Press for the manufacture of at least one extruded tubular element The present invention relates to a press for the manufacture of at least one extruded tubular element, having at least one lateral protuberance, from a blank, press comprising a frame which supports the lower part of a die intended to receive the blank,
the upper part of said die being movable vertically, means for strongly applying the upper part to the lower part, at least two punches arranged in the continuation of one another, in the joint plane of the lower part, on either side thereof, and means for ensuring the penetration of said punches, one. towards the other, in the matrix.
Usually, the lower part of the die is attached to the press frame, and the punch that sits from one. side of the die is operated by a hydraulic cylinder, while. that the punch which is on the other side of the die is actuated by another hydraulic cylinder.
It results from this provision. conventional that it is necessary to provide means for synchronizing the movements of the punches, so that they move at the same speed until their end of travel in the die, and that they arrive, at the same time, to their final position.
This is already a drawback. In addition, the presence of two hydraulic cylinders leads to an assembly of a certain complexity.
The object of the present invention is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks by means of a press which has only one cylinder. hydraulic for the advancement of the punches.
The press according to the invention is characterized in that the die is carried by a block designed and arranged to slide on the frame of the press, in a direction parallel to the direction of the punches, one of the punches, arranged in 'one side of the die, being integral with the frame, while the other punch, which is on the other side of the die, is mobile,
subjected to the action of pressure means and connected to said sliding block by a speed reducing device designed and arranged in such a way that the speed of movement of said sliding block on the frame of the press and the speed of movement of the movable punch are in a predetermined ratio.
An embodiment of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing. Fig. 1 schematically shows, in rest position, a press comprising a hydraulic cylinder for extruding a T-fitting, the two parts of the die being applied against each other by a second hydraulic cylinder.
Fig. 2 shows the same press in working position.
Fig. 3 shows, on a larger scale, the detail of one of the extrusion pistons, of the fitting.
Fig. 4 schematically shows, in perspective, a variant of the press in which the two parts of the die are pressed against each other by a toggle mechanism actuated by a pneumatic jack, and FIG. 5 is a diagram showing a reduction device with levers connecting the die to the mobile punch.
The press shown schematically in FIG. 1 comprises a base ï which serves as a support for the lower part 2 of a matrix. The upper part 3 of this die is mounted on the movable element of a hydraulic cylinder 4 supported by a gantry 5 integral with the base 1.
Under the action of the jack 4, the upper part 3 can be pressed strongly against the lower part 2 (see fig. 2).
The bed base 1 can move horizontally along rectilinear slides 6. At the height of the parting line of the lower part 2 is a fixed horizontal punch 7 oriented parallel to the direction of the slides 6.
In] 'axis of this punch is another punch 8, capable of sliding along its axis under the action of another hydraulic cylinder 9.
It is assumed that the die 2, 3 is established for the extrusion of T-fittings, of approximately equal end sections, the middle leg being located entirely in the upper part 3 of the die, perpendicular to the joint plane of the two parts, l 'other branch of the connector located, by half in each of the two parts,
in the common axis of the two horizontal punches 7 and 8 of approximately equal section. The manufacture of these fittings is carried out according to a conventional process, which consists in filling a section of tube of suitable dimensions with a material which becomes plastic under the pressures used,
in depositing this section of tube, thus lined, in the indentation of the lower part 2 of the die, in tightening the two parts against each other, then in making a relative approximation of the two punches, so as to forcing the metal of the tube to fill the die cavities and, consequently,
to take the configuration of a T-fitting.
So that the middle branch 10 of the impressions remains constantly equidistant from the ends of the two punches, a mechanism ensures the displacement of the die along the slides 6 at a linear speed which is equal to half the speed of movement of the die. mobile punch 8.
In the embodiment shown, this mechanism comprises a toothed pinion 11, mounted idle on an axis 12 carried by the base 1, and engaged simultaneously with two racks 13 and 14 parallel to the direction of the slides 6, the rack 13 being fixed, while the rack 14 is integral with the mobile punch 8.
Under these conditions, it is clear that, during the movements of the punch 8, there is a point of part 2 of the die which is always at an equal distance from the ends of the two fixed punches 7 and mobile 8.
It suffices, therefore, that the axis of the imprint of the median branch of the connector is directly above this point.
With such an arrangement, there is therefore no need to worry about the synchronization of two punches, each controlled by a hydraulic cylinder, as is usually the case.
In addition, the suppressure of a hydraulic cylinder compared to the conventional arrangement constitutes a simplification of the machine and its installation, that is to say a reduction in its cost price and its operating costs. operation. Low melting point metals or alloys, rubber, glycol can be used as filler for the tubular blank.
