Description

Process for the plastic deformation of a film, device for carrying out the process, and structure produced by the process
The invention relates to a method for deforming a film, in particular a film made of thermoplastic synthetic resin, in which the film to be deformed is arranged over an opening in a wall of a deforming device and is tightly attached to this wall along the circumference of this opening, with a male mold then against the called wall is advanced so that at least one protruding part of the male mold passes through the opening mentioned, whereupon a negative pressure is generated in a suction space bounded on the one hand by the male mold and on the other hand by the film, so that the film is relieved from the pressure it exerts on the The side facing away from the male part is exposed, usually to the pressure of the outside air,

is pressed against the surface of the patrix. If the film to be deformed consists of thermoplastic synthetic resin, it must of course have been brought to its softening temperature beforehand in order to allow the protruding part of the male mold to pass through the wall opening and to be able to be pressed against the surface of the male mold, which is useful Radiation of heat occurs after it has been attached along the circumference of said opening.

In the hitherto customary way of carrying out this process, the sides of the film and the male mold facing each other are initially exposed to the outside air while the male mold is being advanced. When the protruding part of the patrix penetrates through said wall opening, the protruding part of the patrix then touches the foil with the foremost part of its surface in the feed direction, so that the foil rests against it. As the patrix advances further, the part of the patrix surface on which the film rests increases towards the edge of the wall opening, while the part of the film located between the part resting on the patrix and the edge of the wall opening is stretched.

The thickness of the film decreases mainly in the stretched part and in the respective edge parts of the part resting on the male part, while it remains almost unchanged in the middle of the last-mentioned part, because the sliding of the film material over the male surface due to the friction between the film and Patrix is inhibited. If during the subsequent generation of a negative pressure in the mentioned suction space between the film and the male mold, the part of the film not yet resting on the male mold is also pressed against the surface of the male mold, the thickness distribution in the film no longer changes significantly because the pressure, the the parts of the film that are already in contact with the male mold are exposed on their opposite side, acts perpendicular to the male mold surface.

These conditions are particularly disadvantageous when the film is deformed into a trough-like structure with a flat bottom, since the wall thickness of the frame of the trough-like structure is then much smaller than that of the base and in the areas with the small radius of curvature with the hollow side of the frame facing the male mold and the transition between the bottom and the frame, the wall thickness is so small that the material often tears when it is deformed or later in use.

This disadvantage can be countered according to the invention in that during the advancement of the male mold an overpressure is generated by the piston action of the male mold in a pressure box connected to said wall and the film in the area of the wall opening is arched away from the mold. As a result, the application of the film to the male mold can be prevented while the latter is being advanced; The arching of the film also causes it to stretch, so that a uniform, all-round wall thickness reduction is achieved before the film comes into contact with the male mold. Since the advanced male part comes to rest against a curved film surface, there is only line contact between film and male part.

The film therefore adheres less to the male mold, so that sliding of the film over the male surface is no longer or only to the desired extent inhibited by the friction between film and male mold. It can thus be achieved that at the end of the advance movement of the male mold the parts of the film located in front of the protruding part of the male mold have a smaller thickness and the parts of the film located to the side of this part of the male mold have a greater thickness than in the known embodiment of the process, so that the wall thicknesses of the deformed structure are more uniform.

The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method with a wall having an opening, a device for tightly holding a film to be deformed along the circumference of said opening, a male mold that can be pushed against this wall with at least one protruding part which, when the male mold is pushed forward through said opening, and means for sucking fluid through part of the surface of the male mold. In known devices of this type, the space between the wall having the opening and the male mold is open at the side, so that no overpressure can be generated in it.

In contrast, the device according to the invention is characterized by a pressure box connected to the said wall with a piston carrying the male mold and by means for advancing the piston towards the wall opening in order to, when the said opening is closed by the film to be deformed, a die in the pressure box To generate overpressure bulging outwards.

