<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Method for the automatic reversal of the torque of an asynchronous machine with wound rotor whose speed is regulated by means of a static frequency converter, and installation for the implementation of this method The present invention relates to a method for the automatic torque reversal of an asynchronous machine with a wound rotor, the speed of which is regulated by means of a static frequency converter consisting of two static converters.
As we know, the speed of a wound rotor asynchronous machine can be modified by connecting its armature (generally rotor) to an external source of energy (the supply network for example) via a converter. frequency and by varying, in magnitude and sign, the energy exchange between said source and the armature.
When the frequency converter is a static converter consisting of two converters, one rectifier, the other inverter, comprising controlled valves, for example mono or polyanode valves, and when the machine must operate as a brake (generator) as an engine, it is obvious that each of the two converters must be able to operate both as a rectifier and as an inverter. Indeed, when the machine operates as a motor, therefore when the energy transfer is from the armature to the external source, the converter connected to the latter must operate as a rectifier and the converter connected to the source as an inverter.
On the other hand, when the machine operates as a brake, the energy therefore being transmitted from the source to the armature, the converter connected to the latter must operate as an inverter and the converter connected to the source as a rectifier.
As the direction of the direct current flowing between the two converters cannot be reversed in the valves, it is necessary to be able to change the polarity of the direct voltage at the terminals of each of the converters. It is therefore necessary to be able to switch each of the two converters from rectifier to inverter and vice versa.
The object of the invention is to provide a method making it possible to obtain the tilting of the converters and, consequently, the reversal of the torque of the machine and that in an automatic manner without any manual intervention.
The method according to the invention is characterized by the fact that one compares, at each instant, a voltage proportional to the speed of the machine with a reference voltage corresponding to the desired speed, in that the difference of these two voltages , which corresponds to the speed error, is then, on the one hand, used to control the converter connected to said external source and, on the other hand,
compared to a voltage proportional to said reference voltage so as to obtain a voltage proportional to the speed error due only to the external torque acting on the machine shaft, the latter voltage then being used for the reversal of the torque of the machine by causing the two converters to tilt and this so that each change in its polarity from positive to negative causes the converter connected to the rectifier armature to switch to an inverter, the converter connected to the external source tilting from inverter in rectifier,
a change in its polarity from negative to positive causing reverse tilts.
The subject of the invention is also an installation for implementing this method, comprising a static frequency converter consisting of two static converters, one rectifier,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the other inverter, comprising controlled valves and connected, respectively, to the armature of the machine and to an external source of energy, the two converters being connected to each other so as to allow a transfer of energy in the two directions between said source and said armature,
the control electrodes of the valves of each of the converters being connected to a positive voltage pulse generator, itself connected to a control device delivering electrical signals intended to control the phase of said pulses, characterized in that this device control comprises two voltage sources, one delivering a voltage proportional to the speed of the machine, the other delivering a reference voltage corresponding to a desired speed,
a first device comparing these two voltages so as to provide a voltage equal to their difference, a second device comparing this last voltage with a voltage proportional to said reference voltage so as to provide a voltage proportional to the speed error due to the only external torque acting on the machine shaft, a bistable rocking element actuated by -this last voltage and delivering electrical signals intended to control the phase of said positive voltage pulses controlling the valves of the converter connected to the armature,
and an amplifier delivering signals intended to control the phase of the pulses controlling the valves of the converter connected to the external source, as a function, on the one hand, of said difference of the first two voltages and, on the other hand, of said proportional voltage to the speed error due to the external torque alone.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, the electric diagram of an embodiment of the installation for implementing the method according to the invention, as well as some characteristics of its operation.
Fig. 1 is a general diagram of an installation for adjusting the speed of an asynchronous machine and the automatic reversal of its torque.
Figs. 2 to 7 represent some electrical characteristics of the installation.
The asynchronous machine M, which must operate both as a motor and as a brake and whose speed is regulated, is connected, on the one hand, to a supply network A, via its stator and, on the other hand. hand, to a static frequency converter C, through its rotor. This frequency converter C is constituted, in this case, by two static converters CI and CI, each in the form of a two-way bridge, known as the Graetz bridge, comprising controlled valves.
