Automatic washing machine and method for its operation The invention relates to an automatic washing machine with a stationary outer container, a perforated inner drum rotatable about a lying axis and a timer. The invention also relates to a method for operating this automatic washing machine.
The washing machine according to the invention is characterized in that there are at least two superimposed overflows of unequal size on the outer container, of which the largest in cross-section determines the highest working liquor level, and there are also switching means which cause the fresh water to at least temporarily when the heating is switched on. Inflow valve is open. The method according to the invention is characterized in that during part of the washing phase an amount of fresh water which does not exceed the swallowing capacity of the lowest overflow and an amount of fresh water which exceeds its swallowing capacity is supplied during the rinsing phase.
With two overflows of different sizes installed at different heights on the outer container, it is possible to maintain different levels of liquor during the washing phase without the need for complicated and fault-prone control devices and, in addition, the once loosened dirt is continuously discharged thanks to the flow principle. Further advantages are that the foam formation cannot have a negative influence on the control elements of the machine, as is the case, for example, with float switches, which respond to the foam height instead of the liquid height. In addition, the cleaning process can be accelerated, which is gentle on the laundry.
It is also possible to individually adapt the liquor ratio, that is to say the amount of liquid per dry laundry weight, to the type of laundry and the amount of soiling, with an improved washing effect and a reduced consumption of operating resources.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the washing machine according to the invention is shown schematically in cross section.
The automatic washing machine according to the drawing has a stationary outer container 1 in which an inner drum 2 serving as a laundry container is rotatably mounted about a horizontal axis. The inner drum is provided with holes 3 on its circumference, through which the liquid in the outer container can circulate freely and thereby comes into contact with the laundry loaded into the inner drum. The inner drum is connected by drive elements in the usual way with a motor and can be set in rotation by this. Rinsing can be followed by a spin cycle at increased speed.
The outer container 1 is provided with an open overflow 4, which determines the height of the flushing level and is below the height of the drum axis. There is also a drain pipe 5 which - according to the drawing - can be designed as a suction pipe. This rests against the inner wall of the outer drum 1 and is preferably flat. Its inlet opening 6 is located near the lowest point of the outer container. This drain pipe 5 is lower than the overflow 4 to obtain two different levels of heights. The cross section and thus the absorption capacity of this drainage pipe 5 is smaller than that of the overflow 4 located higher up.
The laundry to be washed is inserted into the inner drum 2 either frontally or through an opening in the jacket. The fresh water supply valve is then opened so that either the water flows directly into the outer drum via a pressure regulator or flows in from a pressureless water container and the laundry is wetted.
Depending on the type of laundry and the amount of soiling, so much fresh water can be fed to the outer container that the level rises below or to the apex height Hw of the drain pipe or to the level of the overflow 4, which determines the maximum work liquor level. If the liquor level rises up to overflow 4, then liquid subsequently flows off via both outlets 4 and 5.
This is particularly important for the rapid rinsing of loose, easily soluble dirt before the start of the washing phase and for diluting the lye when rinsing the laundry. In order to obtain a high concentration of lye with little detergent and to heat the lye with a small amount of heat, you will work with a low lye level and low liquid flow rate during the washing phase.
The detergents can be added manually or automatically. The heating is switched on at the beginning of the washing phase and switched off after reaching a predetermined temperature or after the washing time has elapsed. The switching means are designed in such a way that the fresh water inflow valve is opened at least temporarily during the washing phase with the heating switched on. During the washing process, fresh water can be fed in either continuously or intermittently, with the level Hw being maintained, ie not exceeded, at least during part of the washing phase.
If the drain pipe is designed as a suction pipe, this leads away dirty liquor using the siphon principle as soon as its apex is filled with liq fluid. If the drain pipe 5 discharges liquid during the washing phase, this can be replaced in whole or in part by fresh water supplied.
Before the rinsing phase, an interruption in the fresh water supply of such a length can be switched on that part of the dirty liquor located in the outer drum can flow out via the suction pipe, whereby the liquor level drops. As a result, the temperature of the wash liquor can rise faster with the same heating power than if the liquor level remained the same, which results in a reduction in heat consumption. Furthermore, the reduction in the amount of liquid in the washing machine ensures that the larger impurities that have loosened due to the rising caustic temperature are removed from the outer container at an early stage.
The mechanical and chemical washing and bleaching effect is also increased by reducing the liquor ratio (that is, the ratio of dry laundry weight to liquid). In certain cases it may be useful to switch on a second wash phase with a complete bath change after the first wash phase by draining or centrifuging.
For rinsing, the amount of water supplied per unit of time is selected to be greater than that for washing, so that it exceeds the swallowing capacity of the drain pipe 5. As a result, despite the constant discharge of liquid via the drainage pipe 5, the level continues to rise until the overflow level H \ is reached and the water can now also flow off via the overflow opening 4.
