Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>
    Dispositif   automatique d'allumage et    d'extinction   d'un    brûleur   à gaz d'un    chauffe-eau   La présente invention a pour objet un    dispositif   d'allumage, et d'extinction d'un brûleur à gaz d'un    chauffe-eau.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

    Automatic device for igniting and extinguishing a gas burner of a water heater The present invention relates to a device for igniting and extinguishing a gas burner of a water heater.

  This device is characterized in that it comprises a valve for controlling the supply of gas to an ignition pilot, this valve being actuated by the pressure of the water to be heated, this pressure also controlling an electrical device to be heated. spark to ignite the pilot flame and an electric valve to control the flow of combustible gas to the burner, this combustible gas only being conducted to the burner after a thermal deformation device influenced by the pilot has actuated a valve opening of gas to said burner.

  The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device which is the subject of the invention.

  Fig. 1 is a front view, partially in section, of this embodiment.

  Fig. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1 tour of 90o.

  Fig. 3 is a plan view.

  Fig. 4 is a partial plan view of the main burner, and FIG. 5 gives the electrical diagram of the device. The device shown in the drawing. comprises a base body A which has a deformable membrane 1 in the form of a disc held along its peripheral edge by a closure cap 2. The chamber 3 between the membrane and the cap is in communication, by a tube 4, with the hot water outlet pipe, so that when the hot water tap is open, chamber 3 is pressurized.

   The membrane 1 acts on a plate 5 and, via a rod 6, on a grooved piston 7 housed in the bore of a housing 8 formed in the body A and in which it can slide freely. The piston 7 acts on a shutter 9 which constitutes a valve for controlling the gas to the auxiliary and main burner and which rests on a seat 10. The gas is supplied to the connection 11 of an electric valve B which is closed in its position of. rest. Said electric valve comprises a shutter 12 which cuts off the supply of gas to a duct 13, and thereby to a duct 14 of the body A opening out under the shutter 9.

   By closing the circuit of an electromagnet 15, the opening of the shutter 12 is determined. The same result can be obtained manually by means of an operating lever 16 which acts directly on the rod 12 'of the shutter 12.

  The pilot pilot flame escapes from an auxiliary burner 17 in front of which is mounted the active part 18 of an electric spark ignition device C.

  The pilot flame strikes a bimetallic blade 19 which acts in the direction of the arrow X (fig. 1) on a rod 20 Teleeed to a valve 21 against a closing counter spring 22. This valve closes the passage between a chamber 23 located above the shutter 9 and a chamber 24 which communicates with a gas distributor 25 at the main burner D (fig. 4).

  The device is completed by a second bimetallic blade 26 placed in the path of this main burner D and intended to act in the direction of arrow Y on a rod 27 connected to a shutter 28 against a counter spring 30.

   The shutter 28 closes the passage between a chamber 31, connected to the body B upstream from the shutter 12 by means of a duct 33, and a chamber 34 connected by a duct 35 to the auxiliary ignition burner 17.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 The operation of the device is as follows by opening the hot water tap, the membrane 1 is requested by the pressure of the water which determines the lifting, in the direction of the arrow Z, of the assembly 5, 6, 7 , 9 against an opposing spring 36 for closing the shutter 9.

   In the first part of the stroke, the conical part of the piston 6 determines the movement of the control rod of an electric switch 38 which closes the circuit of the electric spark ignition device C, of the magnet 15 of the valve. electric B which opens to allow gas to pass from connection 11 to chamber 14. At the same time, piston 7, which is raised, communicates, thanks to its annular groove 7 ', between a conductor 39 which forms facing chamber 14 and the duct facing auxiliary ignition burner 17.

  The gas leaving the chamber 14 arrives at the pilot light 17 which ignites thanks to the spark produced by the electrical device C.

  At the same time also, the shutter 9 which is open allows the passage of gas to chamber 23 but not to the main burner. This can only be done when the bimetallic strip 19, heated by the flame of the auxiliary burner 17, will have determined the opening of the valve 21.

  At this moment, the gas passes to the main burner D which ignites thanks to the flame of the pilot light 17. Gradually also, the bimetallic strip 26 heats up in contact with the flame of this main burner D; the shutter 28 opens and places the auxiliary burner 17 directly in communication with the chamber located upstream of the shutter 12. The bimetallic blade 26 also acts, thanks to a rod 40, on a switch 41 mounted in the circuit of the electrical device C only to turn it off. The parts being kept in this position, you can take hot water at your convenience.

  When you want to interrupt the hot water supply, you close the corresponding tap and the hydraulic pressure in chamber 3 disappears; the diaphragm lowers and with it the piston 6 and the shutter 9 - thanks to the spring 36 - which cut off the gas supply to the main burner D. The latter goes out while the pilot remains on. owing to the fact that it is supplied with gas from the conduits 33 and 35, this supply being cut off in the conduit 33 by the piston 7 which has resumed its rest position shown in FIG. 1.

   The electrical spark ignition device C remains inactive as long as the circuit operating the switch 38 is open. At the same time, the electric valve B is de-energized and closes the gas supply to the device.

  The pilot flame remains on until the bimetallic strip has cooled; this blade causes the closure of the shutter 28 and at the same time the opening of the electrical circuit of the electrical spark ignition device C acting on a switch 41 (this device C, moreover, being already in its rest position ). It is therefore possible, as long as the bimetallic blade 26 has not cooled down - which lasts a few minutes - to reopen the hot water tap and immediately obtain hot water without this requiring the automatic sequence consisting of by igniting the pilot and opening the valve 21.

  Fig. 5 represents the electrical diagram of the device. In this figure, the members described bear the same reference indices as those of the other figures.

  Thanks to the device described, the automatic ignition and extinction of the burners is carried out by simple operation of the hot water dispensing valve. Safety means are provided in order to avoid accidents due to numerous abnormal operating conditions of the water heater.

  In the particular case of a lack of water, the membrane 1 is not requested to rise; therefore, the gas supply is interrupted and the electric spark ignition device is inactive.

  If there is no gas, the shutter 9 is opened, the electric spark ignition device C is started, and the electric valve B opens. This has no effect, since gas n not happen (otherwise the automatic cycle would continue as described) or that the hot water tap does not close to return the electric spark ignition device C and the electric valve B to their rest position.

     If there is no electric power, the electric spark ignition device does not work and the electric valve remains closed, preventing gas from entering the burner. In such a case, it is possible to act manually, thanks to the lever 16, on the shutter 12 of the electric valve and thereby allow the arrival of gas to the chamber 14.

   By opening the hot water tap, the automatic cycle described above is repeated; it is only necessary to light the pilot flame with a match, as in a regular water heater. Finally, it could happen that the electric current fails when, after having closed the hot water tap, the bimetallic blade 26 is still hot and, therefore, the shutter 28 open and the pilot light lit.

      In this case, if the pilot light 17 has hardly been extinguished by the cooling of the bimetallic strip 26, the hot water tap is opened again, the gas arrives at the main burner D, given that the bimetallic strip 19 is still hot and of this makes the valve 21 open. Said gas will therefore remain unburned, given that the electric spark ignition device does not work. If at this moment the electric current returned, said device would come into operation in an atmosphere saturated with gas and produce an explosion. The presence of the electric

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 pole B avoids this danger when there is an interruption in the electric current and prevents gas from entering the burners.
