Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

à 600 C, contenant 500 mg d'or par litre.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 Method for modifying the dynamic properties of mobile time devices The present invention relates to a method for modifying the dynamic properties of mobile time devices, in particular clock balances. This modification can tend either to bring the mobile in question into balance, or to modify its weight so as to allow the precise calibration of a series of mobile of the same type.

  Currently, balances are balanced either by removing material (milling, filing or grinding), or, for screw balances, by changing screws, adding or subtracting one or more washers under certain screws, or even by moving screws.

  The removal of material by milling is a slow, tedious and delicate operation. Despite all the care taken in this operation, it is practically impossible to achieve a perfect balance. The antics, the expansion, the elasticity of the material of which the balance is made, the bending of the balance under the influence of the milling cutter, the minimum chip, all of this makes machining that meets the required precision very difficult. These same reasons prevent an automatic balancing.

  The methods known for screw balances are less and less applicable, modern balances generally being devoid of screws.

  It has also already been proposed to remove material by spark erosion, but this process is slow and expensive. In addition, it locally stains the balance.

  The same difficulties arise when seeking to obtain parts of rigorously equal weight.

  An electrochemical process seems to be a suitable solution. Most balances are coated with a galvanic layer. By locally increasing or decreasing the thickness of this galvanic layer, it is possible to balance a balance with precision; this process also makes it possible to give it a determined weight.

  The method according to the invention is precisely characterized in that material is added or subtracted locally, electrochemically, from the moving body whose dynamic properties are to be modified.

  The appended drawing illustrates, by way of example, one way of implementing the method according to the invention.

  The single figure schematically represents a tank for the treatment of a watch balance. A tank 1 contains an electrolytic bath 2. A balance 3 forming one of the electrodes is partially immersed in the bath 2. The other electrode 4 is immersed in the bath 2. Conductors 5 and 6 respectively connect the balance 3 and 1 'electrode 4 at the terminals of a direct current source. By choosing the connections in an appropriate manner, it is possible to ensure that material is added to the submerged part of the balance 3, which makes it possible to balance the latter quickly and safely.

  For example, a bath can be used. at 600 C, containing 500 mg of gold per liter. The current density may be 0.5 A / dm2 and the treatment time between, for example, 5 and 90 seconds or more, depending on the test conditions and the desired result.

  In general, the amount of material deposited depends on the treatment time, the composition of the bath, the density of the electric current and the temperature of the bath, characteristics which can be easily adjusted with precision.

  The apparatus shown in the drawing can also be used to increase or decrease the total weight of the balance, even while maintaining its balance.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 For this purpose, the balance 3 is partially immersed in the electrolytic bath 2, as shown in the drawing, so that part of its circumference is immersed. The balance 3 is then rotated around its axis and the conductors 5 and 6 are connected to the current source. As a result, the entire rim of the balance 3 receives a galvanic deposit, which increases the weight of the balance. We can also lighten the balance by removing material, by reversing the direction of the current.

   It is therefore easy to modify the weight of the balance so as to obtain the desired value. It is therefore possible to precisely calibrate a series of balances to obtain staggered weights. During the operation which has just been described, it is necessary to avoid immersing the axis of the balance in the bath, because its pivots must not undergo any change in diameter.

  It is also possible to envisage other electrochemical processes, known as currentless or by quenching, in which the amount of material deposited depends solely on the density of the bath and the treatment time.
