Description

Fig. 1 ist eine Ansicht eines Ausführungsbeispiels und

Fig. 3 ist ein Grundriss und

Device for measuring the shrinkage of rectangular samples made of textile material
The present invention relates to a device for measuring the shrinkage of rectangular samples of textile material, in particular of tricot fabrics. In the case of such materials, one seeks to obtain information about the extent of the shrinkage upon wetting in order to be able to assess the usability of the material or the effectiveness of measures to reduce the shrinkage.

The present invention aims to standardize the measuring arrangement and the measuring process in order to reliably obtain comparable results.

It is characterized by a frame, an upper cross bar intended to clamp one edge of the material sample to the frame, a lower cross bar intended to clamp the edge of the material sample parallel to said edge, and at least one loose cross bar attached to the frame in the direction of displacement of the loose one Crossbar running scale, said loose crossbar forming a reading edge which is displaced along the scale during the shrinkage.

In the following, the device according to the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Fig. 1 is a view of an embodiment and
Fig. 2 is a perspective sketch of the lower part of the same example.

Fig. 3 is a plan view and
4 shows a perspective view of a further embodiment of the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2, two different positions of the frame being indicated by dash-dotted lines.

The frame 1 of the device according to FIGS. 1 and 2 consists of two side strips 2 and the transverse strip 3.

Two finger grips 4 are provided for carrying the device around. The upper, for clamping one edge of the rectangular mate, rialprobe 5 intended transverse bar is denoted by 6, and the lower, loose transverse bar, which is intended for clamping the edge of the material sample 5 parallel to said edge, consists of the two strips 7 and 8 together.

Two scales 9 are attached to the side strips 2 by means of the bolts 10 and 11. The scales 9 have two longitudinal slots in which the bolts 10 bnv.

11 so that the scales can be moved lengthways. The shift is carried out by a knurled screw 12, which sits in the bolt 11 and engages with a recess in the slotted bend 13 of the scale.

In the cross bar 3 and in the bar 7 there is a row of pointed pins 19, for which corresponding bores are provided in the cross bar and in the bar 8. A hook 16, which can reach through an opening 17 in the bar 8, is seated in each of the ends of the bar 7. Two resilient levers 15 are anchored in the bar 8 by means of their ends bent at right angles and the bolt 14. These levers can be hung into the hooks 16 reaching through the bar 8, the bar 7 being pressed against the bar 8 as a result of the spring pressure of the lever 15. In exactly the same way, the crossbar 6 can also be pressed against the crossbar 3 of the frame 1; the hooks 16 are fixed in the frame, the levers 15 and the bolts 14 in the crossbeam 6.

To take a measurement, one edge of the rectangular material sample 5 is first clamped between the crossbar 6 and the crossbar 3 on the frame. This is where the opposite, parallel edge becomes. of the material sample is clamped between the strips 7 and 8, the pins 19 piercing the material sample and preventing its edges from slipping. If the frame is now brought into an upright position, the lower loose crossbeam loads the material sample with its weight.

Depending on the measurement specification, additional weights can be attached to the hook 20. The bar 8 partially covers the two scales 9 and forms a reading edge 8a. In this initial position, it is advantageous to move the two scales using the knurled screws so that the reading edge points to a round scale value.

After these preparations, the material sample, for example a tricot, is wetted in the prescribed manner, with the shrinkage of the material to be measured being set. The lower crossbar hanging on the sample 5 is pulled up a little and the reading edge 8a shifts by the amount of the shrinkage along the scales 9. After a while, the shrinkage will stop and the measured value can be read off as the difference to the initially set round scale value. The measurement could of course also be carried out with just one scale 9, but it is possible that with certain materials the shrinkage is not the same over the entire sample width, so that it is advantageous to work with two scales and to use the mean of the two readings as the measured value .

As can be seen from FIG. 2, the sample can also be cut to twice the required width and, in the process, folded over two lateral strips, each one quarter of the width. Depending on the material to be measured, a lateral constriction of the sample, the so-called indentation, will occur simultaneously with the longitudinal shrinkage, as can be seen from FIG. 1. This indentation is likely to be greatest in the middle of the free length of the material sample. In order to also be able to measure this size with the present device, the frame is provided with two scales 21 running perpendicular to the scales 9. They are displaceable in their longitudinal direction on a web 3 a of the frame 1 with the aid of means similar to those of the scales 9.

The distance between the scales 21 and the upper crossbar 6 corresponds to approximately half the free length of the material sample between the two edges to be clamped.

The embodiment according to FIGS. 3 and 4 contains, as the main component, a device identical to the measuring device described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2. In Figs. 3 and 4, therefore, only the frame 1 is indicated by dash-dotted lines. A base 25 serves as a base for the frame 1 when inserting the material sample. It has three elevations 26, 27 and 28, which correspond to the shape of the frame and the bar 7, as can be seen from FIG. If the frame and the bar are inserted correctly, they are fixed in their mutual position. The frame, the bar and the three elevations now form a flat surface on which the material sample rests smoothly, whereupon it is clamped by means of the crossbar 6 and the bar 8.

Carried out in this way with the aid of the base 25, the clamping of different material samples with a constant free length a is guaranteed.

A liquid container, which is secured against lateral displacement by stops 35, can be inserted into a recess in the rear part of the base 25. After the material sample has been inserted in the frame 1, the entire measuring device can be inserted in a vertical position into the container 30 filled with the wetting liquid.

This immersion position can be seen from FIG. 4: The frame 1 is guided through vertical grooves 32 on the inside of the narrow side walls of the container. The front side wall 31 is made of transparent material so that the material sample can be observed through it in the immersed position. A thermometer 34 attached to the inside of the wall 31 is used to monitor the temperature of the wetting bath.

After the material sample has been sufficiently wetted, the frame is lifted out of the guide grooves 32 or from the bath and inserted into the grooves 33. However, these latter grooves do not extend down into the liquid. Inserted into it, the frame stands above the liquid level and protrudes beyond the container, in which the measuring device and the sample can drip off.

The container 30 is only loosely inserted in the base 25 and can thus be easily removed for pouring the liquid over and for cleaning.

Even if the measurement of the shrinkage can easily be carried out with the device according to FIGS. 1 and 2 alone, the design according to FIGS. 3 and 4 ensures the uniform sequence of the measuring process. In any case, with the described devices for different material samples reliably comparable measurement results can be achieved in a convenient way.
