Piston ring and method for its production The invention relates to piston rings and relates to a ring of the type which has a segment ring consisting of at least two overlapping butt-jointing segments and a corrugated flat band spring extending over the entire inner circumference of the segment ring owns which at points that were in the same distance from each other, acts on the segment ring.
In the known designs of this type, the butt joints consist of complicated, mostly multiple interlocking subdivided segment ends, which has the disadvantage that the ends of the segments forming a joint cannot be moved apart without the material cross-section at the joints being inadmissible Way is weakened. In the previously known piston rings with segment rings of the type mentioned at the outset, there is also the disadvantage that a spring is provided for each segment. In all of these versions, each spring is supported at its ends in the ends of the associated segment.
The sole purpose of these springs is to convey a uniform radial contact pressure of the piston ring against the cylinder liner.
The present invention aims on the one hand to remedy the disadvantages of known Stossver circuits and on the other hand to expand the task circle of the spring; it also relates to a method for producing the piston ring.
Accordingly, the piston ring according to the inven tion is characterized in that the butt joints each consist of an overlap which forms a butt joint that is Z-shaped in the circumferential view and extends over the entire radial width of the segment ring and against the joint for radial sealing of the joint a part of the wave-shaped spring or a part pressed by it is pressed against one another. The process for manufacturing the piston ring is that the segments are manufactured by S:
interwerkstoff is placed in a dosed quantity in a compression mold with dimensions adapted to the dimensions of the piston ring segment and subjected to pressure on the outer, inner or shoulder surfaces.
The main thing that is achieved by the invention is that the Z-butt seals are sealed in the axial and radial directions and the segments are ideally pressed against the cylinder wall when the radial contact pressure is properly dosed and uniform in all areas.
In the drawing, exemplary embodiments of the piston ring according to the invention are shown. 1 shows, as a first embodiment, a three-segment piston ring with the spring, in plan, FIG. 2 shows the ring according to FIG. 1 in side elevation, FIG. 3 shows part of the ring in a diagram, FIG. 4 shows the piston ring of a second Execution, in plan view, Fig. 5 in side view,
6 shows a diagrammatic representation of part of the piston ring, FIG. 7 shows a partial view of a third exemplary embodiment, FIG. 8 shows another partial view of the third exemplary embodiment, FIGS. 9 and 10 show the joint of a piston ring according to a fourth embodiment in a diagram representation.
According to the first embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 3, the segment ring of the piston ring consists of three segments 1, 2 and 3 of 120 angular length each, which are provided with mutually overlapping ends 4, 5 extending over their entire radial width (Fig. 2 and 3) and which complement each other to the segment cross-section.
Between the butt seals formed in this way, which have a butt joint that is Z-shaped in the circumferential view and that extends over the entire radial width of the segment ring, there is a recess on the inner surface of each segment 1a, 2a, </ I > 3a arranged, each of which z. B. has a length of about 10-20 mm depending on the diameter of the piston ring. The well-shaped ribbon spring 7 that matches the present embodiment of the piston ring extends over almost the entire inner circumference of the segment ring and has the same or a slightly lower cross-sectional height than the ring segments 1, 2 and 3.
The spring 7 has six bulges 7a offset from one another by 60 degrees, one of which alternately fits into the recesses la, 2a, 3a. As a result, the segments 1, 2 and 3 are pressed in an appropriate manner in their middle against the cylinder wall and at the same time the spring 7 is secured against displacement in the circumferential direction ge. It can of course also more, z. B. twelve contact points of the spring 7 can be provided on the inner surface of the ring, the spring then having a corresponding number of bulges.
The other bulges 7a press against the segments at the joints, so that the ends of the segments are also pressed radially against the cylinder wall at these points. At the same time, the bulges 7a pressed against the joints form a radial seal against the former. The contact length of the spring bulges 7a at the joint corresponds to the strength that the connec tion between the segment ring and the spring must provide in a functional way.
