N-2'-Methyl-5'-methylsulfonyl-benzoyl-l-amino- 7-hydroxy-naphthalin, N-3'-Methylsulfonyl-benzolsulfonyl-l-amino- 7-hydroxy-naphthalin, N-2'-Methyl-5'-methylsulfonyl-benzolsulfonyl- 1-amino-7-hydroxy-naphthalin, N-2'-Chlor-5'-methylsulfonyl-benzolsulfonyl- 1-amino-7-hydroxy-naphthalin, N-3'-Aminosulfonyl-benzoyl-l-amino-7-hydroxy- naphthalin, N-(3' N-Methylaminosulfonyl-benzolsulfonyl)- 1-amino-7-hydroxy-naphthalin,
B. eines reduzierenden Zuckers, not wendig.

Process for the production of chromium-containing monoazo dyes The present invention relates to a process for the production of chromium-containing monoazo dyes.
Complex heavy metal compounds of monoazo dyes have already been described which contain no sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid groups and in which the end component is a 1-acylamino-7-hydroxynaphthalene compound. The dyes are for dyeing. of paints, artificial polymers and similar substances have been proposed. For dyeing wool or other animal fibers from aqueous baths, they are only suitable if they contain certain non-ionic groups which increase the solubility in water.
As such, alkylsulfonic and sulfonic acid amide groups, for example, have been used in complex chromium and cobalt compounds, the same preferably being found in the diazo components.
It has now been found that particularly lightfast chromium-containing dyes are obtained which contain two monoazo dye molecules complexly bound to a chromium atom when chromium-releasing agents are used on dyes of the formula
EMI0001.0024
or on a derivative of such a dye, which in the diazo component has a group which reacts identically in the chromating instead of the oxy group, or on a mixture of two such dyes,
in which formula A denotes a benzene radical connected to the azo group in the ortho position to the hydroxyl group, which contains at least one nonionic, sulfur-free substituent, and B denotes a 1-acylamino-7- which is free of ionic groups and is connected to the azo group in the 8-position represents hydroxy-naphthalene radical,
in which the acyl group is the residue of a carboxylic or sulfonic acid of the benzene series, the dye or, if a mixture of two dyes is assumed, at least one of the two dyes in the acyl group mentioned contains a sulfonyl group.
The new dyes are soluble in water, show very good drawability on wool and materials that behave similarly in terms of dyeing, even from a neutral bath, and dye this material in the sought-after olive, green-gray to blue-gray shades.
The monoazo dyes to be used as starting materials can contain two identical or different 1-acylamino-7-hydroxynaphthalene compounds as azo components. Among these, in particular the 1-benzoyl- and 1-benzenesulfonylamino-7-hydroxynaphthalenes come into question, which in the benzene and naphthalene nuclei may contain non-ionic substituents.
The residue containing sulfonyl groups supports the water solubility and is advantageously of low molecular weight, that is to say if it contains an organic residue, this is preferably a lower alkyl group. Dyes, in which the azo components in the benzoyl or
Benzenesulfonyl radicals contain methylsulfonyl, ethylsulfonyl, chloromethylsulfonyl, isopropylsulfonyl or sulfonic acid, amino, sulfonic acid-N-methyl, N-ethyl, -N-β-hydroxyethyl or -N dimethyl-amino groups.
In general, such dyes are particularly valuable in which these solubility-promoting radicals are in the meta or ortho position to the carbonyl or sulfonyl group and the benzene nuclei are at most simple, nonionic substituents such as halogen atoms, nitro groups and have low molecular weight alkyl or alkoxy groups.
Examples of 1-acylamino-7-hydroxy-naphthalenes containing sulfonyl groups are the following: N-2'- or -3'- or -4'-methylsulfonyl-benzoyl-1-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene, N-2'- or -3'- or -4'-ethylsulfonyl-benzoyl-1-amino-7-hydroxy naphthalene, N-3'-isopropylsulfonyl-benzoyl-1-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene, N-3'-n- Butylsulfonyl-benzoyl-l-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene,
N-2'-methyl-5'-methylsulfonyl-benzoyl-1-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene, N-3'-methylsulfonyl-benzenesulfonyl-1-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene, N-2'-methyl- 5'-methylsulfonyl-benzenesulfonyl- 1-amino-7-hydroxy-naphthalene, N-2'-chloro-5'-methylsulfonyl-benzenesulfonyl-1-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene, N-3'-aminosulfonyl-benzoyl- l-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene, N- (3 'N-methylaminosulfonylbenzenesulfonyl) - 1-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene,
N-3'- or -4 'N-methylaminosulfonyl-benzoyl- 1-amino-7-hydroxy-naphthalene, N- (3'-N-dimethylaminosulfonyl-benzenesulfonyl) - 1-amino-7-hydroxy-naphthalene and N- (2'- or -3'- or -4 .'- N-dimethylaminosulfonylbenzoyl) -1-amino-7-hydroxy-naphthalene. These compounds are obtained z.
B. by condensation of 1-amino-7-hydroxy-naphthalene with those benzoyl or benzenesulfonyl halides which have a sulfonyl group-containing radical in the benzene nucleus. The reaction is advantageously carried out in an organic solvent at elevated temperature and with the addition of acid-binding or catalytic agents, such as.
B. pyrid.in, dimethyl aniline or sodium carbonate executed. Sulfonic acid amido-benzoyl derivatives can also be obtained in the following way: 1-Amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene is treated with benzoic acid sulfonic acid dihalides under such conditions that only the carbonyl chloride group reacts, and the chlorosulfonyl-benzoylamino compound is then reacted with Ammonia, primary or secondary amines implemented.
If necessary, any acyloxy groups formed are to be saponified under mild conditions, for example with the aid of alkali metal carbonates.
