Description

Milling cutter with removable tools The object of the invention is a milling cutter with removable tools. Cutters are already known in the form of a plate or a crown with attached tools, these generally being constituted by blades on which are welded or fixed in any suitable manner carbide plates,

high speed steel or any other similar material. The object of the invention is to provide a milling cutter, the assembly and disassembly of the tools of which are easy and the fixing ensured so that the tools are maintained in their locations without possible maladjustment despite the considerable forces to which they may be subjected in use and put back in place after dismantling if necessary, in their position of use with the greatest precision and the greatest ease.

The milling cutter, object of the invention, is characterized in that it comprises a crown having equidistant splines distributed over its outer surface, having approximately, in section, the shape of a U, comprising a lateral face with at least one longitudinal groove, the opposite face being slightly inclined with respect to the first, so that a tool support blade, one side flank of which is provided with at least one rib, engaging in the aforementioned groove,

and a juxtaposed conical profile key can be placed in each spline and that a screw tightened in the crown, bearing on said key, causes the latter to move in the spline and consequently the blade locking in his home.

In one embodiment of the cutter, the groove provided in each groove and the rib provided on the side of the blade can be of any section, square, rectangular, triangular or other; their number can also vary and can be chosen as a function of the efforts foreseen for the use of the tool. Each blade can include on its lower face a heel which abuts during the installation in the groove against the transverse surface of the crown, perpendicular to the axis of rotation and thus rigorously positions the tool.

The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the cutter, object of -l'in vention.

Fig. 1 is an exterior elevational view of the crown of said embodiment of the cutter with a single mounted blade.

Fig. 2 is a folding of the same neck, seen above, with a blade positioned in a groove.

Fig. 3 is a partial perspective view of the edge of the crown.

Fig. 4 is a partial section through I-I of FIG. 1.

Fig. 5 shows, in exterior view, - a support blade for any type of tool usable in the crown.

Referring to the figures, the crown -1 com carries a certain number of grooves 2 milled over the entire height of the crown, distributed regularly around the axis of rotation of your part. Each groove has a bottom 3, a side face 4 provided with a groove 5, the profile of which has been shown to be rectangular, but which could be of different section; the opposite side face 6 makes a certain angle with the plane of the first.

The groove therefore has approximately the section of a U, one face of which is slightly inclined with respect to the other. A tool support blade comprises a body of rectangular or square section 8 with, on a sidewall 10, a lateral rib 9; said rib having the same section as the mentioned groove 5. A locking key 7 comprises a face parallel to the face 4 of the groove 2 and an opposite face with the same inclination as that of the face 6.

In the key, a recess 11 or circular countersink is provided on a part of the height which forms a bearing surface for the head 13 of a screw 12 introduced into the crown 1, so that when tightening the head 13 taking bearing on the key ensures its engagement in the groove 2 and causes the sliding of the locking key against the blade, the positioning of which is thus ensured. A heel 14 is provided under each blade 8 which, during installation, abuts against the transverse surface of the crown 15 and allows precise positioning of each blade in each housing.

Naturally, there are as many screws 12 to be provided as there are blades to be fixed in the grooves.

For assembly, each blade provided with its attached plate is introduced into the groove progressively by engaging the lateral rib in the groove until the heel abuts against the transverse surface of the crown; the key is then introduced against the blade and the screw is tightened in the crown; which ensures blocking and assembly. The blade is thus secured against any movement in any direction.

For resharpening, it is possible to disassemble each blade separately; in this case, the sharpening must always be done in relation to the heel of the blade which, for its part, must be precisely machined as well as the shoulder surface of the crown. All the tools can also be resharpened separately, without dismantling, keeping all the blades in their seats.