Finally, the invention also includes a structure produced by plastic deformation of a film using the method according to the invention.

An exemplary embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown schematically in the drawing. An embodiment of the method according to the invention is also explained, for example, on the basis of this drawing. It shows:
1 shows a section through the device after clamping a film to be deformed into a tub,
2 shows a corresponding section during the advancement of the patrix,
3 shows a corresponding section after the male mold has been pushed forwards, and FIG
4 shows a corresponding section after the film has been deformed.

The housing of the device shown in the drawing has a frame-like horizontal wall 1 which has an opening 2 and serves as a support for a thermoplastic resin film 3 to be deformed. To hold this film on the wall 1, a frame 4 is mounted on the housing by means of hinges 5 so that it can be opened. Screws 6 with wing nuts 7 allow the frame 4 to be pulled against the wall 1 in order to press the film 3 tightly against the wall 1 along the circumference of the opening 2. The housing of the device also has four vertical walls 8 which together surround a shaft delimited at the top by the wall 1 and having a rectangular cross section. A rectangular support plate 9 for a deformation male part 10 is arranged in this shaft.

The edges of this support plate 9 adjoin the walls 8 in an approximately airtight manner, so that the support plate, together with the male mold 10 carried by it, delimits a working space 11 in the shaft mentioned. The support plate 9 sits on a vertically displaceable column 12 which is vertically displaceable by means of a device (not shown), for example a piston which is pneumatically displaceable in a pressure cylinder and which has a longitudinal channel 13 opening into the top of the plate 9. This channel 13 is connected at the bottom in a manner not shown via lines and valves to a vacuum tank, to an evacuation pump and to a compressed air tank, so that it can be optionally connected to each of these tanks and to the suction side of the evacuation pump.

The male mold 10 has a protruding part 14 at the top, the shape of which corresponds to that of the hollow side of a tub-shaped structure to which the film 3 is to be deformed. A flat seat 15 runs around this protruding part. A cavity 16 is formed in the underside of the patrix 10 and communicates with the channel 13.

From this cavity 16 numerous small channels 17 lead to the part of the surface of the patrix enclosed by the seat 15.

In one of the walls 8 there is an opening 18 below the horizontal wall 1, the cross section of which can be adjusted by means of a slide 20 which can be displaced in guides 19.

Above the frame 4, a heating plate 21 provided with heating resistors is shown schematically in FIG. 1 and runs on horizontal rails 22.

To deform a piece of film 3 into a tub-shaped structure, the shape of which is given by that of the male mold 10, the following procedure is used:
First, the piece of film 3 to be deformed is placed on the wall 1 with the frame 4 folded up in such a way that it extends across the opening 2, the frame 4 is folded down over the piece of film 3 and attached to the wall in an airtight manner along the circumference of the opening 2 1 by pressing the frame 4 down on the screws 6 by means of the wing nuts 7 (Fig. 1). The heating plate 21 is then moved on the rails 22 over the part of the film 3 extending over the opening 2 and by means of this heating plate it is heated to a temperature which is higher than the softening temperature of the thermoplastic synthetic resin of which the film is made.

Then the heating current of the heating plate 21 is switched off and this is pushed aside again.

The support plate 9 with the male mold 10 is then shifted upwards by means of the aforementioned device, not shown; the line from the bottom of the channel 13 remains blocked. The plate 9 and the male mold 10 then together form a displacement body which penetrates into the working space 11 and displaces air from this through the opening 18. The cross section of the latter is adjusted by means of the slide 20 so that the air pressure in the working space 11 rises to the desired extent above the pressure of the outside air at the given displacement speed of the plate 9. As a result of this overpressure in the working space 11, the film 3 which has become plastic, as shown in FIG. 2, is arched upwards over the opening 2 of the wall 1 through the opening of the frame 4.