Suitable diazo components are ortho-amino-hydroxybenzene compounds which contain at least one nonionic, sulfur-free substituent in the benzene nucleus. Halogen atoms and the nitro group are particularly suitable as substituents. Particularly valuable dyes are obtained with 2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene compounds which contain a halogen atom or a nitro group in the 4-position.
Diazo components which can be used according to the invention are, for. For example: 4-nitro-, 5-nitro- and also 6-nitro-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene, 4,6-dinitro-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene, 4- or 5-chlorine -2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene, 4,6-dichloro-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene and 3,4,6-trichloro-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene, 4-methyl-6 -nitro-2-amino-l-hydroxy-benzene, 4-tert.-amyl-6-nitro-2-amino-l-hydroxy-benzene,
4-methyl- or -chloro-5-nitro-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene, 4-nitro-6-chloro- and 4-chloro-6-nitro-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene, 4 -Cyan-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene, 2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene-4-methyl ketone, 2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene-4-phenyl ketone and 2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene -4-carboxylic acid dimethylamide.
The diazotization of such o-amino-hydroxybenzene compounds is known per se and the coupling with the azo components can also be carried out by customary methods, that is, in an alkaline medium and optionally in the presence of tertiary nitrogen bases which accelerate the coupling reaction, such as pyridine, lutidine, collidine , Triethanolamine, dimethylaniline or dimethylformamide.
The treatment of the monoazo dyes with chromium donating agents can also be carried out in a manner known per se. Both inorganic and organic salts of chromium and complex compounds of this metal can be used as chromium-releasing agents. In the case of salts of hexavalent chromium, the presence of a suitable reducing agent, such as. B. a reducing sugar, not agile. The choice of the chromating agent depends mainly on the conditions under which the metallization is carried out.
In the case of chroming in an alkaline medium, it is advantageous to use the alkali-resistant complex chromium compounds, such as B. the chromium salicylic acid alkali salts. Of course, the selection is also based on economic aspects. The metallization is preferably carried out in an aqueous medium, but if necessary it can also be carried out in an organic or aqueous-organic medium or in the melt of salts of low molecular weight fatty acids.
It is advantageous to chromate in the warmth and in a weakly acidic to alkaline agent, whereby a little more than half a molecule of chromium salt or half an equivalent of a complex Chromver connection is brought to action on a dye molecule. In the dyes of the type (monoazo-Cr-monoazo) obtained, two identical or different monoazo dyes are bonded to the chromium atom.
The former are compounds which have a sulfonyl group-containing radical in each benzene sulfonyl or benzoyl group of the azo component and are accordingly for the most part very readily water-soluble. The dyes of the second type can, by definition, contain substituents in only one of these groups which support the water solubility. The appropriate selection when combining two different monoazo dyes allows the drawability and solubility to be influenced in the desired direction within certain limits.
To produce such mixed chromium complexes you can, for. B. the mixture of both dyes under conditions. As they were previously written to subject the chromation. A preferred way of producing mixed chromium complex dyes is to combine one mole of a diazo component with half a mole each of two different azo components and to chromium the dye mixture. In addition to the method mentioned, it is also possible to
first to subject one of the two monoazo dyes to chromation, whereby the conditions are chosen so that one dye molecule contains one atom of chromium bound and then one mole of this 1: 1 chromium complex is reacted with one mole of the other, metal-free dye. 1 :
Experience has shown that 1-chromium complexes are obtained from the metal-free monoazo dyes in an acidic, aqueous organic agent with an excess of a salt of trivalent chromium, for example chromium acetate, chromium fluoride or chromium formate at an elevated temperature. The reaction of the 1: 1 chromium complex with the metal-free dye is preferably carried out in a neutral to alkaline, aqueous medium at an ordinary or elevated temperature.
This embodiment using the 1: 1 complex is somewhat more complicated, but allows the production of particularly uniform dyes.
The chromium complexes obtainable according to the invention are advantageously used in the form of their alkali salts, for example the lithium, potassium and sodium salts, but also in the form of the ammonium salts, for the purpose of coloring animal fibers from aqueous baths. If necessary, basic salts and anionic wetting and dispersing agents are added to them.
The new dyes dye materials of animal origin, such as wool, silk and leather from weakly alkaline, neutral to weakly acidic baths in olive, green-gray to blue-gray tones. The dyeings are characterized in particular by their excellent light fastness, but also by very good wet fastness properties and by their evenness. The dyes are also suitable for dyeing and printing other materials, such as synthetic fibers made from super polyamides and super polyurethanes. Some of them are also used for coloring natural and artificial paints, e.g. B. those based on nitro or acetyl cellulose are suitable.
One uses mainly dyes with low water solubility.
Unless otherwise noted, the temperatures in the following examples are given in degrees Celsius and the parts are understood to be parts by weight. Parts by weight relate to parts by volume like the kilogram to the liter.