This length is preferably chosen so that for all the different piston ring diameters assigned to a spring, the total length of the spring curvature is the same at the Stossstel len. So that there is always sufficient overlap at the joint, even if the diameter tolerance of the piston ring is one millimeter, the length of the bulge 7a at the joint can be selected accordingly.
The joint play as well as the ring and possible cylinder wear and also - the necessary safety limit for the existence of the overlap in the selected length of the bulge 7a at the joint is also included. The six contact points evenly distributed over the circumference of the piston ring ensure that the segments are pressed evenly against the cylinder liner in conjunction with the mobility of each individual segment.
This practically results in an ideally round strap shape. The contact pressures of the piston rings are easily adapted to the respective conditions by changing the material thickness of the springs 7.
This fact is of particular importance in engines with high compression pressures. The compression springs 7 are precisely matched to the rings; consequently, the corresponding dimension of the spring in terms of diameter and width is used for each piston ring dimension.
The method for producing the ring segments is based on the knowledge that piston ring segments made of sintered metal do not require the complicated so-called mechanical-mechanical shaping and the significant loss of material. The method accordingly consists in placing the sintered material in a metered amount in a corresponding press mold, which is adapted to the segment dimension, and subjecting it to pressure on its outer, inner or shoulder surfaces.
The nominal outer diameter of the mold is expediently equal to the outer diameter of the piston ring segment to be installed, i.e. equal to the diameter of the cylinder in which the piston works; the inside diameter of the mold is advantageously equal to the diameter of the piston groove, increased by the value that corresponds to the necessary space for the pressure spring. The mold is therefore always the negative of a piston ring segment, wel Ches z. B. corresponds to a round segment of a circle.
In the event that a segment is built into a deliberately non-circular cylinder, the circumferential curve of the segment can also be deliberately non-circular and thus the press mold can also have a deliberately non-circular circumferential curve. The height of the compression mold expediently corresponds to the height of the segment; However, the mold can also be chosen higher so that several molds of different heights in the same diameter range are unnecessary. The height of the segment can be brought to the nominal height by simple grinding.
The butt joint ends on the segments can also be included in the mold, so that after the pressing process no further processing of the butt joint is necessary.
According to the second embodiment according to FIGS. 4-6, the segment ring of the piston ring consists of three segments 1, 2 and 3 of 120 angular length each, which overlap each other over their entire radial width, by a step 4a or 5a formed ends 4, 5 are provided (Fig. 5 and 6), which result in a Z-butt joint of the type specified above and complement each other to the segment cross-section.
A sealing ring 6 is inserted as a band insert on the inner surface of the segments 1, 2, 3 and extends approximately over the entire circumference of the segment piston ring. The sealing ring 6 either has the same height as the Seg elements or can be, for example, 0.1-0.2 mm nied riger. The resulting air gap leads to practically no noticeable loss of gas and pressure, since combustion residues, oil carbon, etc. accumulate in it after a short period of operation and have a sealing effect.
The wave-shaped ribbon spring 7 is placed in the segment ring 1, 2, 3 provided with the sealing ring 6 in such a way that it presses the sealing ring 6 against the inner surface of the segments. The flat ribbon spring 7 has a large number of corrugations and accordingly presses with a corresponding number of elevations over the sealing ring 6 onto the segment ring 1, 2, 3.
The ribbon spring 7 has the same or a slightly lower height than the ring segments 1, 2 and 3; it expediently has the same height as the sealing ring 6, which expediently consists of sheet metal strip. The spring band 7 and the sealing ring 6 can be used as separate organs in the segment ring 1, 2, 3; but they can also be connected to a unit in the segment ring. In the latter case, the ribbon spring is fixed at one of its ends to one end of the sealing ring z. B. connected by welding, such.
