Description

Insulating material based on mica and process for its preparation The main patent relates to an insulating material based on mica, characterized in that it consists of at least one layer of porous mica paper, at least one surface of which is fixed on a porous support using a binder distributed in a continuous manner so that the support and the layer of mica paper retain their adsorbent quality and are capable of being impregnated with a liquid dielectric.

It also relates to a process for preparing this material, characterized in that a binder is applied in places and discontinuously on at least one of the surfaces of said layer of mica paper and of the porous support intended for be applied one against the other and that causes the bonding of said surfaces together by compression so that the binder is distributed in a discontinuous manner between the support and the layer of mica paper.

The present invention relates to an insulating material based on mica, characterized in that it consists of at least one layer of porous mica paper, at least one surface of which is fixed to a porous support by means of a large mesh fabric impregnated with adhesive, so that the layer of mica paper and the backing fixed to each other retain their absorbent quality and are capable of being impregnated by a liquid dielectric.

The present invention also comprises a process for the preparation of this material, characterized in that the large mesh fabric is impregnated with an adhesive resin, that it is then applied to the layer of porous mica paper and that the impregnated fabric is covered with the porous support, the whole being then compressed to ensure good fixation of the layer of mica paper and of the support between them.

For the implementation of this process, one can do it for example in the following way. Three superimposed sheets are passed between the heated rolls of a calender, the lower sheet of which is a sheet of paper or textile, the top sheet a sheet of mica paper and the middle sheet a large mesh fabric, for example of glass fibers, silk, cotton, etc., which has been previously covered with an adhesive, passing it through for example in a resin solution, then removing the solvent in the oven, so that it is in a dry state.

The three sheets are thus glued together by compression and form an insulating material which can then be cut into strips of desired width and length.

The gluing of the three superimposed layers can also be carried out by means of a plate press.