Fig. 1 shows the press at rest. To manufacture a fitting, a filled blank is placed in the indentation of the lower part of the die 2, the jack 4 is actuated to lower the upper part 3 and press it firmly against the lower part 2, then , operates the jack 9.
The punch $ approaches the fixed punch 7, driving the die at half speed, and the connection takes the desired configuration (fig. 2). It is then sufficient to actuate the jacks in the opposite direction to move the two punches and the upper part away from the lower part of the die, in order to be able to take out the part which has just been extruded.
Preferably, the end of each punch penetrates a certain amount inside the tubular blank 16 (FIG. 3) and has a shoulder 17 intended to come to bear against the corresponding end of said blank.
Obviously, to increase production, one can provide a die with several parallel cavities and as many pairs of punches.
In fig. 4, there is shown a variant of the press which differs from the press of FIG. 1 in that the hydraulic cylinder for actuating the upper part 3 of the die is replaced by a toggle mechanism actuated by a pneumatic cylinder. This results in a machine that is simpler and faster to operate, which increases production.
In this figure, the same parts have been designated as those of FIGS. 1 and 2, by the same benchmarks. The upper part 3 of the die is carried by a block 22 which can slide on columns 23 playing the role of the gantry 5 of FIG. 1 and connected at their upper end by a plate 24.
The toggle comprises a connecting rod 25 articulated on a pin 26 mounted in the block 22, and two connecting rods 27 articulated on a pin 28 integral with the plate 24. The three connecting rods are further articulated on a common pin 29, connected to the movable element 30 of a pneumatic cylinder, the fixed part 32 of which is articulated on an axis 33 carried by an arm 34 integral with the plate 24.
The operation of this press is the same as that of the press of FIG. 1, with the difference that the movement of the die is controlled by a jack. with compressed air, instead of using an RTI ID = "0002.0219" WI = "8" HE = "4" LX = "1506" LY = "2340"> cylinder. hydraulic. At the same time, as an alternative, there is shown a die with two cavities and, therefore, two pairs of extrusion punches.
Control by compressed air has, over control by hydraulic cylinder, the advantage of being simpler and, consequently, cheaper; in addition, it operates faster and therefore allows higher production. In general, the material which forms the lateral protuberance (s) of the extruded tubular part comes from both parts. repressed of the blank.
When these, two parts are practically of the same diameter, as was the case in the examples given above, and the opposing punches, of consequently approximately equal sections, sink at the same speed into the die, as in the devices which have just been described, the metal arrives in equal quantities, from the two ends of the blank, into the cavity or cavities intended to form the lateral protuberance or protuberances.
These conditions are favorable for good formation of the part.
On the other hand, if the sections of the two ends of the blank are different, the sections of the opposing punches are also different and, if their rates of insertion into the die were equal, they would push back, into the lateral cavity of the die, different amounts of metal. The lateral outgrowth would then have a good chance of forming in a defective fashion and breaking. To avoid this drawback and bring into the lateral cavity equal amounts of metal, the driving speeds of. opposing pistons in the matrix are inversely proportional to their sections.
This result can be obtained, for example, by connecting the mobile punch and the die by a positive device with levers.
This is shown schematically in FIG. 5, on which there are elements of the arrangement of FIG. 1, but in which the connection by rack and toothed pinion has been replaced by a connection by levers, comprising an arm 37 articulated, by one of its ends, on a pin 38 mounted in the frame of the press, and of which the other end is connected to the movable punch 8, by a lug 39, integral with said punch, and which can slide in a longitudinal slot 41 of the arm 37.
The base 1 which carries the die is connected, by a connecting rod 42, to a point 43 of the arm 37, materialized by a bolt which can be blocked at any desired point along the length of a longitudinal slot 44 of the arm 37 .
The strokes of the punches being relatively short, if we disregard the variable relative obliquity of the levers of this mechanism, we see that the ratio of the speeds of the mobile punch and of the die with respect to the frame of the machine is ap approximately equal to the ratio of the lever arms 39-38 and 43-38.
In particular, if the distance 43-38 is half the distance 39-38, the die moves at a speed which is equal to half the speed of the movable punch, as in the pinion embodiment and racks described above.
By moving the bolt 43 along the slot 44 of the arm 37, any desired value can be given to the ratio of the speeds of the die and the movable punch. It will be noted that the speed of displacement of the die on the frame is equal to the relative speed of insertion of the fixed punch into the die.
It is obvious that this linkage by levers is independent of the other characteristics of the machine, and in particular that it is applicable as well. to presses of the type of FIG. 1, that with presses of the type of FIG. 4.