B. indicated at 8 (Fig. 4).
The sealing ring 6, which is inserted between the piston ring segments 1, 2, 3 and the ribbon spring 7, serves to radially seal the butt joints of the segments 1, 2, 3. The spring 7, which is provided with numerous corrugations, acts via the sealing ring 6 the ring segments 1, 2, 3.
The insertion of the spring 7 takes place independently of any specific positions with respect to the circumference of the piston ring. The spring 7 and the sealing ring 6 can therefore be inserted into the segments as desired, but it must be ensured that the ends of the sealing strip 6 that do not touch each other do not come to rest on a joint of the segment ring. The numerous waves or elevations of the flat ribbon spring 7 over a pressure evenly distributed over the circumference of the Kol benringes, which is particularly important in the case of expired (oval and / or conical) cylinders.
Compared to the known versions of Kol benringen with inlaid wavy ribbon springs, advantages in terms of better efficiency and greater economy are achieved.
According to the representation according to FIGS. 7 and 8, instead of a single ring, the band insert consists of ring pieces 6a, 6b and 6c which are pressed against the segments 1, 2, 3 from the inside by the spring 7 at the three abutment points. These ring pieces 6a, 6b and 6c are so long that they radially cover or seal at least the overlaps 4, 5 of the segments 1, 2 and 3.
The band or ring pieces 6a, 6b and 6c are each connected to the spring 7, for. B. welded, riveted or otherwise attached. According to the representation according to FIG. 7, the ring piece 6c is connected to one end of the spring 7, while the other ring pieces 6a and 6b (FIG. 8) are connected to at least one elevation of the spring 7.
In the example according to FIGS. 9 and 10, 1 and 2 again designate two segments, and 4, 5 the mutually overlapping ends. With 6a a sealing ring piece is again referred to, for the acquisition of which, in contrast to the example discussed above, a recess 1b and 2b is provided in the piston ring segments 1, 2.
The inventive design of piston rings with compression spring as well as by the Ver drive essentially the following advantages are achieved: 1. The butt lock is very simple, whereby the known, in fabrication and functional respect complicated butt locks are avoided ver.
2. The butt seal can completely prevent the gases and oil from passing through in both the axial and radial directions.
3. With the proposed butt joint, the piston ring is weakened to a minimum at its most critical point.
4. By dividing the segment ring in cooperation with the spring which acts evenly over the entire ring circumference, the oval wear of the cylinder liner is reduced to a minimum.
5. With the ring divided into individual pieces, the ring zone of the piston is also used for guidance in the cylinder, since the corrugated ribbon spring located in the groove is supported on the one hand on the groove base and on the other hand on the segment inner surface or an intermediate part.
6. In addition, for the reason mentioned above, there are ratios between the piston, ring and cylinder that affect these parts in better thermal operating conditions.
7. The proposed design offers the possibility of normalizing the piston rings in diameter by the piston rings of 50-130 mm per z. B. can be used in a diameter range of one millimeter.
This shows that you need fewer dimensions for each diameter area in terms of different diameters and heights. The same savings can also be achieved per inch diameter. This results in a reduction in the dimensions of such piston rings, z. B. to a quarter compared to conventional rings. This is of great economic importance, because compared to over 2500 dimensions of the previous rings are z. B. only 600 dimensions needed for the present Kol benring, which enables a large reduction and simplification of storage, which in turn affects the repair trade.
B. In practice, the proposed piston ring construction takes on its full meaning by using piston rings of the type according to the invention in the most effective way for engines with cylinder raceways that have become oval or conical without expensive cylinder grinding or cylinder replacement and without replacing the pistons can be revised. 9.
Compared to the manufacturing process by mechanical shaping, the process according to the present invention differs in that the manufacture of the piston ring segments is based on an economically rational basis in which the manufacture can be carried out in one operation with one device. The efficiency in production is thus fully guaranteed, since the loss of material can also be reduced to a minimum or even avoided entirely.
Due to the better structure and the more homogeneous structure of the sintered material compared to centrifugal casting, a noticeable improvement in the material quality is achieved with this process.