When the protruding part 14 of the male mold passes through the opening 2, it does not strike the film 3 until later than if it were flat in the area of the opening 2, as shown in FIG. In addition, it then does not touch the film 3 with its entire flat end face 14a, but only with its rounded edges 1 4b; the contact pressure between the film 3 and the male mold 10 at these edges 14b resulting from the tension of the film is, moreover, due to the effect of the overpressure generated in the working space 11, significantly lower than if this overpressure were not present.

The film 3 can thus slide over the edges 14b and in its part 3a located in front of the end face 14a (FIG. 3) has approximately the same thickness as in its part 3b located to the side of the protruding male part 14.

The upward movement of the plate 9 is continued until the seat 15 of the patrix 10 meets the film 3 in the opening 2 and rests against it in an airtight manner (FIG. 3). As a result, a space 23, to be designated as a suction space, is separated from the work space 11 along the seat surface 15, which is closed in the circumferential direction. The plate 9 with the male mold 10 then comes to a standstill. The pressure in the suction chamber 23 is initially maintained, while that in the rest of the working chamber 11 drops to the pressure of the outside air as a result of further air flowing out through the opening 18.

Immediately after this moment, the channel 13 and thus the cavity 16 is connected to the above-mentioned vacuum container by opening a valve. The pressure in the cavity 16 then suddenly drops below the pressure of the outside air. This pressure reduction is also communicated to the suction chamber 23 through the many small channels 17. The outside air acting on the side of the still plastic film 3, which is curved upward over the opening 2 and facing away from the male mold 10, then presses the film against the surface of the male mold 10, so that the film assumes the shape of this surface (Fig. 4). .

As soon as the pressure in the suction chamber 23 has become the same as that in the said vacuum tank, it is expediently blocked from the channel 13 and connected to the suction side of the evacuation pump. As a result, the air pressure in the suction space 23 between the film and the male surface can still be reduced significantly, since this suction space has become very small due to the fact that the film is in contact with the male mold. As a result, the film is pressed even more strongly against the male mold by the outside air, which allows the film to convey all the subtleties of the shape of the male mold surface.

The film is then allowed to cool until it solidifies, the channel 13 is blocked off from the evacuation pump and finally it is temporarily connected to the pressure vessel. As a result, the air pressure prevailing in the latter is brought into effect through the cavity 16 and the small channels 17 on the underside of the deformed film, so that it is pressed away from the surface of the male mold. While the plate 9 with the male mold 10 is being lowered into its starting position, the tub-shaped structure created from this by the deformation of the film is removed after the wing nuts 7 are loosened and the frame 4 is folded up.

Compared to known devices, the one described here not only has the advantage that the distribution of the material over the male surface can be influenced, but also that the outside air is prevented from reaching the underside of the film through the side walls 8 of the shaft mentioned, whereby undesired cooling of the latter is avoided.

Structure produced by plastic deformation of a film according to the method according to patent claim I. UNTERANSPRÜCHE 1. SUBCLAIMS 1. The method according to claim I, characterized in that pressure medium is drained from the pressure box during at least part of the feed movement of the male mold. 2. 2. The method according to claim I, characterized in that at the end of the advance movement of the male mold, said suction space is separated from the rest of the pressure box space by placing the male mold on the film along a line closed in the circumferential direction. 3. 3. The method according to claim I, characterized in that only such a high overpressure is brought into effect on the side of the film facing the male mold that the film still partially comes into contact with the male mold. 4. 4. Device according to claim II, characterized in that there is at least one drainage opening in the wall of the pressure box for part of the medium displaced when the male mold is advanced. 5. 5. Device according to dependent claim 4, characterized in that the cross section of the opening is adjustable. 6. 6. Device according to claim II, characterized in that the male mold has a seat surface which is closed in the circumferential direction and which surrounds the part of the male surface through which fluid can be sucked out and which is intended to be attached to the film at the end of the advance movement of the male mold create in order to separate a suction space bounded by this part of the male surface and by the film from the rest of the pressure box space.
