plate 3 at the end of the tailstock and the tailstock screw 4 at the end of the tailstock side have been shown.

Along one side of the lathe bed 1 is a recess 5, and on the other side of the bed is the recess 6. The two recesses 5 and 6, the axes of which are substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the plate 3, respectively receive the roller chains 7 and 8. Each of these chains is mounted on pinions at each end of the lathe bed, one of these pinions being designated by 9 in FIG. 1. One of the pairs of pinions 9 associated with each of the chains 7 and 8 is driven by a suitable transmission and a reversing device (not shown), at a speed proportional to the speed of rotation of the plate 3.

Raceways 10 and 11 are arranged on the base 2 on each side of the lathe bed, these raceways being substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the plate 3. Two practically similar chariots 12 and 13 provided of rollers 14 are arranged to move along the raceways 10 and 11 respectively. On the carriage 12 is mounted a pinion 15 on which engages the chain 7, this pinion can either rotate freely relative to the carriage, or be blocked on the latter by means of a device not shown. The carriage 13 has a similar pinion 16 on which the chain 8 engages.

Each of the carriages 12 and 13 supports a certain number of shafts 17 (FIG. 1) on each of which is mounted, so as to be able to turn, a reel 18 of strands of glass fibers. In the apparatus shown forty-two of these coils are supported by each of the carriages.

Each sup carriage also carries several polished guide rods 19, two alignment combs 20 and 21, a container 22, a fixed die holder 23, containing forty-two dies of ceramic or similar material as well as a die holder 24 with adjustable inclination mounted on an adjustable support arm 25 and also containing forty-two dies of ceramic or similar material.

In order to simplify the drawings in fig. 1 shows in detail only a few of the teeth of the comb 20 of the carriage 12, the other teeth are indicated by dotted lines. The combs 20 and 21 of the carriage 13 have been omitted in FIG. 1.

When it is desired to apply fiberglass wicks impregnated with synthetic resin on a concrete pipe 26 by means of the apparatus described above, the pipe is fitted with two end pieces 27 (see fig. 3) one at each end of the pipe. pipe, these ends being held in place by a 28 tie rod in the interior of the pipe. One fixture, generally designated 29, is then bolted onto tailstock screw 4 and another similar fixture is bolted onto plate 3. Each fixture 29 comprises two circular discs 30 and 31 spaced apart by a cylindrical member 32.

The length of the organ 32 is a little greater than the winding pitch X (fig. 1) according to which it is desired to wind the strands of fiberglass on the pipe. The disc 30 has a peripheral rim 33 and a friction ring 34. A thin cylindrical sleeve 35 is mounted so as to be able to slide on the discs 30 and 31, the outer diameter of this sleeve being substantially equal to that of the inner concrete pipe. 26.

In order to place the pipe in the apparatus, an eye bolt 36 is screwed into each of the end pieces 27. The pipe is then raised to a position where it is located between the mounts 29 of the tailstock and the tailstock. The tailstock screw 4 is then advanced towards the headstock so that the end pieces 27 are centered between the flanges 33 of the two mountings 29 and are tight against the friction discs 34.

The eye bolts are then removed and the sleeves 35 slid towards the ends of the pipe leaving a slight gap 37 between each sleeve and the adjoining end of the pipe (position shown in Fig. 1).

The fiberglass strands 38 of the coils 18 of each carriage are then threaded as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, a sufficient number of bits being used to uniformly cover a pitch width X g of the pipe being coated. Each bit 38 passes from its spool around guides 19, through alignment combs 20 and 21, around polished guides 39 in container 22 and then through ceramic dies of die holders 23 and 24.

One of the carriages being against the end, headstock side, of the lathe bed 1, and the other carriage against the other end of the lathe bed, the ends of the bits 38 are brought from the die holder 24 and attached to sleeves 35 at each end of pipe 26.

The container 22 of each carriage is then filled with liquid synthetic resin, the pinions 15 and 16 are immobilized and the plate 3 as well as the drive pin 9 are started.

As the pipe 26 rotates, the carriages 12 and 13 move in the opposite direction along the raceways 10 and 11. The rotation of the pipe causes the unwinding of the strands of fiberglass from the coils 18, their passage through the resin. containers 22 and their winding on the pipe, so as to apply to the latter two layers of fiberglass wicks impregnated with synthetic resin.

The ceramic dies of the die holder 23 remove excess resin from the wicks after they have passed through the containers 22 and the ceramic dies of the die holder 24 determine the spacing of the wicks before their application to the pipe. In fig. 1 the spacing of the wicks on the pipe 26 has been somewhat exaggerated in order to make the drawing more readable.

The gear ratio between the pinions 9 and the plate 3 is chosen so as to give the impregnated bits the desired helix angle (usually of the order of 30 °).

When the carriages reach the opposite ends of the pipe, the gears 15 and 16 are released and, with the carriages remaining stationary, a layer of resin-impregnated wicks is wound on each of the sleeves 35. The gears 15 and 16 are then immobilized again, after reversing the direction of rotation of the drive pinion 9.

This has the effect of moving the two carriages back along the pipe in order to apply a second pair of layers of resin-impregnated wicks on the pipe at helical angles opposite to those of the preceding layers.

The above process is repeated until a sufficient number of resin impregnated wick layers have been applied to give the concrete inner pipe the necessary resistance to bending and distension forces.

The purpose of layering resin-impregnated wicks coiled, with a helix angle of zero, on the sleeves 35 at the end of each movement of the carriages along the pipe, is to prevent the wicks from sliding backwards. when the carriages change direction to give the opposite helix angle.

After the final coats have been applied, the machine is stopped, after a full width equal to the pitch has been wound on each of the sleeves 35, and the sprockets 15 and 16 are released. Then by turning the pipe by one. turn by keeping a cutting tool against the layers of resin-impregnated wicks opposite each of the spaces 37, the pipe is released from the sleeves 35. The sleeves can then be slid backwards so as to screw the bolts back in. aeil 36 in the ends 27.

We lift slightly in order to support the weight of the pipe, we unscrew the tailstock screw 4, we then lift the pipe out of the machine and pass it into an oven (not shown) where the resin is heat treated.

A new concrete pipe is then placed in the machine, the wicks impregnated with resin being ready, already in place on the sleeves 35, to be wound on the new pipe.

Throughout the duration of the winding, a blade 40 (shown only in fig. 2) made of wood, rubber or other suitable material, extending over the entire length of the pipe, bears against the outer surface of the coating removing excess resin and smoothing the finished product.

The apparatus described above can receive inner concrete pipes having a range of different diameters, simply by using end fittings 27 and fixtures 29 of desired dimensions by adjusting the position of the die holders 24 and the squeegee 40. .

Of course, a composite pipe as described above can be manufactured in devices of different shapes from those of the device described with reference to the accompanying drawing. For example, the concrete inner pipe can be rotated and moved sideways relative to a car or carriages similar to carriage 12 shown in the drawings. Or, the inner pipe may be arranged to rotate, its longitudinal axis being substantially vertical, relative vertical displacements existing between the pipe and the means used to apply the wicks impregnated with synthetic resin.