The converter IC which comprises, in this case, six monoanode valves, for example six thyratrons 5 to 10, is connected to the solid rings 1 to 3 of the shaft 4 of the machine and connected to the rotor of the latter. The control gates of thyra- trons 5 to 10 are connected to a generator GI of positive voltage pulses, itself connected to rings 1 to 3. The converter C1 is connected, on the other hand, to the converter CI , also made up of six thyratrons 11 to 16 and connected to network A.
The gates of thyratrons 11 to 16 are connected to a positive voltage pulse generator GII which is connected to the network A. An inductor L, provided to filter the current harmonics, is inserted between the two converters.
The shaft 4 of the machine drives a tachometric dynamo D intended to produce a voltage proportional to the speed of the machine. This voltage is applied to one of the two inputs of a comparator device 17, intended to compare it with a voltage proportional to the desired speed, called the reference voltage, produced by a source not shown.
The output of comparator 17 is connected to one of the inputs of an amplifier 18, on the one hand, and to one of the inputs of a second comparator 19, on the other hand. The second input of this comparator 19 is connected to the output of a voltage divider 20 whose input is connected to the reference voltage source.
The output of comparator 19 is connected, on the one hand, to the second input of amplifier 18 and, on the other hand, to the input of a bistable rocker element, in this case a Schmitt rocker. 21.
The output of amplifier 18 is connected to the input of generator GII, while the output of flip-flop 21 is connected to the input of generator GI.
It should be noted that the generators GI and GII, the comparators 17 and 19, the divider 20 and the latch 21 can be. of any of the known types. In this case, the generators GI and GII are of the saturable choke type, the comparators 17 and 19 with a network of resistors and the divider 20 with a potentiometer.
As is known, the energy which is transmitted between the rotor of the machine M and the network A is equal to the product of the rectified voltage U by the direct current I flowing between the two converters CI and CI ,. When the machine M operates as a motor, the energy is transmitted from the latter to the network, the converter CI then being a rectifier and the converter CI an inverter.
On the other hand, when the machine works as a generator (as a brake), the energy is transmitted from the network to the latter, so that the CI converter must function as an inverter and the CI converter as a rectifier.
If we consider the expression defining the torque of the machine, namely C = KcDI cos (p we see that this depends on the current 1 and on the cos q- ,, the flux being constant for a supply voltage given.
Now, the cos q) depends essentially on the instants of ignition of the valves of the converter CI, therefore on the phase of the pulses controlling the latter and it will be the highest when the latter will function either completely as a rectifier (cos (p N +1), either completely as undu-
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
their (cos (p cv -0.9). It follows that the sign of the torque will depend on the operating mode of the converter CI and its magnitude on the amplitude of the current 1 flowing between the two converters CI and CI, therefore instants of ignition of the CI converter valves ,.
The speed of the machine M is adjusted by means of a control device making it possible to control the speed of the machine at a desired speed, called the reference speed. This is achieved by comparing at each instant, a voltage proportional to the actual speed of the machine with a reference voltage corresponding to the desired speed, the difference between these two voltages being used for adjustment.
This voltage difference which corresponds to the difference between the actual speed of the machine and the desired speed constitutes the speed error. If we denote by s the voltage corresponding to the speed error in the presence of an external torque and by FI the voltage corresponding to the speed error in the absence of external torque (no-load operation), we can write a = ai + es where e., is the voltage corresponding to the speed error due to the external torque alone.
The voltage corresponding to the speed error in the absence of external torque is proportional to the reference speed
EMI3.17
where the voltage R represents the reference speed and G the total gain of the open loop speed control.
The error voltage s2 due to the external torque alone is either positive or negative, depending on whether the machine is operating as a motor or as a generator (brake).
The automatic torque reversal process consists in determining at each instant the sign (the polarity) of the error voltage 62 due to the only external torque acting on the machine shaft, on the one hand, and in the use of this voltage E2 to produce the tilting, from rectifier to inverter and vice versa, of each of the converters CI and CI ,, in order to reverse the torque of the machine, on the other hand. The principle of the detection of this sign is based on the relation
EMI3.29
which follows from the relationships indicated above.
This is obtained by means of the installation shown schematically in FIG. 1 as follows The voltage UD generated by the tachymeter D, which is proportional to the actual speed of the machine, is compared in comparator 17 with the reference voltage R.
