<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Method and arrangement for reporting the runtime of protective relays in a supply network to a remote monitoring center In relay protection technology, it has so far essentially been limited to relay protection devices that are often located far away from a monitoring center at any point in the network to report only the facts of the initiation and tripping of the protective devices concerned to the control center.
The transmission of the relay runtimes, which give important information about the type and causes of the errors, was deliberately avoided, as the effort for such a message over long distances was quite considerable and economically not justified so far.
The subject of the present invention is a method which makes it possible to use the simplest means - and therefore also economically - to report the running time of protective relays in a supply network to a remote monitoring center.
According to the invention, it is proposed to generate electrical pulses at the installation site of the relay protection device, the number of which is proportional to the running time of the respective relay to be monitored, and then to store these pulses until they are transmitted to a corresponding receiver in the monitoring center for evaluation purposes will.
In practice, the method can be implemented, for example, by a device, the circuit of which is shown in the drawing.
A contact of the excitation element of the relay protection device is designated by g, which, when it closes, applies the pulse voltage Ui of a pulse generator, not shown in detail, to the actuation winding of the counting magnet ZE via the contact a3. The counting magnet has ten armatures on a common magnetic core, which are attracted one after the other when impulses are impinged and which remain attached due to remanence.
A contact zEl ...... ZElp is assigned to each armature of this counting magnet, which is closed when the armature is actuated. A special mechanical arrangement has the effect that each armature part opens again the contact assigned to the armature part that was previously actuated. In the present case, however, only the contact zEio assigned to the last partial anchor is important.
Via this contact, to which an RC element is connected in parallel, an auxiliary DC voltage is applied via the rectifier G1 to the discharge winding of the counting magnet ZE when it is actuated, which causes all armature elements to drop off again.
At the same time, the auxiliary voltage is applied to the actuating winding of a second counting magnet 4 via this contact and a rectifier G2; As a result, a partial armature of the second counting magnet ZH is attracted with every tenth pulse from the pulse generator.
In the present case it is assumed that the pulse generator delivers ten pulses of a defined duration per second; then - as long as the contact g is closed - a partial armature of the counting magnet ZE is actuated every tenth of a second and a partial armature of the counting magnet ZH is actuated every second.
From the position of the partial armature, it can thus be determined how long the relay protection device has been excited. When the protective device is triggered, contact g is opened because the requirements for the protective device to be triggered are no longer met.
Up to this point in time, the counting magnet device has stored a certain number of pulses that correspond to the activation time. In many cases the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The task is to only report the command time of the protective device. The command time is less than the pickup time of the protective relay by the time the circuit breaker triggers.
In such cases, an opener, not shown, of the auxiliary trip relay of the relay protection device will therefore be connected in series with contact g in the circuit of the pulse generator. The count is then interrupted after the command time has elapsed.
The running time is reported in the device shown in such a way that, for example, a start contact t remotely controlled from the control center applies an interrogation start relay A to the auxiliary voltage. In the present case it is assumed that the start contact t is, for example, the wiping contact of an auxiliary relay. In this case, a self-holding circuit is provided for the query start relay A via the contact a1.
When the relay A is actuated, the counting magnet ZH is now connected to the contact a2 and, at the same time, a relay S is connected to the pulse voltage Ui via the contact a3. This means that with each pulse via the contact s assigned to the relay S, a circuit (not shown) is closed which is coupled to the transmission channel (also not shown) to the control center.
The pulse is generated until the last armature part of the counting magnet ZH responds and its assigned contact zHlo closes. A relay E is then actuated via this contact, in addition to the release winding of the counting magnet ZH, which opens its associated contact e, which is connected to the holding circuit of relay A,
so that the relay A drops out again and the contacts a1 to a3 return to their position as shown.
The number of pulses sent to the control center corresponds in the present case to the number that is required to add a hundred to the number of previously stored pulses.
The pulse transmission time thus represents the complementary time, which supplements the previous running time of the protective relay with the selected pulse sequence to a total of ten seconds.
In the control center, the impulses arriving via the transmission line can, for example, be fed to an ordinary counting relay, which then displays the complementary time so that the required relay running time can be calculated from this. But you can also use a modified counting relay, the basic position of which shows ten seconds and which counts down when the complementary pulses hit. A conversion is not necessary in this case.
It is not absolutely necessary that a continuously operated pulse generator is available at the relay installation location. The pulses can also only be generated when contact g is closed. A particularly simple type of pulse generation consists in switching on a time-delayed relay via contact g, which, in cooperation with another time-delayed relay, is switched on and off in pulses in a manner known from telephone technology until contact g opens again.
The storage device also does not necessarily have to be present at the relay installation location; it can also be arranged in the headquarters. In this case, only the impulses occurring during the pickup or command time are transmitted to the control center and stored there. It is also not absolutely necessary for the storage device to be made up of counting magnets. Instead of the counting magnets, the rotary magnet or stepping units known from telephony can also be used.
The entire arrangement is very simple both on the relay side and especially at the receiving location and does not require any considerable effort. The query ends automatically after the complementary time n has been fulfilled by the relay E. Likewise, the counting magnets Z and ZH also reset themselves immediately after reaching the last stage and are then immediately ready for a new storage time.
The changeover contact a3 not only switches on the transmission relay S at the relay location, but also interrupts the supply line from the excitation contact g at the same time, so that any renewed excitation of the protective relay during the interrogation cannot falsify the interrogation time. On the other hand, this would of course mean that the renewed term of the protection would no longer be saved and could then no longer be recorded.
If you consider the likelihood of a second stimulus to be given and want to accept a little more effort, you can of course also provide another pair of counting magnets that are placed on the pickup contact g during the query time and there for the entire duration of the protection must remain, even if the query of the first suggestion should have ended in the meantime. Such a circuit can easily be obtained with the aid of an additional intermediate relay with self-holding.
Instead of self-holding, one could also provide a slight drop-out delay so that the relay drops out automatically as soon as the impulses coming via contact g fail again.
It would now only be conceivable that a new protection pickup occurs before the values of the previous pickup have been queried by the control center. Such a case would be rather unlikely if the respective accumulated time values were always automatically reported to the control center more or less immediately afterwards.
However, since this should not be possible in every system, the circuit can also be implemented in such a way that the counting magnets ZE and ZH are disconnected from the g-contact until the query is completed. The same arrangement could then also
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
at the same time, according to the previous proposal, switch the g "contact to a second counting magnet arrangement, which saves a possible renewed protection excitation in the meantime.
