Description

Reversible device making it possible to obtain either an alternating voltage from a direct current source, or a direct voltage from an alternating current source It is known practice to transform the direct voltage of a battery into alternating voltage. accumulators or batteries by means of a switch or a vibrator. But these devices are expensive and poor performance, especially when you want to collect significant power from a battery of 6 or 12 volts.

The object of the invention is a reversible device making it possible to obtain either an alternating voltage from a direct current source, or a direct voltage from a native alternating current source, characterized in that it comprises two direct current terminals, one of which is connected to a center tap of the primary of a transformer and the other of which is connected to a brush driven by a periodic movement whose frequency is that of the alternating voltage , taps arranged symmetrically on the primary of the transformer on either side of the central tap, the mobile brush, during its movement,

electrically connecting each of these taps arranged symmetrically successively with said other direct current terminal, the whole being arranged so that an alternating voltage is collected at the secondary of the transformer when a constant direct voltage is applied between the direct current terminals, and that a DC voltage is collected between the DC terminals when an AC voltage is applied to the secondary of the transformer.

The curve of the alternating voltage collected has a shape which is all the more regular as the number of voltage stages is greater. To improve this regularity, it suffices to increase the number of primary catches.

An embodiment of the object of the invention will be described below, by way of example, with reference to the appended schematic drawing.

The single figure in the drawing represents the diagram of this embodiment.

The device shown comprises a direct current terminal intended to be connected to one of the poles of a direct current source 101 of constant voltage, for example a six-volt battery, this terminal being connected on the other hand, at the middle tap 102 of the primary 103 of a transformer 104.

The other direct current terminal is intended to be connected to the other pole of the source 101, this terminal being on the other hand connected to a brush 105 rotating on a collector 106 whose successive blades (in the particular case of the drawing , twelve blades numbered 107 to 118) are electrically connected to two series of three taps arranged symmetrically on the primary 103 on either side of the middle tap 102.

In each series, the sockets are placed respectively at the end, in the middle and at the third of the primary half-winding, taking as its origin the middle socket 102. That is 119, 120, 121, 122, 123 and 124 these catches.

Some blades are connected in pairs and sy metrically to the same socket, blades 108 and 112 to socket 119, blades 109 and 111 to socket 120, blades 118 and 114 to socket 122 and blades 117 and 115 to the socket 123. The blades 116 and 110 are connected respectively to the sockets 124 and 121 and the blades 107 and 113 are not connected to the winding.

The brush 105, when it turns for example clockwise from the blade $ 10 to the blade 110, successively applies a voltage of six volts between the middle tap 102 of the primary 103 of the transformer and the taps 119 , 120 and 121 of this primary. The voltage collected at the terminals of the secondary 125 is successively equal to U, 2U and 3U, given the particular position chosen for the taps on the primary winding, U being the voltage generated at the secondary when a voltage of six volts is applied at the primary between the median socket 102 and the extreme socket 119 of the primary winding.

The brush 105 passing on the blades 111 and 112 the voltage collected at the secondary drops to 2U, then U. It is canceled when the brush passes over the blade 113 which is not connected to the transformer, becomes U, 2U and 3U again in changing sign when the brush passes over the blades 114, 115 and 116; it is finally equal to 2U, U and 0, when the broom ends its turn with the blades 117, 118 and 107.

An alternating voltage close to a sinusoidal voltage is therefore obtained at the transformer secondary, if the relative duration of the successive voltage steps is suitably chosen.

Any desired form of alternating voltage can be obtained by suitably adjusting the duration of each voltage step and by properly arranging the taps on the primary winding of the transformer.

The rotating broom moving on a circular collector could be replaced by a broom driven by a rectilinear reciprocating movement and moving on a collector comprising a series of blades placed one beside the other and connected to the connectors of the transformer.

The broom. could even rub directly following a rectilinear reciprocating movement on the taps arranged symmetrically on the primary winding of the transformer, these taps being specially constructed for this purpose.

The same device can also be used as an AC voltage rectifier. The alternating voltage to be rectified is applied to the secondary 125 of the transformer as well. than the brush drive motor which must then be a synchronous motor. The advantage of this device over existing rectifiers is that the DC voltage collected remains substantially equal to its maximum value for almost the entire duration of each period instead of having the form of a rectified AC wave. This is advantageous in the case where it is desired to rapidly charge an accumulator with limited intensity.
