Machine for digging the ground, in a clay exploitation The basic material used in the manufacture of tiles and bricks consists of clay which is, in general, extracted in open-cast operations. The clay layer is gradually removed, for example by means of a dredge whose buckets scrape part of this layer on a working surface, this surface being inclined and resembling the slope of a bank.
It is very important that the extracted clay contains practically no impurities, such as limestone, sand, topsoil, organic matter, etc.
Until now, the removal of these impurities has always been carried out by workers whose work is arduous and very slow, because they have to move on the working slope which is, in general, very inclined.
The object of the present invention is to facilitate this work, it relates to a machine for digging the soil, in particular for removing impurities, in a clay operation, characterized in that it comprises a mobile work station, this station being provided with a rotary tool for digging the ground and a platform to allow a worker to actuate control means to pTovocate the desired movements of the station.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of a machine which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view thereof in the operating position.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the machine's workstation, parts removed and others cut away.
Fig. 3 is a view on a larger scale of part of the machine shown in FIG. 1.
The machine shown comprises a carriage 1, having wheels 2 allowing it to run on rails 3 running along the upper edge of the slope 4 of the layer of clay to be worked, this slope being formed by the work of a dredge, not shown. .
As can be seen clearly in fig. 3, the carriage 1 carries two winches 5 and 6 and a motor 7. The latter makes it possible to turn the wheels 2 of the carriage by means of a gear train 8 to cause the movements of the machine on the rails 3. The carriage also carries an arm 9 which is articulated on it and which can be rotated by means of a crank 10 acting on a screw 11 articulated at one end to the arm 9.
At the other end of the latter is articulated a boom 12 on which can slide a workstation 13 which is attached to the end of a cable 14 controlled by the winch 5 and passing over a pulley 15 disposed above the arm. 9.
Fig. 2 is an end view of an arrow 12 on which the workstation 13 is fixed. It can be seen that this arrow is formed by two U-shaped metal beams 16 which are connected to one another by crossbars 17.
The workstation comprises a frame 18, which carries rollers 19 engaged inside the profile of the beams 16. This frame carries a platform 20 which is not. shown in fig. 2, but only in fig. 1,
and which is intended for the worker driving the machine. The frame 18 also carries an electric motor 21 which drives in rotation a rotary tool consisting of a milling cutter 22 provided with six interchangeable blades. The transmission between this cutter and the motor is provided by trapezoidal belts 23 enclosed in a casing 24. The cutter 22 is carried by a bearing 33 fixed to the frame of the station 20.
The casing 24 also carries a protection 25, shown in section in FIG. 2, intended to prevent direct projections of earth or pebbles in the direction of the worker who took place on the platform 20. The lower end of each of the two beams 16 forming the boom 12 is respectively attached to the end of one of two cables 26, only one of which is visible in FIG. 1.
These two cables 26 are wound on two drums 27 fixed on a shaft near its ends, this shaft connecting the ends of two beams 28 fixed to the carriage 1 and held in position by means of two cables 29 fixed to the carriage. The latter also carries a counterweight 30 to balance the weight of the boom 12 and of the platform 20. The middle part of said shaft carries a drum 31 on which is wound a cable 32 controlled by the winch 6. It is noted that the diameter of the drum 31 is greater than that of the drums 27 in order to obtain a reduction between the movement of the cable 32 and that of the cables 26.
To operate the machine, the worker has control means, not shown, which are arranged on the platform 20. These control means make it possible to control the operation of the motor 7, the winches 5 and 6 and the motor. 21. It is clear that, by acting on the motor 7, the worker can move the carriage 1 along the rails 3, so that the work station 13 undergoes a corresponding displacement. By acting on the winch 5, the worker can raise and lower the workstation 13 along the boom 12. The combination of these two movements allows him to come and place his workstation at any point on the slope 4. of the clay layer.
The winch 6 makes it possible to modify the inclination of the boom 12 in a vertical plane, thanks to the action of the cables 32 and 26. Finally, by acting on the screw 11 by means of the crank 10, the worker can rotate the arm 9 in order to move the upper end of the boom 12 transversely to the direction of the carriage on its rails 3. These last two movements allow the distance between the station 13 and the clay surface 4 to be adjusted, which wherever the workstation is located.
The worker can come and place his workstation at any point on the surface 4, at a place where it is necessary to remove the impurities contained in the layer of clay, and then bring his workstation closer to the surface to that the cutter 22 digs the ground. The rotational speed of the cutter is high enough so that the removed material is thrown a great distance, behind and down the slope 4, that is to say out of the working range of the dredge.
It will be understood that the machine described makes it possible to extract all the impurities from a clay quarry operated by dredging, because the mobile station makes it possible to reach, with the cutter, all the points of the inclined surface 4 and to remove thus impurities which may, for example, be in the form of horizontal or irregular layers, or else in the form of various zones.
It is understood that many modifications could be made to the machine which has been described and that, in particular, a device could be provided for moving the cutter 22 relative to the work station, so that, in order to cause driving the cutter into the ground, it is not necessary to change the position of the arrow 12.
According to a simplified embodiment, the work station could be provided with small wheels allowing it to rest against the surface 4 of the layer of clay, this station being retained by a cable attached to an elementary trolley capable of resting. move longitudinally along the upper edges of the inclined surface 4. This carriage could be placed either on a rail or on a cable stretched horizontally.