The difference a therefore constituting the total speed error is applied to one of the inputs of amplifier 18, on the one hand, and to one of the inputs of comparator 19, on the other hand. To the other input of comparator 19 is applied the voltage FI, therefore the voltage proportional to the reference speed which is obtained by dividing the reference voltage R by 1 -f- G in the divider 20. The subtraction of the voltage el of the voltage 8 gives at the output of the comparator 7 9 the voltage a2 in value and in sign.
This voltage e2 is applied to the input of the Schmitt flip-flop 21, on the one hand, and to the second input of the amplifier 18, on the other hand.
Fig. 2 shows the diagram of the current II as a function of the voltage 82, that is to say of the signal at the output of the flip-flop 21 intended to control the phase of the pulses delivered by the generator GI as a function of the error a2. As can be seen, the current II, at the output of the flip-flop 21, can only have two values, one maximum, the other minimum depending on whether the voltage e2, at the input of the flip-flop 21, is positive or negative.
Consequently, the pulses controlling the gates of thyratrons 5 to 10 of the converter CI will be delivered by the generator GI either with a minimum phase shift (cv 00), or with a maximum phase shift (cv 1800) with respect to the supply voltage of the valves. Fig. 3 shows the firing angle of the cpI valves as a function of the current II.
Fig. 4 shows the diagram of the direct voltage UI at the terminals of the converter CI as a function of the angle (pI. As can be seen, for an angle of 90 -1800, the converter CI works as a rectifier, while for an angle of 00 at 90 it operates as an inverter, it follows that the converter IC will operate either completely as a rectifier or completely as an inverter since the angle cp can only have two values, one maximum, the other minimum.
Fig. 5 shows the diagram of the direct voltage UI at the terminals of the converter CI as a function of the voltage s2 and that for a given speed. The amplitude of the voltage UI depends only on the speed of the machine (it is proportional to the slip), its polarity being that of the voltage a2. It is therefore positive when the machine operates as a motor and negative when the machine operates as a generator (brake).
As for the converter CI ,, the direct voltage UII is a function of the angle III, which is dependent on the current III, that is to say on the signal obtained at the output of the amplifier 18. The current III depends on the times the voltage e and the voltage s2 which are applied to the two inputs of amplifier 18. FIG. 6 shows this dependence.
The amplitude of the current III depends on the voltage s and can have, for each value of the latter, two symmetrical values (one at a time), with respect to the value of the current for which the angle cpII is 900, one for e2 positive, the other for e2 negative.
The same is true of the direct voltage UII at the terminals of the converter. Fig. 7 shows the diagram of the voltage UII as a function
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
voltages e and &,. It can be seen that for each value of the voltage e, the voltage Un can have two symmetrical values, either a positive value when the voltage F. is negative, or a negative value when it is positive.
It should be noted that the amplifier 18 is arranged so that the angle cpIl is proportional to the total error e, when the converter CI, operates as an inverter (e, positive), and that it decreases linearly with the increase of e, when the converter Cil operates as a rectifier (e, negative).
This is a conventional amplifier provided with an additional stage arranged so as to cause the phase inversion of the signals and to allow the superposition of a current of constant amplitude equal to the maximum amplitude of Iii when the CI converter, works as a rectifier. This stage is controlled by the voltage e, and this in such a way that it is off or on circuit depending on whether the voltage e is positive or negative.
As can be seen from the foregoing, the part of the installation described and shown, comprising the dynamo D, the reference voltage source R, the two comparators 17 and 19, the divider 20, the amplifier 18 and the flip-flop 21, constitutes a control device delivering electrical signals intended to control the phase of the pulses delivered by the generators GI and GII and controlling the ignition instants of the valves that the converters CI and CII include.
The signals delivered by this control device depend, on the one hand, on the total speed error and, on the other hand, on the speed error due only to the external torque acting on the machine shaft, in particular of his sign. When this last error is positive the machine operates as a motor, when it is negative the machine operates as a brake (generator). The installation therefore produces an automatic reversal of the direction of the torque of the machine each time the direction of the external torque changes.
The asynchronous machine, the speed of which is adjusted by means of the installation described, can therefore operate both as a brake and as a motor, in both permanent and transient conditions, and that automatically without any manual intervention.
