Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 Induction apparatus comprising a coil immersed in oil The present invention. relates to an induction device comprising a winding immersed in oil, which can constitute, for example, a transformer with a power of not less than 100 MVA.

  The induction device forming the subject of the invention, the winding of which comprises turns of at least one conductor, insulated from each other and arranged radially so as to form layers of one dimension axial equal to the width of the conductor, each layer being spaced in the axial direction of the adjacent layers, is characterized in that it comprises radial spacers arranged between all the turns or between groups:

     of turns each of which contains at most two adjacent turns, these members being arranged so as to space these turns or these groups of turns radially from one another and thus to establish axial passages for the circulation of oil through the layers of conductors.

  In large power transformers, the windings can be formed from discs or from a helix. A coil formed of discs is divided into at least two flat disc-shaped sections, usually spaced apart from each other in the axial direction, each comprising a single layer of conductors which are formed by winding into a flat spiral or a single conductor, or several conductors together.

   In a helix winding, on the other hand, a single continuous layer comprising at least two conductors is wound to form a continuous helix, such that the conductors pass in the same relative position from one end to the other. of the propeller, each turn of the propeller comprising one turn of each conductor. Adjacent turns of the helix are spaced apart in the axial direction.

   The use of radial spacers between adjacent turns in all layers allows oil to circulate around the entire conductor over an appreciable fraction of its length, resulting in better heat transfer from the conductor to the conductor. 'oil.

  The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus which is the subject of the invention and a variant.

  Fig. 1 is a radial section of part of a coil in discs which this embodiment comprises. Fig. 2 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 1.

  Fig. 3 is a section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 1. FIG. 4 is a schematic view of this embodiment, partially in section and on a smaller scale.

  Fig. 5 is a section similar to that of FIG. 1 showing the variant.

  The apparatus which will be described is a transformer whose windings are immersed in oil. Its high voltage winding is shown in fig. 1 and consists of a number of sections, each having the width of the flat conductor 15 used for winding; there is shown in FIG. 1 three of these sections indicated at 10, 11 and 12. The conductors of the sections are wound on a cylindrical member 13, the turns closest to the axis being spaced from the surface of this member by axial spacing bands 14 .

   The winding is of the single disc type, that is to say that each section of the winding comprises several turns of the single insulated flat conductor 15,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 arranged radially in a flat spiral to form a layer. The turns of the conductor are kept in alignment and the adjacent sections of the winding are axially spaced from each other by means of U-shaped axial spacers 16, arranged in pairs from place to place along the circumference of the coil. each section.

   The legs 16a of these wedges lie between and separate adjacent sections of the coil, while the bottoms 16b of the wedges separate the middle turns of each section to provide a cooling passage in the middle of the section. Each turn of the conductor 15 in each section of the winding is radially spaced from adjacent turns by means of radial spacers 17 inserted between the turns and between the legs 16a of the U-shaped axial spacers.

   Fig. 3 shows that the radial spacers 17 have notches on their edges so as to be retained in position by fitting with the branches 16a of the axial spacers. The shims of both sets of shims are made of an insulating material, such as compressed laminated paper, having suitable electrical and mechanical strength.

  The arrangement of the winding provides a set of internal conduits in the high voltage winding comprising radial conduits 18 and a series of axial conduits formed by spaces 19 formed between the axial spacing bands 14 on which the winding is. wound, by intermediate conduits 20 limited by the mean turns of the sections and by the ends 16b of the axial spacers 16, by an annular space formed between the outer circumference of the winding and the surrounding tank, and by conduits 21 formed between the individual turns of each section and formed by the spacing of these turns.

   provided by the radial spacers 17.

  The winding shown in fi g. 1-3 constitutes the high voltage winding of a large power transformer shown schematically in fi-. 4. This transformer comprises a core 34 carrying a low voltage helical winding 35 and a high voltage winding 36 formed of discs, as described above. An insulator 37 separates the windings from each other and the winding 35 from the core.

  The whole of the core and the windings is housed inside a tank 30 filled with oil, the oil constituting a part of the insulation of the transformer but having mainly the role of cooling agent. A reservoir located above the tank, not shown, maintains the tank and the coolers full of oil and allows the expansion and contraction of the oil in service.

   When the transformer is in service, the hot oil, starting from the top of the tank, circulates through an external cooler comprising tubes 31 connected by collectors 32, and it returns to the tank at the base thereof, taking thus continuously from the transformer the heat given off in the core and in the windings. Pumps 33 ensure the forced circulation of the oil through the coolers and a device ensuring a forced flow of air or water over the surfaces of the cooler is provided to remove the heat absorbed by the oil.

  As seen in fig. 4, the winding 36 is mounted so that its axis is vertical, so that the flow of the cooling oil from the bottom to the top of the tank is free, the oil passing directly -on the most faces. long conductor 15, over a large proportion of the total length of this conductor.

  The low voltage helical winding 35 of the transformer has substantially the same appearance as the winding shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, but the layers of the conductor which, in fig. 1, form the successive sections, 10, 11 and 12 of the disc winding, represent the successive turns of a helix formed by the continuous winding of the conductor along the member 13. In this arrangement, the conductors 15 of any one of the turns of winding 35 are independent conductors electrically connected in parallel which form a winding suitable for relatively low voltage and high current applications.

  In the variant shown in FIG. 5, the winding comprises a number of disc sections 10, 11, 12 electrically grouped in pairs, each pair constituting a coil. Sections 10 and 11 form the first coil of the winding and section 12 forms part of a second coil. Each coil is formed from two independent flat conductors 40 and 41:

   the two conductors are wound together so that they are arranged alternately across the width of the two sections of the coil and they are connected electrically in series by a return connection 42 running from the end of the conductor 40 of section 11 to the start of the conductor 41 of section 10.

   The electrical path through the coil from a winding terminal 43 thus includes a first spiral path to. the inside through section 10, a first outward spiral path through section 11, return connection 42, a second inward spiral path through section 10, and a second inward spiral path. spiral outward through section 11. A connection 44 is then made to the next section 12, which is wound in the same manner as section 10.

  It can be seen that this winding forms a set of conduits similar to that of FIG. 1, except that the radial spacers 17 are placed only between adjacent pairs of turns: one face of each turn is in direct proximity to one face of one turn of the other conductor of the coil, while that the remaining face is exposed to the circulation of oil which thus ensures adequate cooling.
