Description

  Atraumatic needle surgical thread holder
The present invention relates to a support for a surgical thread with an atraumatic needle.

The supports usually used for surgical suture threads, fitted with a fixed needle, called atraumatic, are rigid. They have, at their ends, notches through which the thread passes, which prevents it from unwinding untimely. The wire is also held on the support by one or more transverse ligatures. During a surgical operation, when the thread must be unwound quickly, there is a risk of cutting it at the same time as the ligatures or of tangling it when unwinding it. Experience has shown that these two accidents occur often.

The aim of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks.

The support according to the invention is characterized in that it consists of a plate, two opposite edges of which are folded over so as to form two lips which deform elastically when the wire is wound on them.

The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.

Fig. I is a view in elevation of a support on which is wound a thread for surgical sutures, provided with a needle without an eye, called atraumatic, and
fig. 2 is an end view of this support, the thread and the needle not being shown.

The support shown comprises a thin rectangular plate 1, made of plastic, the two long sides of which have a folded edge forming an elastic lip 1a. The wire, designated by 2, is wound transversely on the plate 1, a certain tension is exerted on it during the winding so that it slightly deforms the lips of the plate. These lips being elastic, they in turn exert sufficient tension on the wire to prevent the latter from unwinding untimely.

The plate 1 has a thin rib lb, extending from the back of one of the lips 1a to the edge of the other, in which the end of the needle, designated by 3, is pricked. Thanks to this arrangement, the tip of the needle is protected by the lip against which it is directed, which prevents it from becoming blunt against the wall of the receptacle in which the thread is kept, when this receptacle is made of glass, or that it does not perforates it when it is made of plastic.

Finally, the plate 1 has a V-shaped slot 4 in which the end of the wire is wedged, which is thus retained.

The unwinding of the thread is very simple and fast: all you have to do is grasp the support between the thumb and forefinger of your left hand, the thumb placed for example in the semi-circle formed by needle 3, then pull on the end of the thread with the right hand. The wire unwinds itself, smoothly, and without risk of tangling or catching, the support not showing any protrusion.