15.4 parts of 4-nitro-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene who concentrated in 100 parts of water and 17 parts. Hydrochloric acid is diazotized with 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite and then neutralized with sodium bicarbonate and at 0-3 in a solution of 35.8 parts of N-2'-methyl-sulfonyl-benzoyl-1-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene, 10 , 5 parts by volume 10n. Sodium hydroxide solution and 15 parts of sodium carbonate are poured into 300 parts of water.
When the dye has formed, it is filtered off and washed out with dilute sodium chloride solution. The moist color paste is heated to 100-105 in 500 parts of formamide with 12 parts of chromium acetate (corresponding to 3.12 parts of chromium) until the original color has disappeared.
Then it is poured into 2000 parts of water, mixed with enough hydrochloric acid that Congo red paper is blued and the precipitated dye is filtered off. After it has been thoroughly washed with water, the dye is stirred in 300 parts of water, made alkaline by adding sodium hydroxide solution, mixed with sodium chloride and filtered off. After drying, the chromium-containing dye presents a dark powder,
which dissolves in hot water and dyes the wool from weakly acidic or neutral bath in green-olive tones with very good fastness properties, in particular very good lightfastness.
Dyes with similar properties are obtained if the N-2'-methylsulfonyl-benzoyl-1-amino-7-hydroxy-naphthalene is replaced by 37.3 parts of N-2'-ethylsulfonyl-benzoyl-1-amino-7-hydroxy- replaces naphthalene.

15.4 parts of 4-nitro-2-amino-l-hydroxy-benzene who are diazotized as indicated in Example 1 and after neutralization with sodium bicarbonate at 0-3 with a solution of 41 parts of N-2'-methyl-5'-methylsulfonyl -benzenesulfonyl- 1-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene, 4.2 parts of sodium hydroxide and 15 parts of sodium carbonate combined in 400 parts of water.
Then another 30 parts of pyridine are added and the mixture is stirred at 0-5 until the dye formation has ended. The precipitated dye is filtered off and washed with 100% sodium chloride solution.
The still moist filter cake is then stirred in 750 parts of water and heated to boiling with 120 parts by volume of a solution of sodium salicylatochromate (corresponding to 2.6 parts of Cr) until the metal complex formation has ended, which is the case after about 6 hours. The dyestuff which has precipitated out is then filtered off, washed with dilute sodium chloride solution and finally with water and dried. The chromium-containing dye thus obtained dyes wool from a weakly acidic bath in green-olive, very lightfast shades.
A dye with similar properties is obtained if 18.9 parts of 6-chloro-4-nitro-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene are used instead of 4-nitro-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene.

16.8 parts of 6-nitro-4-methyl-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene are concentrated in 100 parts of water with 17 parts. Hydrochloric acid dissolved hot and after cooling to 3 with 20 parts by volume of a 5n.
Diazotized sodium nitrite solution. It is then neutralized with sodium bicarbonate and the slurry of the diazo compound is poured into a solution of 37.4 parts of N-4'-sulfonic acid methylamido-benzoyl-1-amino-7-hydroxynaphthalene, 4.2 parts of sodium hydroxide and 15 Parts of sodium carbonate in 250 parts of water.
The mixture is stirred at 5-10 until the dyestuff formation has ended, the dyestuff is precipitated by adding sodium chloride, filtered off and chrome-plated as described in Example 1. In this way, a blue-black powder is obtained, the wool from acetic acid Bath dyes in very light, wash and whale-fast blue-gray tones.

15.4 parts of 4-nitro-2-amino-1-hydroxy-benzene are diazotized according to Example 1, neutralized and converted into a solution of 18.7 parts of N-3'-sulfonic acid methylamido-benzoyl-1-amino-7- hydroxy-naphthalene, 13.3 parts of N-benzoylamino-7-hydroxy-naphthalene, 4.3 parts of sodium hydroxide and 12 parts of sodium carbonate poured into 400 parts of water.
After the dye formation is complete, sodium chloride is added and the mixed monoazo dye is filtered off and washed with dilute sodium chloride solution. The filter material is then stirred in 1000 parts of water, 140 parts of a solution of sodium salicylatochromate (corresponding to 3 parts of Cr) are added and the mixture is heated to the boil for 24 hours. 100 parts of sodium chloride are then added and the mixture is filtered hot.
After drying, the dye presents a greenish-black powder which dyes wool from a weakly acidic or neutral bath in greenish shades of excellent lightfastness and very good millfastness.
The following table contains other similar chromium-containing dyes which can be obtained from the listed components by the methods described in the preceding examples:
