Description

Coffee roaster The present invention relates to a coffee roaster with a fan, an air heater and a roasting chamber, in which green coffee is roasted in an ascending, hot air stream.

Known machines of this type are used for roasting fairly large quantities of coffee in industrial applications, with all parts of the system being designed to be stationary. The green coffee is z. B. filled into the roasting chamber from above and left out at the bottom after the roasting process.

However, since the roasting air has to be supplied from below, certain difficulties arise in that the roasted coffee has to be directed into a discharge channel for the same, which discharge channel opens into the roasting chamber at the same point at which the roasting air is also to be supplied.

To circumvent this difficulty, it has also been proposed to blow the coffee upwards after roasting by intensifying the air flow, in which case, however, complications in the fan and reversing devices in the exhaust duct for the roasting air must also be provided.

It is the aim of the invention to create a roasting machine which is very simple in structure and operation and thus comes into question for roasting small quantities of green coffee in the hospitality industry, retail sales and households. The coffee roaster according to the invention is characterized in that the roasting chamber, which is vertical in the operating position, is designed to be tiltable in such a way that it can be charged and emptied through one and the same opening.

There are therefore no reversing flaps on the bottom of the roasting chamber or in the air exhaust duct to allow the roasted coffee to be discharged to the desired location, but it is sufficient to tilt the roasting chamber to let the coffee out at the same point where it was filled has been.

In the drawing, an embodiment of the coffee roaster according to the invention is shown.

Fig. 1 is an overall perspective view of the roaster, and Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal section through the air heater and part of the roasting chamber.

The coffee roaster has a base plate 1 with which it can be attached to a table or furniture. Pillars 2 are mounted on the base plate 1, between which a roasting unit consisting of a fan, an air heater and a roasting chamber is tiltably mounted by means of a U-shaped support 3. This unit is provided at the lower end with a motor 4 and a Ven tilator 5, from which fan the air can be fed to the air heater through a channel 6 of the carrier 3 and a sleeve.7.

A fork 8 engages on the sleeve 7, which fork can be actuated by means of a lever 9 shown in FIG. 1 in order to be able to move the sleeve 7 vertically in a lower inlet opening of the air heater.

The air heater has a cylindrical heating body 10, which can be heated electrically and is kept at a constant temperature during operation by a thermostat, not shown, ge. This heating element 10 is surrounded by a jacket 12 provided with ribs 11. On the jacket 12, a frustoconical part 13 is set, which serves a purpose explained later. Outside the ribs 11, an insulation jacket 14 is attached. Between the outer wall of this insulation jacket and the outer housing wall 15 of the air heater, an annular bypass passage 16 is formed.

In the position of the sleeve 7 shown, the air coming from the fan flows upwards between the ribs 11 and is heated to an average temperature of around 320 ° C. If, on the other hand, the sleeve 7 is raised up to a plate 17, the air can no longer enter the actual air heater, son countries flows through the annular space 16 without substantial heating in the roasting chamber.

In an upper, cylindrical collar 18 of the air heater housing, the cylindrical roasting chamber 19, for. B. made of glass, used and is held in the position is provided by springs 20, which reach through slots of the part 18 and behind a shoulder of the roasting chamber 19 reach. The upper edge 21 of the roasting chamber 19 lies in an inclined plane, in which plane the lower edge 22 of the inlet of an air extraction duct 23 also lies.

If the roasting chamber 19 is tilted up into the vertical operating position shown in FIG. 1, the opening edges 21 and 22 lie close to one another in the aforementioned common plane, so that the ver vertical part 24 of the air extraction duct forms a direct continuation of the roasting chamber 19. At the top of the bend of the air exhaust duct 23 is a nor times closed by the cover 25 loading opening is provided. The cover 25 can be lifted by means of a handle 26.

The air outlet channel 23 opens into a shaft 27 through which the roasting air flows downwards into a channel continued below the base plate 1, which channel transfers the roasting air to a suitable location, e.g. B. leads outdoors. A collecting bag similar to the collecting bag of a vacuum cleaner is suspended in the shaft 27 and can be lifted out of the shaft 27 for emptying by means of a handle (not shown).

For this purpose, the shaft 27 is of course provided with a removable cover (not shown) at the top. This cover can preferably be connected directly to the collection bag.

A switch 28 is provided on the column 2 at the front in FIG. 1, by means of which the heating of the body 10 can be switched on. A desired speed of the motor 4 is set using a potentiometer 29.

At the front end of the base plate 1, two arms 30 are attached, in which a collecting tray 31 is held tiltable and liftable. The shell 31 is provided with a spout 32 and can preferably be divided into individual chambers by longitudinal ribs, not shown, into which chambers the roasted coffee is distributed in small quantities after it has been emptied and is thus cooled quickly and intensively.

The operation and operation of the coffee roaster is very simple. For the time being, the switch 28 is switched on and thus the heating of the body 10 is started. If this body has reached the temperature set by the thermostat, the heating is automatically switched off and a further contact of the thermostat causes a lamp, not shown, to light up. The system is thus ready for operation and an amount of, for example, 250 grams of green coffee can be poured into the roasting chamber 19 after the lid 25 has been opened.

The motor 4 is now switched on by a push button 33, with which the roasting air is driven through the air heater and the roasting chamber 19. Depending on the amount of green coffee poured in and the desired degree of roasting, the speed of the motor 4 is preselected using the Po tentiometer 29 and thus a more or less intense air flow is generated through the air heater and the roasting chamber. In all cases, however, the air flow should be so intense that the coffee beans are carried and swirled by the same.

The frustoconical body 13 causes an expansion of the roasting chamber cross-section from the outlet of the air heater, so that the air speed in the roasting chamber 19 decreases upwards. The speed in the lower roasting chamber part is now always sufficient to carry even the heaviest beans, while the lighter beans in the upper part of the roasting chamber 19 are carried by the less rapidly rising air and heated less intensively.

Since the ribs 11 of the air heater cool down slightly during the roasting process, which takes about 2 minutes, the temperature of the roasting air also gradually drops, which is advantageous for quick roasting. The light skins of the coffee beans jumping off at the roasting and other light impurities are carried through the discharge channel 23 into the shaft 27 and deposited in the aforementioned collecting bag. When the roasting is finished, the sleeve 7 is temporarily raised by means of the lever 9 from the position shown in FIG. 2, whereby the air flow is diverted through the bypass channel 16 in the manner described above.

In this way, cool air is passed through the roasted material and the same is intensively cooled at least at least on the surface, which can prevent the roasted beans from caking after being emptied from the roasting chamber 19.

After this cooling of the roasted coffee, the motor 4 is switched off and if no further roasting is to take place afterwards, the heating has also already been switched off. The roasting unit is now tilted forward with the help of the handles 34 attached to the carrier 3, the roasted coffee flowing through the upper opening 21 of the roasting chamber 19 into the drip tray 31 and being further cooled therein.

If another roasting operation is to be carried out immediately, the roasting unit is returned to the operating position shown, the opening 21 of the roasting chamber automatically resting against the opening 22 of the channel 23 again. If the heating has not been switched off, an additional amount of raw coffee can be poured in and roasted immediately in the manner described. If the previously roasted coffee in the bowl 31 is sufficiently cold, the bowl 31 can be lifted out or, if necessary, simply tilted forward and the roasted coffee filled into a sack through the spout 32.

Although the invention is be written for a coffee roaster, the roasting device could of course also be used for roasting appropriate food, eg. B. of barley or other grain are used.

It would also be conceivable not to tilt the entire unit consisting of the ventilator, air heater and roasting chamber, but only to make the roasting chamber itself tiltable.

In this case, either the roasting chamber openings would have to be designed in such a way that when the roasting chamber is pivoted into the operating position, they automatically connect to the air heater and to the exhaust duct 23, as described in the exemplary embodiment for the exhaust duct has been, or the air supply to the roasting chamber could take place via a flexible line.
